The After School Hangout

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

It was 2:30. The exact time that Rainbow Dash had been waiting for. She sped off on her bike towards the 1 bedroom, 1bathroom bungalow that was called home. She knew her dad was still at work, busy trying to support the two of them himself. When she spotted the familiar faded rainbow garage, Dash smiled.

‘Dad’s gonna be so happy tonight!’ she thought. After throwing her bike on the ground, she ran for the old storage closet in the basement. She rummaged around for a while, then triumphantly picked out 2 badminton rackets and some birdies. Rainbow zipped the birdies in a Ziploc and tossed them and the rackets into a gym bag.

Grinning, she checked the time, ‘Huh. Four minutes till 3. It only takes me half an hour to bike to dad’s office. Dad...’ Her grin slowly turned to a flat line on her face. She was really worried about him. Since her mom died in a car accident, it’s like he turned into a ghost. The only time he was really happy was when he was with Dash. That’s why she decided to use the money she earned from her summer job delivering the newspapers to pay for a term of ‘family’ badminton. Though she wasn’t going to tell anyone or they’d think she was mushy.

Rainbow sighed as she turned the TV on. It was broadcasting some dumb story about a girl her age with purple hair and her new clothing line. She changed the channel to one that was showing her favorite show. When the episode finished, she got up and rubbed her eyes. It was time to get going.

As she got off the bus, Fluttershy smiled happily. It was good to be home. She walked up the steps knowing full well her aunt was going to be home for her first day. When she knocked though, the one who answered was, impossibly, her bunny Angel. She gratefully stepped inside wondering where her Aunt Posey could be this time. Angel leapt onto the counter and pointed at a note. It said,

Fluttershy,

My apologies for not being here on your first day of middle school. I simply had to go to the fashion show at that new shop, Carousel Boutique, correct? The girl that runs it is only about your age! Quite talented, I imagine. If you’re not comfortable staying home alone, go to one of your friends (as I’m sure you made many) houses and spend the afternoon there. When you want me to pick you up, just give me a ring.

Love,

Aunt Posey

That wasn’t unusual in their household. Her aunt liked to keep up with all the things going on in Canterlot so Fluttershy was alone often. Usually, she’d be fine herself, but today she wanted some company. That farm-girl Applejack seemed nice enough; maybe she’d head over there for a bit.

Ding dong!

“Ah’ll get it!” yelled Big Mac. He leapt off the couch and ran to the door. When he opened it, it wasn’t who he’d expected it to be. Standing there, in the doorway, was a beautiful girl with long, crimson hair holding a bunny. He blushed, then snapped back to his senses.

“Ah reckon yer lookin’ fer Applejack, eh?” he asked.

“Does she live here?” her voice was practically a squeak. How cute. Big Mac hated himself for thinking that. And he didn’t even know her either!

“Eeyup.”

“Um… Can you get her please? If you don’t mind that is…”

“Eeyup.” he replied, then hollered, “APPLEJACK! A FRIEND’S HERE FER YA!”

Applejack, hearing her brother’s call, ran over to the front of the barn, dropping all her tools in her haste. She never had many friends, being so busy with her chores and all. While most other girls would just think their brothers were pranking them, she knew Big Mac was telling the truth. Honesty, in her family, was what made a person a person.

“Oh hey there Fluttershy, Ah think it was...” AJ greeted her.

Fluttershy merely nodded.

“Come on in!” Applejack beckoned her in the barn, “Granny Smith’s got one o’ her famous pies a cookin’!”

Rarity pursed her lips. Her mirror image did the same thing. Perfect! She had just been touching up in the school restroom and getting ready for the big ‘Grand Opening of Carousel Boutique’ fashion show. Or, as she liked to call it, la pèice de résistance. Of course, she would’ve loved to be there for the whole event, however, in her father’s opinion, there were more important things to be attending to. Also known as, your first day of middle school. Blegh. Whatever. At least she got to go to the fashion event. Well, she planned it so she could make at least her favourite event.

“Rare!” The shrill voice of Amethyst Star made its way into Rarity’s brain. “Your dad’s chauffeur’s here to pick you up!”

“Amy darling, how many times have I told you, its father not dad! And also, he’s my private chauffeur!”

“Well, you coming or not?” Amethyst questioned, “You’re gonna be late!”

Just then, a new face popped out in front of the door, “HEY YOU GUYS!!” Pinkie Pie. “WHATCHA DOING?!”

“Hello there, Pinkie dear. I’m just preparing to go to the fashion show that my boutique’s holding.” Rarity replied.

“CAN I COME?”

“Sure, I guess…”

“THEN LET”S GO!” Pinkie pulled her out to the waiting car.

“Take us to Carousel Boutique please.” Was Rarity’s last statement before the 2 girls were whisked away towards the waiting show.
