Prologue
[TWILIGHT]
When Twilight Sparkle rose from her slumber it was a gloomy March morning. Slowly, she climbed out of bed, and went downstairs to find herself something to eat. While she was eating her new found breakfast, quiet hoof-steps were heard approaching, along with a slight knock on her door. She rose to open it, and when she did…
All she could remember were the dark figures.
[SPIKE]
Unaware of the commotion, Spike woke up and climbed out of his basket. Just as Twilight, earlier that morning, he went downstairs to find himself some breakfast. As he descended the stairs, he realized something.
“Where’s Twilight?!?” He thought to himself. He decided that she must have been out with her friends. After around an hour of cleaning and cooking, as well as a very filling breakfast, he decided to go look for her. Leaving his home, he decided to stop by Sweet Apple Acres and see if Applejack had seen her.
“Well hey there, Spike! Watcha doin’ down here at the farm?” Applejack questioned. Spike rarely came to the farm, and if he did, it was only because Twilight was with him.
“Have you seen Twilight outside anywhere today?” Spike said, with a very worried look in his eyes. “I’m afraid something might have happened to her.”
Applejack got a puzzled look on her face, almost as if she was questioning Spike’s very sanity and existence.
“I haven’t seen her today, Spike. Usually she comes down at least to say hi to me.” She began to realize that something may be very wrong. “I really hope you find her though!” Applejack got a grin on her face, and asked Spike if he’d like to come apple-bucking with her.
“No thanks, AJ. I’m going to go find out if anyone else has seen Twilight today.” Spike rushed out of the farm to talk to the other ponies.
Spike inquired with all of Twilight’s closest friends, and none of them had seen her. He began to understand that it was almost as if she had disappeared off the face of the planet. He rushed home as fast as he could once he got the news that she wasn’t seen by ANYONE outside of their home that day. He checked the bathroom, in case she had fallen asleep, and he also checked the storage basement. To his surprise, she was nowhere to be found.
[TWILIGHT]
Twilight awoke with a headache, only to realize that she had been captured and forced into a cage. She attempted using her horn to bend the metal bars of her prison, but seeing as her mind was clouded by her headache, she was unable to do so. She wasn’t capable of doing much of anything except for lying there. She heard a menacing laughter envelope her darkened environment, and a slight click as a key unlocked the cage. Using all of her remaining strength, she pulled herself into the farthest corner of the cage. Unfortunately, it was much too dark for anything, and she could not make out the face of her captor. The voice that began speaking to her was very familiar.
“Good morning, my faithful student. How was your rest?” Twilight's face went blank as she backed even further into the corner, knowing that she had no means of escape.
[SPIKE]
Spike is overcome with emotion, and flings himself onto Twilight's bed, clutching her pillow and sobbing into it. After about 2 hours he decides once again to try and find her. Earlier, he had all of her friend agree that Spike would find a way to repay her for all of the times she had helped him. He ran downstairs to find a scroll of parchment, a feather, and an ink well. He began to scratch a note to the Princess, telling her the problem. Spike got a reply to his letter fairly quickly.
“I am terribly sorry Spike, but I am unable to help. If you wish, you may come and visit with me at the castle.
Truly yours,
Princess Celestia”
Spike set down the scroll he had been reading with haste, and rushed to pack as many things as he could.
[TWILIGHT]
Twilight paced around the cell for several minutes, trying to understand what was happening. The Princess had kidnapped her, and was holding her captive? “This is NOT something the Princess would do!” Twilight thought to herself. She sat down, her mind still ablaze with questions, and continued to think.
[SPIKE]
Spike had just gotten off of the train, and walked to the castle. He was greeted warmly by the princess, and she showed him the room he would be staying in. He began to walk towards his new place of rest until Celestia stopped him. She told him the changelings were planning another attack.
[TWILIGHT]
Twilight had heard a noise, and just then a bright light hit her square in the face, causing her to lose her balance, and stumble into a sitting position. A door to the hallway opened, and Celestia walked into the room. As she stepped toward the cage, Twilight noticed Spike strolling by, towards his room. She began to jump for joy, and even let out a small, nearly inaudible squeak of joy. Celestia lowered her head, coming face to face with Twilight. She then began to speak to her.
“I’m very sorry Twilight. I knew you wouldn’t come on your own, but I needed to have you here.”
“Why do you need ME?!” Twilight said, with a slight weakness in her voice. Celestia began explaining that the changelings had been planning an attack, then said that she needed Spike to command an army, and for Twilight to use magic to help the fallen ponies.
Twilight rested, and thought “I have a lot of catching up to do.” Slowly, she drifted off to sleep, and for a few moments, she felt at peace.
