A mysterious gemstone like egg has been handed down from Equestria's finest mage of one age to the next. It has been passed between many worthy hooves, each chosen by Celestia to ensure the egg's survival as a part of a promise to one of Equestria's forgotten heroes. When the egg begins to show signs of life on the hundredth anniversary of Twilight's ascension Celestia gives it to Twilight. With the gleeful help of Rainbow Dash Twilight must provide a loving home for the creature which hatches from the egg, and the pony whom it chooses as a host as the two just might be Equestria's only hope for the future.

(This story was inspired by Mente Materia and is my own take on an "Equestrian X-Com". If you have not played X-Com don't worry knowledge of the games will not effect this story. In fact not knowing anything about X-Com will add to the mystery and might offer a better reading experience. All you need to know is that this story is Science Fantasy, and has psionic aliens.)
