Jay Sky jolted awake. Missiles were booming everywhere, sending building parts flying and screams of terror. It was all so much to take in. Right as Jay came to his senses, a bomb hurtled itself straight over his head and exploded a few feet behind him. He was flung into the air like a ragdoll, all feeling left his body.
Feeling came back to his body, but at the wrong moment. Because just as it came back he slammed into the ground nose first. He could feel the impact travel through his body, all the way to the tip of his tail. Every bone in his body rattled but oddly nothing broke. But everything ached, Jay just wanted to lay there and drift away. Yet something was holding him back, for some reason he couldn't let go. Or more like he wouldn't. Something deep inside him willed him to get up, to survive.
He finally managed to get up. When he looked around he saw a large group of ponies marching through the ruin, searching for anything of value. As Jay watched them, they drew nearer. To the left a few feet away one of the ponies had found a young filly, she looked to be around Jay's age. He was going to call out to them, but then the most terrible thing happened.
The pony who found the filly drew a knife from a saddle bad and gripped her mane with his hoof, and with one swift slice, he brought the knife down upon her neck. Jay Sky watched in horror as the life left the filly's eyes. As the last drop left her throat, Jay was pulled back by his mane. He would have screamed but a hoof covered his mouth and he was dragged into a dark cave.
Jay sky was dropped to the ground and began to scream. His kidnapper moved what looked like a chunk of wall in front of the cave entrance and blocked it off. Pitch black surrounded both of them and Jay stopped screaming and started to hyperventilate.
"Geeze, you need to calm down" the kidnapper said.
Jay couldn't tell if the pony who took him was male or female but right now he didn't really care. All he wanted to do right now was get back to his mom and dad. He nearly came to tears but then he heard a weird snapping sound and a glowing stick appeared in a cut up muzzle. The glow began to get brighter and revealed the face of the pony. One of multiple questions in his head that had brewed were answered. The pony was a mare.
Her facial features were dark and gloomy. She was a deep blue earth pony with a pure white mane. Her tail was short and light green. A scar ran from the right of her forhead and stopped just bellow her left eye. She looked like she was a bit younger than Flash Quake. Strapped to her side on a leather belt was a short dagger, the blade was slightly stained with blood. Almost every feature about this mare was scary, except her eyes. Her eyes where both the color of the sunset. Intense, but gentle.
"Who are you?" Jay asked the mare.
"I am Asha," She said "Who are you?"
"My name is Jay Sky..." It. Took his eyes a few moments to adjust to the darkness around them "What is this place?"
Asha snorted "A filly of your age doesn't know where you are? I thought that rebel group you were in would've taught you something before they were bombed."
"Rebel group? Whats a rebel group?" He asked with curiosity and confusion.
"It a group of re-" She began to say "Wait, you're a spy aren't you?!"
Right after she said that she lunged at Jay, knocking him over and pinned him to his back. He screamed out with surprise and terror and the pony drew a knife from a belt she had strapped to her waist and pointed it down at him. She had a flare in her eyes, and they seemed to change color too.
"No no no!! I swear Im not a spy!" Jay struggled desperately, trying to get away from the blade.
"I'm going to trust you for now, but if you betray me..." She twisted the knife a bit and then put it away.
Jay understood what she meant. As she backed away from him, he slowly began to haul himself up to a sitting position. Her eyes seemed to go back to their gentlness and original color. She watched him with a bit of uncertainty before turning around and peeking outside.
A gust of hot wind blew in, but Asha didn't seemed to be disturbed by it. She stepped away from the door and sighed. Jay wanted to know what was going on, but before he could ask the sight of her blade shut him up. She trotted to one side of the cave and laid down, neatly tucking her hooves under her chest. It was an odd way to sleep but she seemed comfortable.
Jay sat there far a bit longer, and then took a shaky breath in. "What did that pony do to the filly?"
"He killed her. Why do you ask?" Asha looked over at Jay and a bit of shock filled her eyes. "You've never seen a pony get killed before?"
His eyes were full of pure horror. Asha realized that Jay never had witnessed that, she felt a little bad for him.
"So it is your first time... First time is always the worst.." Her voice was a bit shaky. "Just try and get some rest." She laid her head down and closed her eyes.
He.... He killed her? Jay thought Who would do such a thing?
He sat there, replaying the scene in his head. Tearing up and whinning everytime the knife flashed down. It was such a quick motion, and the filly's eyes. Her eyes were full of life, and then, they were dead. Open and watching the world around her, but looking into nothing.
Asha opened one of her eyes and looked at Jay, she couldn't help feeling bad for him again. The first time she saw a pony die, the image kept haunting her. Day and night, it took her months to recover from it.
"Hey, kid... Wake up..." As the words came out of her mouth, she and the world around Jay began to fade.
Everything became dark. Nothing was real anymore, it was just there. And it wasn't there. Jay was floating in the nothing, nearly becoming one with it before light shone. He drifted towards the light and opened his eyes to see Flash Quake sitting beside him, his head drooped and tears falling from his eyes.
"D..... Dad?" Jay asked, before closing his eyes again, and falling into a peaceful sleep.
