What Do (Comment Driven Story)
Chapter 1: What Do?
Load Full StoryNext ChapterYou're a human. You've lived here in Equestria, or, more specifically, by yourself in a house just outside of a town called Ponyville, for just less than a year. You're used to the place. There are a few other humans in the whole region - 100 to be exact, but the number has begun rising slowly. The genders are split around evenly, and they live all across Equestria. Canterlot, Manehattan and Detrot are the most highly populated places for humans. There are a few other places though, mostly just towns like Ponyville. Oh yeah - the amount of horse puns. The overwhelming majority of Equestria is inhabited by colourful talking ponies, three races of them. Earth ponies, with no discernable features as far as you can tell, Pegasi, who possess wings and can fly, and Unicorns, who can perform magic. Yeah.
Anyway, your house is a little ways out of the town of Ponyville. As far as you know, there are only 2 other humans in the place. A girl and a guy. It seemed like random people had been "picked" to be "sent to" Equestria, but these two were brother and sister, around the age of 16. You'd talked to them before, they were fairly nice people, but you hadn't seen them around in a while. Anyway, about Ponyville. The proud home of the Elements of Harmony, or something. You'd seen them before, and you were fair aquaintances with them. Twilight Sparkle, the Element of Magic, Rarity, the Element of Generosity, Fluttershy, the Element of Kindness, Pinkie Pie, the Element of Laughter, Rainbow Dash, the Element of Loyalty, and Applejack, the Element of Honesty, yada yada.
This was your, and 99 others', 302nd day in Equestria. You wake up, feeling drowsy and hungry. You feel like having a bacon sandwich. Unfortunately, meat is a rarity and is only got from hunting in the forest known as the Everfree. A few people've been caught by ponies doing this and there's a jail time for killing animals. It's become a bit of a drug-like deal. It's risky to try and get meat. You've only eaten it once of twice since you've been in the land, and you've developed some type of a craving for it. Best to ignore that, though. Time to get some breakfast. Luckily, ponies aren't vegans, just herbivores, so you scramble up some eggs and sit down to eat. As you are eating, you hear a noise in the back of your skull. It sounds like, you wonder, clicks. Like the clicks of a keyboard.
There wasn't really that type of technology in Equestria. There are projectors and things, yeah, but the humans who know a lot about computer engineering are still working on making laptops, or PCs, for that matter. Once you've finished up your eggs, you try to check what this noise could be. You look everywhere in your little hut. In the kitchen, (maybe you'd left your timer on?), in your bedroom, your bathroom, anywhere and everywhere. Nothing seems to be making a noise. You're probably just imagining it. Then again, you'd thought you'd imagined a lot of things around here since you got here. Floating cities, cities on the sides of hills. Hell, even the ponies themselves were a mind bending operation for you. Luckily, they were nice, though. After they realised we weren't gonna hurt them (although I have to say, a few humans weren't exactly nice to them), they accepted us and found out we had the same sort of intelligence as them, starting to help up build shelters and introducing us to their currency, their jobs, and so on.
You weren't much of one for the interaction, though. You got your house set up in the quietest town you could find, and went as far away from it as you could without being so far away you couldn't get anything from there. You sought out somepony to make clothes for you, who was Rarity. She made you clothes, in a very good way, since you weren't anything like she'd ever made clothes for before. But that was beside the point. She was the one who introduced you to her friends. "The Elements of Harmony". Apparently they were some form of heroes and had saved the land at least once. They were nice enough, but once again, the interaction side of it wasn't incredibly appealing to you. I mean, at least you didn't want to kill the ponies, but sometimes they could be a bit obnoxious. You hear a flap of wings.
Flap, flap. Knock, knock, knock.
Must be the mailpony. You usually didn't get mail, but every now and then it wasn't unwelcome. You open the door. A cross-eyed, grey pony with a blonde-yellow mane stood at your doorstep, holding a letter in her teeth.
"Hey, Derps." You'd taken to calling the pony named Derpy 'Derps', as you knew her fairly well. You took the letter from her mouth, and she smiled and replied.
"Hey! Nice day, huh?" Yeah. It was a nice day, actually. It had just turned summer again, and the warm air blew in on your face, the sun's rays beating down on your chest.
"Yeah, it is pretty nice. Thanks for the letter, Derps!"
"No problem, see ya!"
And with that, the pegasus flew back off on her way to finish delivering her letters. You are about to close the door, but it might be a good idea to go into town today, or just walk around a bit. You flick the letter off to your dining table, ignoring it for the time being, and walk outside, picking up your keys on the way. You close the door and lock it. Suddenly, the clicking in your head gets louder as you feel your senses numbed slightly. You stop mid-step, and stand there. All of the thoughts of what you wanted to do clear from your mind, and you're left thinking only one thing.
What do I do?
What do you do?
