Mother to a killerby BlackJack23ChaptersPrologue: Cries of the moonIntruder in the nightChase, gift, gone Prologue: Cries of the moonThat night, like many nights following Nightmare Moon's banishment, Celestia was at her window looking up into the night sky. It had been many years since Luna had lost her mind and tried to make the night eternal, yet for Celestia the memories still burned deep within, making her question if what she had done was right. Looking up, the moon began to appear from beneath the clowds, letting Celestia wonder which voice she would hear tonight. As all clocks in the kingdom chimed midnight, Celestia waited, waited for the cries, the screams, the threats and the curses to shatter the silence of the night as they did most nights. However apon this night an new sound was heard, not the sobbing apologies of Luna, or the angry ranting of Nightmare Moon, but something soft, small and looking for comfort, it was the unmistakeable cry of a newborn foal. At first Celestia considered it a cruel trick, planned by Nightmare to get her to release her, but as she listen on she heard different, as the newborn cried she could make out the sound of soft cooing. As the foal began to settle and some silence returned so many questions ran through Celestia's mind, how was a foal on the moon, was it Luna's, how'd she get pregnant, and so many more. For hours Celestia just sat there, listening to Luna comfort the newborn in a motherly tone, she sounded so soft and loving, she sounded just like her old self, Celestia wondered if this had done it, if this newborn foal had allowed Luna to gain control, to fight the nightmare within. With a smile on her face Celestia listen closely, hearing the small squeaks of the foal and Luna's comforting tone, however as the newborn began to stir it let out a ear shattering cry, causing even Celestia to flinch, but as bad as that noise was, it was nowhere near as horrifying as the sound that followed. "YOU FILTHY LITTLE VERMIN, HOW DEAR YOU BE NEAR ME, I'LL MAKE IT SO YOU NEVER TOUCH ME AG..." "STOP!!!!!!!" Yelled Celestia, within a flash of light, appearing between the small crying foal and Nightmare Moon, acting a shield from whatever she had planed to do. "WELL, WELL WHAT BRINGS YOU TO THE MOON CEL... CEL..." "Celestia," cried Luna, finally breaking free of Nightmare Moon's control. "It's ok sister," Celestia said with a warm hearted smile. "No, no it's not, you know what I... What I almost did, I can't... I can't stop her, I'm... I'm just a... Just a monster," breathed Luna between sobs, "he... He can't stay here, please take... Take him back with... You." "He?" Celestia puzzled before looking round, there one the ground, still crying, was a deep blue, black maned, alicorn colt. Picking him up with her magic, Celestia brought him close, rocking him gently, allowing him to fall back to sleep. "He's beautiful Luna," said Celestia, wiping away tears, "oh my, I have so many questions," "Please Tia, take him... Take him away, away from me and my... Prison," Luna begged, crying once more, "he deserves... A chance at life, just... Just promis me... Promise me one thing," "Whatever you want, dear sister," Luna began to shake, her breath becoming ragged, Celestia know she was fighting Nightmare Moon's control and it looked like she was losing, "Hide him, hide him... From me, from the... Truth, never tell him... I'm mother... let him... Normal life... No hate... From others... Don't tell... He's my son..." "Very well sister you have my word," at this Celestia placed the foal on her back, lit her horn and began to teleport home, however just before she did she asked her sister one last question, "what's his name?" Luna by this point was gone, Celestia could see she had lost control, however she managed to croke out one last word "Midnight," and with that, she let out an almighty scream, as she became lost in that madness that was now her very soul. Intruder in the nightLuna was sitting at her large wooden desk, currently unrecognisable due to the large stacks of paperwork strung out before her. It had been five years since her return yet, Celestia had wasted no time in offloading her paperwork onto her younger sister, which, although she didn't mine the newfound trust given to her, was becoming a painstaking job. However tonight only one stack of papers interested her, so much so that she had called for her sister to be alerted at once. As Luna skimmed through the report she was holding one more time, she bagan to hear the loud clop of hoofs on the stone floor, just before the large blue doors of Luna's study where flung open. "Ok Luna, what is so important that a guard nearly got riped in half for waking me at this hour," said Celestia, a clear tone of annoyance within her voice. "And a fine night to you too Tia," Luna said with a smile, "oh nothing to serious, only the untimely deaths of nearly twenty ponies," Needless to say Celestia was gobsmacked "what but, how?" "The report goes like this," Luna brought the paper she was holding in front of her and began to read, "apparently a masked figure was seen sneaking in to a Prance fashion show, security was sent to investigate but when they didn't report back, backup arrived and the event organiser informed, when asked to stop the show she refused saying 'she worked too long and hard for it to be ruined now.' "During the event the figure turned out to be a earth pony, appearing on stage he appeared to be wearing some kind of body covering, as his entire body and face was mat black. Apparently his target was that shows special guest, prince Blueblood, and after reliving our cousin of his head, which the attacker kept by the way, he then fought his way out of the event, leaving seven dead due to blood loss, four due to missing limbs, two decapitated and the rest died ether on ther way to or in hospital," As Luna finished she held the report out to Celestia, who quickly took it in her magic, after several minutes shared silence Celestia turned and headed for the door. "Very well Luna, I see your point, I'll just take this and we can start a full investigation," she said only to have the door slam shut hitting her muzzle. "Do not lie to me about this sister, this is not the first time something like this has happened," Luna said with an angry scowl, "and just when where you planning to investigate all these," she said flinging a stack of papers at her with her magic. Looking over them Celestia saw they where all reports of killings all over Equestria, all with one thing in common. "What is going on Celestia, why are you covering these up, what are you trying to hide," Luna said, close to tears at this point, before Celestia gave a defeated sigh and began. "There's reason I'm hiding all this, for you see it is only natural for an aunt to want to help her nephew," Now it was Luna's turn to be gobsmacked "but, what, how?" "Yes Luna the one behind all of this, all these deaths, is your son, Midnight." As midnight sat in his vantage point, hidden deep with a large apple tree, he scanned the small town before him before spotting his target. Ponyville may have been a small town but, that never made him any less cautious whenever her did a job here, and now with the Addition of the new princess and the castle, it only made him even more on edge. Giving one last look out over the sleeping town he checked his target, checked his gear and then set off, leaping out of his hiding place as silent as a shadow, quietly making his way across town. He knew the town layout quite well, he had been here many times before, so he knew the best way to his target, avoiding large light sources and any late night wonders. "But, how did he, how can I, I can't have a son," Luna ranted, clearly distressed by the news, to find out you have a son and that he's a killer must have been eating her up inside. "I had feared you might not remember," said Celestia pulling Luna into a hug, embracing her with her wings as she continued, "it happened many years after your banisment as Nightmare Moon, one night I heard crying coming from the moon and so, after arriving up there to investigate, I found out you had given birth to a beautiful little alicorn colt you had named Midnight. However, you asked me to bring him here to Equestria and hide him from you, possible out of fear of what Nightmare Moon would have done to him had he stayed." "You mean me," said Luna, breaking free of her sister embrace, "don't talk like we where two different ponies, we where one and the same, I know this, I asked you to hide him from me out of fear of what I'd do to... To... My... Son," at this point Luna broke down crying again, allowing Celestia to bring her in close for another hug. Holding her tightly, she lent down and asked her sister, "would you like me to tell you the rest?" Getting only a nod from her in response. In no time Midnight had arrived at his target, standing at the base of the new Ponyville castle he began to scan the outer walls, looking for his way in. Standing just underneath the tallest window of the castle he started digging through his saddle bags quickly reteving his tools, pulling out a grappling hook, some rope and a set of claiming shoes. After putting on the claiming shoes he stepped back and through the grappling hook, having it catch onto a section of the castle roof, leaving the rope to dangle beside the window. After giving the rope a quick strength test he wrapped it round himself and began to clime, using his boot coved hind legs to steady himself on the wall, he bean to pull himself up using the rope. "After I teleported back from the moon, I quickly set to work," explained Celestia, still holding her sobbing sister in her fore legs, "I found a spell that alters the apperience of a pony making them appear as another race, so using that spell I turned Midnight from a alicorn to a earth pony and, just to be safe, I place a very powerful sealing spell on him, locking up his magic as well as the transformation spell. "After that I placed him into the care of a family who where desperate to adopt a foal, I think leaving him on the doorstep was a bad idea but I did what I had to, but I alway kept an eye on him even from afar. Anyway after many years with them Midnight had accepted his life and was quite happy, that was until his adopted family where having a foal of their own and, during a heated argument, his adopted parents told him of how he came into their care. "Shortly after that he disowned them, running away and joining up with the Canterlot royal guards, needless to say I was thrilled, I could keep my nephew close without him finding out who he was, but he was kicked out of guards traning some time later, he constantly fought with others and was not afraid to hurt others. "After several near deaths, many covered up my myself regrettably, he was rejected from the guards, but not before turning his sights, and his sword, on several arrogant new recruits. After killing one and fatally wounding the others he became a criminal, quickly being hunted down by the guards but, at this point, he had already ran leaving no trace behind. "It's was several years, and many search parties later, that I finally got one of these reports, he killed some noble in Saddle Arabia, quickly I sprang to action hoping to find him and bring him back, even if it was to a dungeon, but once again he vanished. After the first fifty years some ponies became worries, a killer who dousent seem to age, so I claimed the next killing on a new killer and laid the old cases to rest. "I repeated this process over and over, claming a new killer was just coping old ones, yet everytime I saw a report, I felt a mix of hope and sorrow, wishing he would get caught so I could help him, but after nearly a thousand years I'd almost given up hoping," Celestia finally finished, drying her eyes as she looked down at Luna who after several last sobs had finally stopped crying. "My son, my son's a killer but why? Why would he?" Luna pleaded, looking like she might cry again. "Over the centuries I began to suspect he might have become a hit-pony," "A what?" "A hit-pony, somepony who get money for killing others, I beleve a term for it you may know is assassin, possibly set up by some of the underground figures of Equestria," "My son, my son, why?" Dangling from his safety line, Midnight gently tapped the window shutters, giving a small creek as they gently fell open, "open as always," he whispered to himself as he silently made his way into the castle. Stepping onto the hard wood floor he gently began to pack away his equipment, putting the climbing boots and grappling hook back into his saddle bags. Leaving his bag by the window he proceeded into the room, with the moon as his only source of light he took off his mask to get a better look, there was his target, he stood beside a large four poster bed were a sleeping lavender alicorn lay. Silently drawing his sword, he held it tight in his teeth, raising it up high causing it to glint in the moon, causing the sleeping mare to stir. Taking her to her chambers, Celestia gave her sister one last hug as they parted for the night. "Get some sleep now Luna, we can start a search for him come morning, in fact, I'll send a message to Twilight asking her and her friends to help with our search," Celestia smiled as she let her sister sink into her room. "I want... I want to help him Tia, I want... I want to be a mother," Luna wheezed exhausted, falling onto her bed, quickly falling into a restless sleep. "I know sister, I know," A loud clang shattered the silence of the room, as Midnight's sword clashed with another, one held in the mouth of the lavender alicorn below him. Jumping back, midnight took up a defensive stance, clenching his jaw around the sword, locking it in place as Twilight lep out of bed, sword raised, heading straight at her attacker. She swung and jabbed her sword at him, hoping to break his defence, but Midnight held his ground, deflecting every blow and countering when she left herself open, however she was quick to recover, leading to only a few minor cuts and bruises. The fight lasted several minutes before, moving swift as the night breeze, Midnight lunged forward catching Twilights sword with his own and forcing it into the ground. Twilight stood there, shock frozen, staring at her attacker, quickly raising his sword, he pointed it at Twilights neck, closing her eyes she waited for what came next. However as she heard the sound of metal clattering agains wood she slowly opened them, only to be met with the eyes of her attacker, after a short moment of just staring, the stalion in front of her moved closer and closer before he pressed his muzzle into hers pulling her into a passionate kiss. After what seemed like a never ending make out session, Twilight finally broke free, smiling as she stared into the stallions vibrant turquoise eyes. "Hello again, my midnight intruder," she giggled playfully. "Hello to you, my lavender target," he replied, smiling at their little pet names for each other. "So," said Twilight hopping up on the bed, "you've been gone a long time, tell me all about it," "Big job I had to pull in Prance," he said taking up his place on the bed next to Twilight, "one target, seventeen collateral, had to take out some big wig at a fashion show, prince Blue... Brain I don't know, never really kept track of royalty, bar you of corse," "Wait do you mean Blueblood, by Celestia, I should tell Rarity, after the way he treated her at the gala, I recon she be thrilled to hear about his untimely demise," she chuckled giddily. "You know something, I never use to like the idea of what I did," planting another kiss on her lips, "until I met you," "Guess I just have a positive way of thinking when I'm with you," "And that's what I love about you." Author's Note Ok well I think that went pretty well but let me know if you think otherwise. Hope y'all enjoy reading about more violent killing later. For now just laugh at my attempts at romance. P.s. Sorry no clop for you who saw the mature tag and got excited (literally). Keeping it semi-clean by gory. Chase, gift, gone Chase, gift, gone As the first flickers of morning sun crept into Twilight's room, she stirred, rolling over, hoping to be met with the warm body of the stallion she had fallen asleep with, however she simply fell into the empty space where he once lay, once again her midnight inturder had vanished, for how long she could not be sure. Sitting up in bed she looked round, his saddle bags where gone, the only evidence of his existence being the scuff marks and sword embedded into the floor, picking up the sword he had given her in her magic, she tucked it under her pillow, only for a small object glinting in the morning sun to catch her eye. Checking her nightstand she found a small gold box resting atop, picking it up and levitating it in front of her she gently opened the lid, inside was a small golden necklace, attached to it was a gold pendant of her cutie mark set in purple amethyst, picking it up in her magic she went to put it on, when she then spotted a small note with a simple message inside. From Prance, with love. Wiping sleep from her eyes she got out of bed, making her way to the mirror, setting eyes on her reflection, she couldn't help but admire the beautiful gift, yet be mortified by the state of her coat and mane, quickly setting to work, she prepped a healing spell for the cuts, all of which where only minor, after all Midnight always told her... "you won't learn to fight till you have the marks to prove it," After a lengthy session in front of the mirror, taking extra time to remove all the nots and dried blood, she set off down the corridor, making her way down to the kitchen. As she got to the kitchen doors, she began to smell the sweet scent of pancake's, heading in she was quickly greeted by the purple dragon standing at the stove. "Morning Twilight, dam you look rough, you sleep ok," "Morning Spike, what, errr, no, I slept fine," said Twilight nervously. "Well, ok then, breakfast is ready," said Spike, gesturing towards a stack of pancake's he had layed out, Twilight sat down and began to eat as spike turned round, "hay what that round your n... BERRRRRRRRP!!!!" Before Spike could finish, he burped out a plume of fire that quickly formed into a scroll, picking it up Twilight began to examin it. "A message from the princess?" asked Spike. "I wonder what she wants at this hour?" Asked Twilight puzzled, opening up the scroll, "let see, dear Twilight Sparkle, an argent matter has arisen that threatens the fate of the ponies of Equestria, we request that you gather the other elements of harmony, we will be arriving at your castle within the hour, signed Celestia and Luna." "So I'm guessing breakfast is off then," "Sorry spike no time, we've got to gather the others, let's split up and get everyone to meet up here," and with that Twilight and Spike set off. Within the hour Twilight and her friends, as well as princess Celestia and Luna, were all gathered in the main hall of Twilights castle, not wanting to waste time, Celestia kept the explanation brief with Princess Luna not saying a word. "So, wait, let me get this mess straight, there's a highly trained, killer pony, that's been running around, killing for years, and y'all only recently found out about him," said Applejack, a confused look on her face. "While I admit it's all sounds a bit strange, I am glad that that stuck up, self centred, royal ponce, Blueblood got some kind of comeuppance, however it might have been a bit extreme," said Rarity, hiding a smile at the news. "Yes, well, you see, until now there was no connection to him and other incidents, however this recent one he was seen committing the offence, when you compare it to other repots it all fits," said Celestia, nervously reciting the pre-prepared response. "Ok, so, what do you want us to do princess?" Twilight asked. "Well, during the incident one of the photographers managed to grab a shot of him," at this, Celestia pulled out the photographs, heading one to everypony, "my plan is to send this picture to every tabloid in Equestria, asking that if anypony see's him to report where and when, if we can track his movement we can make it hard for him to work, eventually forcing him out, of corce this will take some ti..." "It's HIM!!!!" Pinky pie gasped. "What?" Asked everypony, confused. "Well you see, this morning I got up early to collect the morning sugar deliver from the train station, when I see this pony," she holds up the photo smacking it with her hoof, "but I'd never seen him before, and you know when I've never seen a pony before that means there new, and if there new they must not have any friends, and so I was going to throw him a party, but then he told me he wasn't staying and he needed to get to Canterlot. But I asked when he'd be back, when he'd want a party, what type of cake he wanted but he just ignored me, no matter what I did," at this she huffed sitting on the floor. "Wait so that means... Oh thank you pink one thank you, thank you, thank you," said Luna, speaking for the first time, "right so, he's heading for Canterlot, we must send a message to the guards to be ready at the station, if Pinkys right the train he's on must still be on its way if we hurry we can catch it before it gets there," "Well," said Rainbow Dash, "what are we waiting for, let's go kick some assassin tail," At this, the group left the castle and headed for the chariot that the princesses had brought, all except Twilight, who was rooted to the spot staring at the picture, seeing this Celestia approched her. "Twilight, is something wrong?" She asked. "No, no, nothing at all," Twilight smiled nerviously as she headed for the door, all the while thinking "I must find him," In no time Celestia's gold chariot was flying just above the train. "Ok, here's the plan," said Celestia, "you six will take the back of the train and sweep through to the front, while me, Luna and six of my guards will sweep through from the front, if any of you spot him, don't fight him right out, wait until we are there with you, if you meet us before you see him then we will have to catch him at the station," At this the chariot move closer to the end of the train, ready for Twilight and her friends to jump. "Good luck," Celestia yelled as the six jumped off and entered the train. The six enter through the luggage car and, moving together, began to move through train, taking care to scan all the passengers. As they moved to the next carriage, only a few ponies where on board, but no sign of him, so the group moved on, the next two carriages where more crowded, but still no sign of the pony they where looking for. As they enterd the fifth carriage Twilight could see Celestia's guards, at this she breathed a sigh of relief, all she had to do was search this carriage, prove he's not here and then no one would... "Twilight, I think I see him, there in the corner," said Rainbow pointing to a blue coated, black mane pony sitting in the far corner of the carriage, wearing a black stealth suit. Twilight wanted to call out to him, tell him to run, hide, just get off this train, but she was too late. One of the guards walked through the door into the carriage, scanning the crowd he quickly found his target, all too late. As the guard set eyes on Midnight, Midnight was already out of his seat, sword bearing down on the guard, before he plunged it into the soft flesh of the guards neck. As the first guards body fell to the floor two more entered, swords drawn, ready to fight, but so was he, pulling his sword out of the dead guards neck he dived right at the two, deflecting a blow from one, while catching the other under his armor, slicing his neck, only to whip round and sink his sword into the other guards heart. By now everypony had fled the carriage, leaving nothing but Midnight, three guards and the six friends, with Celestia and Luna trying to calm the fleeing crowd, watching the events unfold. As the last three guards faced down Midnight, the bodies of their friends bleeding out around them, they could only fear what would happen next. As the three rushed him hoping to over power him, he jumped, flipped over their heads, jabbing one in the back, severing his spine as he landed. However as one of the guards span round, he slashed out, reacting Midnight dodged the blade, only for the tip of the sword to tear through his suit, exposing his deep blue coat and blank flanks. Flipping his sword round in his mouth, Midnight stabbed the guard in the side, running the blade up, leaving the guard to drop in pain, clutching his dripping side. The final guard stood still, frozen in fear like a statue, Midnight turned, one look into his hard green eyes and the guards sword dropped, defenceless, as Midnight approached, ready to kill, he could of, if not for a rainbow coloured blur. "I'll take you on," yelled Rainbow Dash, flying towards Midnight, hoof raised, a sword ready to meet her, until... "STOP!!!!!!!" Twilight yelled, teleporting between the two, leaving everypony to stair, wide eyed, as Twilight defended the killer in front of them. Finally Celestia and Luna where there, starring along with everypony. "Twilight, what... why?" Celestia asked, shocked by what she was seeing. "Princess... I..." Twilight started, only to be interrupted by a tap on her shoulder. "Twilight, did you open that pendant?" Asked Midnight, smiling. Looking down, Twilight saw she was still wearing the necklace he had left her, holding it in front of her, she saw a small clasp on the side, opening it up she saw inside was a small inscription, two simple words. "Marry Me" Gazing into his eyes, she pulled him close, and whisper her response..."Yes" "Do I know how to propose or what," Author's Note Done ok... Comment if you like it, or not Next one soon Enjoy

"You mean me," said Luna, breaking free of her sister embrace, "don't talk like we where two different ponies, we where one and the same, I know this, I asked you to hide him from me out of fear of what I'd do to... To...
