This place certainly wasn't what Dan expected to wake up to.
Just this morning, he'd been asleep, comfortable and safe in his own bed. However, once it was time to awaken, he found himself laying in dewy, wet grass. And he was no longer human, come to think of it. It appeared as if...he was a horse. Not like all the horses, heavens no, but a cartoonish, and sort-of adorable...pony.
" What in the name of all that is holy happened?" Dan exclaimed.
Was it true, or was this all a mere and awfully cruel dream?
There was no time to waste. He was going to find the police who worked for this doohickey village, and he was going to find them fast. Even if it took his whole day, Dan was going to figure this out.
" Too bad Chris and Mr. Mumbles aren't around." The grey Pegasus exclaimed.
Wait, a...Pegasus? Dan merely gasped at a reflection in a flower-shop window, jaw agape at what he saw. There, on his back, were two fluffy, and quite feathery, wings. So not only was he a pony, but he was also a Pegasus. A light grey, black-maned Pegasus.
" Wings!? I can't have wings...this is insulting!" He scorned.
Just then, a yellow, and quite nervous filly approached the angry Dan.
" Hello sir, w-what's troubling you...?" She quavered.
Dan's scowl soon turned to one of a light smile. He hated to admit it...but he found the yellow filly, who also happened to be a Pegasus, to be quite beautiful. Her pink mane and tail shimmered against the sunlight, and her wings were fluffy and coarse. She was a gorgeous thing, something Dan refused to admit to himself in entirety.
" I s-seem to have misplaced my whereabouts."
" You're..what?" The filly murmured.
' You know," Dan swallowed thickly. " My hometown?"
The yellow Pegasus gave a light chuckle and nodded. She seemed to understand what he'd meant then.
" I'll take you to my friend Twilight, she's busy, being a Princess and all, but I'm certain she can help you."
Dan nodded happily and followed her through the village. Perhaps it was a town, he thought to himself, or possibly a city? He stuck with 'village', because it seemed accurate enough.
" I'm Dan, what's y-your name?" He asked suddenly.
" I'm Fluttershy," The Pegasus replied. " I've never heard of your name, but it's really nice."
Dan smiled as she complimented his name. She was so quiet, yet so full of joy. At least, he thought so, even if they'd just met one another for the first time.
As they trotted through Ponyville, they passed plenty of stores, bakeries, and other ponies. It was a calm, and welcoming environment, something the grey Pegasus wasn't accustomed to at all. Animals, such as rabbits and ducks walked among the dirt roads as if they were also ponies. It seemed like ponies were the prime species here, but he wasn't quite sure yet.
" It's so relaxing here...and I'm not stressed about it, surprisingly." Dan exclaimed aloud.
" Why would relaxation stress you out?" Fluttershy chuckled. " I love relaxing."
Dan shrugged nervously, " It's just my thing, I suppose."
He didn't dare make a fool of himself, not around these creatures. They appeared to obtain such sophistication, he wanted to be on his best behavior. Unless, of course, he needed to get his revenge, then that would change things for a while.
Soon, the two Pegasi approached a castle. It was crystallized, in the form of a tree, and quite colorful.
" Is this where this 'Twilight' lives?" Dan asked.
" It is," Fluttershy nodded. " We must be quiet, and not make too big of scene. Otherwise, we may worry Twilight and overwhelm her to the point of exhaustion."
With that, they silently made their way inside.
clip-clop,clip-clop
Even the tiniest, ambient sound echoed throughout the castle, but it didn't seem to cause any disturbance. As they mad their way along a gemstone staircase, a loud thud stopped them dead in their tracks.
" Spike? Twilight...?" Fluttershy asked.
No answer echoed back, so Dan and Fluttershy kept trotting toward Twilight's room. As they gained a closer view, the saw a tired Alicorn reading through piles and piles-endless piles-of books. Perhaps that was what made the loud thud, books as heavy as Twilight's were bound to do so.
" Hello, Twilight." The yellow Pegasus said.
" Hello Fluttershy, who's your friend?" The Alicorn asked.
" This is Dan, he is looking for his hometown, but he can't seem to find it. We thought you'd be able to help?"
Dan waved, hoof still shaky from confusion. He hoped dearly that they'd be able to get him home, because if they didn't, it was going to be absolutely terrible. Worst of all, he'd have to get revenge, to teach them a lesson. And he surely didn't want to cause Fluttershy any harm or distress.
" I'll see what I can do," Twilight spoke with determination. " But first, we need to see the others for help."
He didn't know who 'the others' were, but it was worth a shot. Dan had to get home somehow, even if it meant pure torment.
" I bet Pinkie Pie might know him," Fluttershy exclaimed. " She knows just about everypony in Equestria."
" Know me?" Dan asked in confusion. " I've never been to this place in my life!"
" What do you mean? You certainly must've come from some part of Equestria." Twilight protested.
The grey Pegasus shook his head slowly, a patch of anger beginning to boil deep down in his veins. Didn't they understand that Earth was a place?
" I woke up in this...village. I used to be a human, but now I'm a pony it seems."
The purple Alicorn froze, eyes widened in surprise. She'd heard of these 'humans' on multiple occasions prior, but she never knew that they possessed the ability to transport and turn into different creatures. In fact, she never believed them to exist at all.
" You...what?" Twilight asked.
" I used to be a human, I swear! I woke up this morning, and I was here. I have absolutely no clue how this happened, honest." Dan argued.
Twilight scrapped the idea of human knowledge that consisted of such travel. Perhaps this was some sort of test, from Celestia? But why would she give such a test?
" I'm going to find a book on teleportation abilities, perhaps-," She paused, then swallowed. "Perhaps, there's a way to figure out how this all occurred."
