Chapters "My Celestia!" Bon Bon moaned, "I'm bored...if only something exciting could happen." she then sighed. "And where the heck is Lyra, she's meant to be helping me today."
She shrugged and went with opening her candy store to begin her usual daily business in ponyville.
Since Twilight's castle was created, the town gained a huge level of attention from all lifeforms in Equestria. Whilst tourists come and go to see the castle and the town itself, life in Ponyville had remained the same as it had always been. However today, things were about to be turned upside down.
Outside town, Lyra Heartstrings was on yet another one of her failed attempts to discover something new in the Everfree Forest in the hope she'll find something else besides the usual creatures.
"There's going to be a human in Equestria today!" she declared, "I'm sure of it this time."
This was the tenth time she attempted this ever since she got into the habit of believing in other lifeforms on other planets, thanks to one of Twilight's lectures about astronomy which Bon Bon did not approve.
Lyra walked deeper into the forest as usual and for the moment, nothing happened and it was all quiet.
"Hmm, perhaps a little too quiet."
Suddenly, she heard a roar followed by a scream coming from afar.
"No...I will n-n-not be scared this t-t-t-time." she shivered as she trotted deeper to where it came from.
She then came across something she had always wanted to see...there was a human running down the forest pathway towards her, before looking behind the human to see a hydra-looking monster stomping away and catching up with the poor human.
Lyra gasped, "This...cannot be good." she commented.
"ARGH! GET THE MONSTER AWAY FROM ME!" the human shouted at the top of his lungs.
The human tripped up and fell forwards, hitting the ground hard before looking back at the hydra closing in. It appeared that he was going to be the monster's lunch for the day until Lyra plucked up the courage and quickly dashed towards the human and tried valiantly to pick him up and place him on her back.
"Ugh! This human is...ugh, a bit...heavy, but we'll ugh...make it out of here alive!" Lyra groaned as she finally got him on her back and began galloping out of the forest as quick as she could.
She then jumped over a loose log and the hydra failed to notice the log and ended up tripping on it and stumbled backwards before falling to the ground, then noticing the heads were tangled up.
Lyra looked back and breathed a sigh of relief as she and the human finally exited the forest and were now a walk away from the town. By then, the human had finally caught his breath and regained his focus.
"Ugh...is the monster gone?" he asked worryingly as he got off Lyra's back, "Woah, where did you come from?"
"From Ponyville, duh." Lyra remarked.
"Ponyville?" he pondered before gasping, "Oh don't tell me I've died and gone to heaven!"
"Excuse me, but I am not that attractive."
"Not you, it was an expression for saying that I must be in Equestria."
"Ohhh, why didn't you say so, human?"
"Just...forget about it." the human sighed.
"Ummm, sure. I'm Lyra Heartstrings, human and who are you?"
"Well believe it or not, I already know about this world." he boasted, "But you can call me...Steve."
"Steve? That's a pretty name." she then yelled and jumped in total delight by surprise.
"What the...steady on Lyra, I'm just a human." Steve exclaimed.
"Exactly!" she replied happily, "I was so caught up with the hydra issue that I forgot to be all excited to finally see a human! Now nopony will say I'm crazy ever again."
"Umm, I don't think we should go to that length just yet. You only just saved me from being inside a hydra's digestive system, which I thank you for by the way."
"Don't mention it."
"And besides, I am aware that you love humans, but what about the other ponies, what will they think of me?"
"Oh don't worry about them, they're don't mean much ever since Twilight got herself a castle."
"I see, but still...can you take me somewhere to eat, I'm vanished after all that running."
"So much for not wanting to have attention by other ponies."
"Oh, you have a better idea?"
"Yeah! Walk with me to my shared home with Bon Bon, we'll have something made for you."
"Okay...thanks."
Lyra and Steve walked into Ponyville and whilst a few ponies did catch a glimpse of him, they didn't take much notice to make a deal out of it, since Lyra was with him. They arrived at a big house and Lyra walked in first and Steve followed. To his surprise, the house was more than tall enough for him to stand straight.
"Well, it lacks technology, but it's a good home for a pony world." Steve complimented back-handedly.
"Umm....thank you?" Lyra asked who was confused. "Lunch will be ready shortly."
"Cheers."
Steve found a sofa to sit on and got himself comfortable as he began to relax and feel better after his eventful ordeal earlier.
Meanwhile, back at Bon Bon's stall, business was running slow as ever until one of the flower ponies came towards her.
"Hey Bon Bon, did you see a huge gorilla walking by?" Rose asked her.
"A gorilla?" Bon Bon asked, raising her eyebrows.
"Yeah, it was walking on two hooves and I think it was with your room friend Lyra."
"What?!"
Bon Bon slammed her hooves on the stall which made Rose jump back.
"I know, I couldn't believe it, but a few other ponies saw it." Rose added.
"No, no, no, not the gorilla. I just can't believe Lyra forgot to help me today..." Bon Bon sighed, "...this human as Lyra likes to call it better be worth missing her promise to me!"
"Wait, so it's a human that Lyra keeps on dreaming about?"
"Yes...and now I'm sure she won't shut up about it for as long as it's here. But either way, not much is happening for my business today so I shouldn't be disappointed at her."
"Well, take care. I hope the human is nice."
Rose then trotted back to her flower store whilst Bon Bon closed up her store earlier and walked back to her home with a displeased expression.
Back inside, Steve was eating away with the lunch Lyra had made for him at the dining table. After he was done, the front door opened wildly and Bon Bon came walking in still with her same expression on.
"LYRA!" she called loudly.
"Oh hi Bon Bon." Lyra replied as she looked at her, "What's with the long face?"
"Ugh! I told you to stop telling that joke, it's not funny!"
"Aww come on, Bons, it always is to me."
"Anyways, that's not what I'm here for. I had to close my stall earlier than today as first of all, you didn't show up to help me as promised and secondly, I heard that you brought a human into our home!"
"Yeah, isn't that amazing? Finally, I will no longer be called crazy!"
"Grrrr!"
"Aww cheer up Bons..." Lyra walked over and tried to comfort her "Sorry I wasn't there for you, but I was just so convinced that we would have a human in our world someday and it happened today!"
Bon Bon sighed in slight anger.
"Where is this human?" she asked more calmly.
"He's in the dining room, you should go and say hi to him."
"Fine...whatever!"
Bon Bon walked into the dining room and saw Steve and tried to put on a smile.
"Hi there, human. I'm Bon Bon, Lyra's friend." she greeted him.
"Hiya Bon Bon, I'm Steve." he replied as he held out his hand.
They shook hoof and hand.
"Hmm, he's not too bad actually, he seems like a nice human." she thought in her mind.
"So why not get to know each other while I head out." Lyra suggested as she grabbed her harp with her magic.
"Oh, where are you going?" Steve asked.
"I've gotta head to the filly school, I'm in a music group as part of the school play, I'll see you both later."
Lyra then trotted out the front door and closed it behind her.
"So Lyra found you, did she?" Bon Bon asked.
"Yeah, I was being chased by a hydra-looking monster." he giggled nervously, thinking back to earlier.
"Well, whilst I haven't seen it myself, I will believe it for a moment but I'm still not pleased with Lyra today."
"Oh I'm sure she didn't mean to break her promise, but if you look at it in hindsight, if it wasn't for her, I would be digested in a monster's stomach right now."
Bon Bon facehoofed.
"Thank you for the wonderful image, Steve. Now I shall have trouble sleeping tonight."
"Sorry..."
"Never mind...so tell me, how did you get here?"
"Well it's a very long story and most of it's really boring and soooo clichéd."
"I can wait for as long as you need to tell me, I closed for my candy store for the day anyway."
"Okay, it all began when I was one of the many test subjects for a dream teleportation experiment. It was a new process for humans to create and made a dream become a real life part of the human world and for a while, it seemed to work in small dreams."
Bon Bon's pupil's in her eyes shrank at the thought.
"However, when the science team behind it got to my turn, it all went horribly wrong, the system on the teleportation went off the grid and the dream I was making failed to stop." Steve added, "Then the next minute, I was blanked out and then woke up in the forest to find myself here."
"That doesn't sound clichéd." Bon Bon protested.
"Well once you read a few stories like this one, everything will look like a cliché."
Unaware of what he said, Steve had just made a fourth wall reference.
"Hmm, maybe you're right." Bon Bon then cleared her throat. "So how long do you think you'll be staying here, if this is a dream to you?"
"Actually, I don't believe I can get back to my human world." he replied sadly, "What I went through could've nearly killed me and that would've been the end of it."
Bon Bon moved her head down slightly.
"Ohhh, that was stupid for me to ask, forgive me."
"I already have."
"Anyways, I suppose you and Lyra will start dating in the future and be her one and only true lover."
"Actually...no."
"Huh?"
"From the way I see it, Lyra may just be a friend to me and nothing more."
"Are you serious?"
Steve then got out of the chair and walked over to the living room window.
"I never joke about love....not since my last relationship, but that's not for here."
"Oh...it's alright. Well in that case, I could make up a spare room for you in our house if you want."
Steve turned around to Bon Bon.
"Really? You would do that for a human like me?" he asked.
"Of course, you seem like a real nice person, Steve. I would definitely like to get along with you."
Bon Bon then walked up the stairs.
"I'll get a bed made for you so you can sleep well tonight."
"Wow...thank you. Deep down, you're a wonderful mare and so welcoming."
Bon Bon blushed slightly at his high praise as she walked upstairs and got a spare room made for him.
"Wow, Steve is a really nice guy." Bon Bon thought as she began making his bed, "He has some reservations on a few issues, but very open to many discussions."
Although, the one thing on her mind was about Lyra. What would she make of the fact that Steve only sees her as a friend and if there's a hint of a possibility, could Bon Bon be attracted to him, despite the different appearances between each other?
Bon Bon didn't let that phase her, for the moment she was glad to have someone else to talk to besides Lyra for once.
Steve was letting his curiosity for freedom as he looked around the house whilst Bon Bon was making a spare room for him. When she came back, she was showing a sheepish expression.
"Umm Steve." she said, feeling a little shy, "I'm afraid I don't have a spare room to share, but I do have an empty space in my bedroom as mine's bigger than Lyra's since I'm the mare of the house who pays most of the bills."
"I see." he replied, "Well that's okay, I could find a hotel to sleep at, there should be one around here."
"That's not what I meant, I'm offering you to share a part of my bedroom where you can at least have a bed to sleep on with a roof over your head."
"Oh I understand now-wait what?!"
"What I mean is...would you like to share my king-size bed with me is what I'm asking?"
Steve was a little unsure about it, he only just got into this world and now he was being offered to sleep with her but in an innocent and friendly way.
"Of course, but I would like to think about it until I know for sure."
Bon Bon plucked up a bit and smiled again.
"Alright, in the meantime, you should go and explore Ponyville, I won't stop you."
"I think that would be good for me." he paused as he got out of the chair and began walking to the front door, "Okay, I'll be back later."
"Okay Steve, you take care, now."
He nodded and opened the door, he then left the house and began exploring the village. Things seemed to be peaceful and quiet for him as he walked around, but not before long, other ponies began to take notice. Some of them gasped and one ran for cover, others weren't so dramatic, a couple of them just ignored him and went on thier own businesses. But shortly, he was about to get a big surprise as he past Sugarcube Corner.
"WHEE! Oh my gosh! It's the gorilla!" Pinkie shouted as she bounced in front of him.
"What the...!" Steve said before he got cut off.
"I'm Pinkie Pie and I wanna welcome you to our Ponyville with a super duper welcome party!"
"I...figured..." he began rubbing his head. "Anyways, I'm not a gorilla, I'm a human."
"Oooh, a human?" she jumped happily before stopping, "Uh what's a human?"
Steve pondered for a moment and thought of an idea.
"It's the obsession that Lyra has dreamt of seeing until today."
"Oh I get it now, you're the human that Lyra has dreamt about?"
"Well not exactly, just a human. I'm not really the human."
"Well either way, I want you to have the best welcoming party ever with a song!"
Pinkie then bounced around him and was about to sing when Steve cut her off.
"Umm, I don't need a song to be welcomed here. Lyra pretty much did that for me already, minus the singing."
"Awww..."
"But I will most certainly visit Sugarcube Corner."
"Then don't stand there like a dummy, go on in!"
Steve sighed as he wondered why being called a dummy was a compliment before he let that slide and walked into the sweet store.
"Why hello there and welcome to-" Cupcake greeted before she interrupted herself when she saw Steve. "-argh! A monster!"
"No no no!" Pinkie replied, "This is umm...errr."
"I'm Steve and I'm not a monster." he moaned.
"Awww, turn that frown upside down." she said as she demonstrated turning her head the wrong way. "Here, have a cupcake."
She picked on from the counter and showed it to him.
"Umm, alright."
Steve then took a cupcake from Pinkie and began eating it, noticing there was red jam in the middle.
"Hmm, very tasty...well worth it."
"Why thank you." Cupcake replied.
"It's on the house since Pinkie greeted you." Carrot Cake added as he walked past with the cake twins.
"Well if it's okay with you Pinkie, I wish to explore the rest of Ponyville." Steve said as he looked at Pinkie who was eating a cupcake herself.
"Okie dokie lokie, I'll see you around!" she replied happily.
Steve left the sweet store and resumed his exploring. He walked past the elegant home known as Carousel Boutique but since fashion was not his style, he had no such interest, but then again, it wouldn't be hygienic for him to wear the same clothes everyday. Perhaps it would be wise for him to straighten the issue out right now then leave it to the last minute as he used to do a lot of times in the human world.
He gulped as if he was swallowing his pride and knocked on the door before opening it and walking into the fashion store.
"Hello, is anyone...I mean anypony here?" he called out.
"Oooh, a new customer." Rarity replied from another room, "Wait right there dear, I won't be long."
Rarity trotted to the main area till she saw Steve.
"Oh my goodness!" she gasped, "Who or what are you?"
"The human that Lyra found and I have a name too." he replied.
"Human? Lyra? Sorry darling but I don't pay attention to pointless gossip...unless it's to do with fashion."
"Yeah, about that-"
"And speaking of fashion, look at what you're wearing, so amateur."
Steve felt slightly offended by Rarity's critique.
"Wait, are you insulting my choice of clothing?" he exclaimed.
"Why of course, I was just sharing my thoughts like any other fashion pony would do." she boasted, "Now stop standing there, looking like a twit and get on with what you wanted to see me for."
Steve was severely tempted to slander Rarity for all she's worth, but that would do him no favours at all. Then he thought what the heck, he'll say his piece.
"You know, I was wondering if you could do me a favor by having some clothes designed for human sizes like me." he then began to turn around. "But since you can't talk to me properly without offending me and without even knowing me at all, I'll just leave and go somewhere else to find clothes."
"Oh come on now. Don't take it personally, I have my standards, but I try to put it aside with good intentions."
"That's not how you were earlier." he muttered.
"What was that?"
"I said that you're telling all those things but you don't even know my name."
"Oh right, where are my manners?" she then felt sheepish, "I am Rarity, Ponyville's fashion expert at your service."
Steve showed a slight smile.
"That's better...I'm Steve, nothing more."
He then shook his hand with Rarity's hoof.
"Now about my clothes, I don't have a specific fashion type or statement." he explained, "As long as the clothes are in my size and comfy to wear, nothing else matters."
"I see...well, I will need to make a few measurements before I can start work."
Steve knew what she meant as he would have to take off his clothes in order for Rarity to get the measurements right.
"Okay...but I must keep my pants on."
"Of course, I have no desire to see whatever it is you have down there."
"Excuse me?!"
"Now let's get on with the measurements, time is money, dear."
Steve sighed and soon Rarity to began to take his measurements. After a while, was able to get an idea for his clothes sizes and wrote them down on a blank paper.
"Alright, now it's going to take a few days, but you should have your newly designed clothes by then." she said as Steve put his clothes back on.
"Cool, I'll make sure to stay clean at all times, but I must be going now."
"Please do, see you next time Steve."
Steve left the boutique and breathed a sigh of relief as he was away from the stench of the perfume. He had then reached the end of Ponyville and walked along a bridge to find a cottage by the lake. Upon walking closer, he could hear a singing voice that caught his attention.
"Hello? Who is that singing?" he called out as he approached the house.
Fluttershy appeared, she stood in front of him and looked up.
"Oh um...hello there." she greeted in her shy way, "I've never seen an animal like you before."
"Why yeah, I'm Steve and I'm a human, not an animal." he replied.
"Oh I understand. I'm Fluttershy, nice to meet you."
"I'm glad you're taking this well, you don't seem to be afraid of me like a few other ponies I saw earlier."
"Well once you've taken care of every animal lifeform in Equestria for as long as I have, it doesn't surprise me."
Steve perked up.
"Wait, do you mean that there have been humans before me?"
Fluttershy looked back and blinked a few times.
"Oh uh...sorry for interrupting, continue." he replied embarrassingly.
"Oh no, that's all I had to say."
"Oh"
"So umm...I guess you have to go?"
"Yeah, I have yet to see the rest of Ponyville since I arrived here earlier today."
"Oh, well okay then...maybe I'll see you again soon."
"Maybe, see you next time."
Steve then waved and Fluttershy waved back before she went back in her cottage. Steve began walking onto a long footpath that left the town before he found himself approaching the apple farm. He could almost smell the scent of the red apples and was tempted to take a few when no pony was looking. When he arrived at the entrance and onto the farm, he then heard a cowboy catchphrase as Applejack walked towards him with her eyes closed.
"Well howdy there. We sure like makin' some new friends." she greeted. "Ah'm Applejack."
"Hi there, I'm Steve and I'm a human." he replied before he placed his hands on his mouth as if he wasn't meant to say that.
Applejack opened her eyes and gasped.
"Well ah'll be...never seen anypony like ya before."
"That's because I'm not a pony, I said I was a human." he complained.
"Ah know what ya said, don't get ya feathers in a twist, sugarcube."
"Feathers in a...no wait, I wanna move on from that now." he paused for a second, "I came here cause I was curious about these apples you seem to grow here."
"Why of course, everypony in Equestria loves our apples." she boasted proudly.
"Do you have any evidence?"
"Just ask our loyal customers, especially Rainbow Dash who loves our apple cider."
Suddenly, they heard a whoosh zoom by before they noticed that it was indeed Rainbow who appeared from nowhere and landed beside Applejack.
"Did somepony say apple cider?!" she asked excitedly, "Have you got a barrel full of cider already?"
"Not now Rainbow." Applejack replied, trying to calm her down. "Ah'm busy talking to mah new friend 'ere."
She pointed at Steve who showed a smile at Rainbow.
"Woah, Applejack! Have you lost your barn or something, what kind of a pony is that?"
"He's not a pony, this is Steve and he is a human." Applejack corrected. "He may look nothin' ah've seen before, but the least ya can do is try to be civil with him."
"Right...anyway, have you got the apple cider or not?"
"No, not for another three weeks at the very least."
"Um if I may say something please?" Steve asked, "Can I get going now, I don't wanna stand here and look like a twit as Rarity put it to me earlier."
"Oh, ya met Rarity earlier, did ya? Well in any case, why not take one of these delicious apples, on the house."
She then picked up an apple from a basket and gave it to Steve.
"Thanks Applejack, I'll see you both again."
"Okay sugarcube, see ya again."
Steve then left the farm whilst Rainbow tapped Applejack on the shoulder and suggested imitating Rarity's voice to each other for fits and giggles. When Steve walked backed to Ponyville, he was thinking of going back to Bon Bon's house until he saw the tree-shaped castle with a library logo on it. He then knocked on the door and opened it to find himself surrounded by huge shelves filled with books.
"Well...somepony like his or her reading a little too much." he commented.
"Yeah, that's Twilight Sparkle for you." a voice replied.
Steve then looked to see Spike was busy sweeping on the stairs.
"Well if it isn't the one and only Spike."
He stopped sweeping and then looked at Steve, before the pupils in his eyes shrank in seconds.
"ARGH!" he yelled, "TWILIGHT! THERE'S A MONSTER AND IT'S WALKING ON TWO LEGS!"
Twilight heard the scream which caught her attention from the latest book she was reading.
"Ugh, Spike!" Twilight replied as she began walking from her bedroom, "You know there's no such thing as-"
She cut herself off when she saw Steve whilst Spike ran away, trying to find cover.
"Hi there, Twilight is it?" Steve asked cautiously, "I'm Steve and I'm a human."
Twilight gasped and began to show a big smile, then from out of nowhere, she jumped towards him and knocked him down as he fell on his back.
"Ow!" he said as he felt a bit of pain, "What was that for?"
"I can't believe it! I thought Lyra was kidding, but she was right all along. A human lives on Equestria after all! Oh I must learn how to study humans, I could learn so much from you!"
"Uh yeah, that's not going to happen I'm afraid...now would you please get off me before I break something else?"
"Oops...sorry."
Twilight then got off him and Steve got back up, trying to make his back feel better.
"Right, so you're the one responsible for teaching Lyra about multiple universes and giving Bon Bon all kinds of grief?" he asked.
"Of course, I excel in all kinds of studying, especially astronomy." she replied proudly.
"That's...great."
"Are you being sarcastic?"
"No I was just showing my lack of interest in that subject."
"Hmm for a human, you seem to have a strange behaviour."
"Yeah well everypony will have to get used to it." Steve declared, "Anyways, I should go back to where I'm staying."
"Oh okay...in the meantime, I shall be writing a letter to the Princess about this new encounter."
"Umm, sure whatever...see you around."
Twilight didn't reply as she was already writing down on a piece of paper with her quill.
Steve left the library and walked back to Bon Bon's home. Finally he could get some rest for his feet as he walked in and got himself comfy on the sofa. He was just in time too as he could smell food cooking in the kitchen.
"Oh hi Steve, how was your day?" Bon Bon asked.
"It was really eventful to say the least." he replied.
"Well you can tell me about it another time, dinner will be ready shortly."
"Cool."
Just then, the front door opened and in came Lyra with her harp.
"Hey Bon Bon and Steve, I'm back!" she called.
"Oh hey Lyra, you're just in time." Bon Bon replied from the kitchen.
"Sweet, I'm so hungry after my performance earlier in the filly school play."
"Oh yeah, how did it go?" Steve asked as he sat up.
"Went terrific, apart from the moment where the Cutie Mark Crusaders nearly tripped up on thier costumes and landing beside us."
"Dinner's ready, you two!" Bon Bon called.
Steve and Lyra nodded as they made thier way to the kitchen to find the food waiting for them.
Dinner turned out to be an impressive one for Steve who was now full up and no longer had his hidden stomach growls roaring quietly. Lyra and Bon Bon began to wash the dishes whilst Steve cleared up the table. He kept looking at Bon Bon whenever he could, he was beginning to come around to the idea that maybe if he wanted to, he could ask her out on a date to see where it goes, even though Lyra was the one who found him and saved him.
But would Lyra be jealous or upset about it, was Steve willing to take the risk? Only he could answer that, but he decided it was best to wait until later to make his first move.
In the days that had followed, Steve was given the opportunity to have an audience with Princess Celestia so that he could be introduced more calmly without being given awkward looks from other ponies and he knew there was no way he could turn it down. Mayor Mare offered Steve a place of his own, but he declined it as he already was living with Bon Bon and Lyra and he also had his own ideas. All the while, Lyra had grown fond of him bit by bit and she began to find him attractive, but Steve didn't know about this.
When it was his fourth day in Equestria, he thought that now would be the right time to perhaps ask Bon Bon out on a date, but as for Lyra, he would cross that bridge when it occurs. Bon Bon was in the kitchen and she was learning to make muffins that had her own sweets added in as requested by Pinkie who was setting up a surprise party for Derpy's daughter, Dinky and it was her 9th birthday.
Steve walked from his shared bedroom downstairs to the kitchen and he looked around quickly to see that Lyra was not at home, so he was safe to begin his move.
"Hi Bon Bon, have you got a minute?" he asked as he took a seat at the table.
"Just a moment," she replied quickly, "I'm about to put these muffins in the oven for baking."
She does so using a pair of oven gloves and placed them in the oven that was pre-heated already. She was done and she placed the oven gloves by the sink, ready for when she needs them later to take out the muffins when cooked.
"Okay, so what do you need to tell me?" Bon Bon asked as she sat by the table. "No wait, I think I already know this."
Steve looked surprised but was unsure what she meant by it.
"Uhh, you mean, that you know?" he asked.
"In a way yes and I'm still in shock myself."
"The shock that you have to stand on your two hooves to even cuddle me?"
Bon Bon returned a displeased glare at him.
"No! I meant as in that I'm beginning to like you and I mean...a lot."
"Oh I see...to be honest, I knew what you meant just then, I was only joking around."
"Oh right...sorry, I'm just not used to letting a bit of my humour out."
"Because of Lyra?"
"Yeah, but she's not unpleasant or mean and I've known her long enough to learn that she would never be like that."
"So getting back to you liking me, I have to confess...that I like you a lot as well, but..."
"But what?"
Bon Bon lowered her head, just realizing why there was a but in his reply.
"Yeah, I'm a human and you're a pony, but if we really like each other, I can put that under the bridge so to speak."
"Really? You would do that for me?"
"Of course."
"But I have to ask though, why me, why not Lyra?"
"As I said before, Lyra may have been the one who found me, but she's just going to be a friend to me." Steve paused as he held onto Bon Bon's hooves. "It's you that I want share my love with, no pony else."
"Oh well...umm." she was silent for a moment, blushing all the while.
"So, is it a date?" he asked, raising his eyebrows quickly.
Bon Bon began to smile.
"Yeah, why not. Let's go for it."
"Cool, so when shall we have our first date?"
"We can have it later tonight, Lyra will be too tired after her music practice so she'll watch over the house while we're out."
"Sounds like good news to me. Then later tonight it shall be."
"In the meantime, I've gotta back to finishing off the cooking." she then got out of her chair and went to the oven to check on the muffins, "By the way, have you had any luck finding a job yet?"
Steve looked at his watch, pointing towards the 11th hour. "Not exactly, but I'll try again shortly."
"Okay, I'll see you back here, let me know if you find a job."
"I will, see you later, Bon Bon."
Steve then left the house whilst Bon Bon checked to see the muffins were rising up but needed loads more time to be fully cooked. She then trotted upstairs into her bedroom and moving her head around, thinking that nopony is looking, she began to jump and down in excitement like she was a filly at a carnival.
"I can't believe it!" she exclaimed to herself, smiling ,"A human wants to go out with me on a date and it's happening tonight!"
She then sighed happily before going back to her normal behaviour and began cleaning Lyra's room which needed dusting.
Meanwhile, Steve was asking around the town for any jobs available but alas, there was none for him. He began to wonder of maybe he could find a job elsewhere, outside of Ponyville. Maybe he could try the high-class town of Canterlot which is a train journey away. Of course being human, he could try his luck by walking over there, but then again it would make him look completely daft.
He walked over to the station and got himself a ticket with whatever bits he had in his pocket and got a train ride to Canterlot. When he got there, his first idea was to try the nearest restaurant or cafe since he had a lot of experience in that field when was he back in the human world. He spotted one that looked kinda rich although that was obvious, but he wasn't looking ahead as he busy thinking of him and Bon Bon's upcoming date and ended up walking into the glass window beside the door.
"Ow! That hurt..." he moaned as he rubbed his left side of the head.
"Oh I say human, are you alright?" a stallion with a rich voice asked behind him.
Steve turned around to see Mr. Fancypants himself along with his wife, Fleur De Lis.
"Umm, I will be in time." he replied. "You're not afraid of me?"
"Afraid? Why we're ponies of the Canterlot kind, we would do nothing of the sort." Fancypants assured in his traditional manner.
"We are far more welcoming and classy compared to Ponyville." Fleur added without even thinking about her words
"Really? Cause that's where my home is right now." Steve replied with a confused look.
"Oh umm...my apologies." Fluer then squeed in embarrassment.
"Yes, now if you would introduce us to yourself, please?" Fancypants asked.
"Sure thing, I'm Steve the one and only human."
"Ahhh, you're the human from Ponyville."
"Yes and I came here cause I'm in need of a job such as this cafe."
"Ahhh, you have experience in that forte?"
"Yeah."
"Well, last I check, they are looking for any employee to join the catering team, so I'd say you would be working in the kitchen."
"Which is fine for me, thanks for the heads up."
"Very much welcome, we'll see you soon." Fleur replied as she and Fancypants began walking away from him.
Steve entered the cafe and as they said, nopony batted an eyelid at his appearance as if things were just normal, much to his relief. He walked over to the counter to find a small advertisement on a paper stapled.
"Wanted, new deputy head chef." he read, "Must have impressive experience and knowledge in catering. All lifeforms excepted." he shrugged, "I guess it means humans can apply for this job as well like I should since I'm the only kind."
"Well if that is where you stand, why don't we have an interview with the finest chef in Canterlot?" a voice responded from behind.
Steve turned around to see a griffon dressed in a chef outfit.
"And you are?" Steve asked.
"Gustave le Grand at your service, monsieur!" he replied holding his claw out.
"I'm...Steve."
They then shook hand and claw which for Steve was a bit rough compared to shaking a soft pony hoof.
"So an interview, what kind will it be?"
"It shall be where you must demonstrate an impressive recipe of your choice and no worry, I have all of the finest goods to make it possible."
"Right, but I have an odd question. Are you really a French griffon?"
"Oui! Why, can you not speak French?"
"No, but I remember Girls Aloud speaking French once."
"Who...you must mean mares aloud?"
Steve's eyes blinked.
"What?!"
"But let's not discuss about our differences, I shall let you know the date of your interview by letter, I expect you to prepare soon."
"Alright, in that case, I must depart from this cafe. See you next time Gustave."
"Au revioir, monsieur Steve!"
And with that, Steve left the cafe and all he could think of was just getting back home and telling Bon Bon the news that his luck with job finding had finally turned and if the interview would go well, he'll land himself a job very soon. When he got the train back to Ponyville, he found Lyra waiting for him which took him by surprise a little.
"Oh, hi Lyra. I wasn't expecting you here." he said.
"Hi Steve." she replied happily as she hugged his lower back without warning before letting go, "Bon Bon told me to look out for you and watch over the house as she's working at her candy store.
They then left the station and walked back to the house.
"Since when?" Steve asked.
"Just now, she won't be back until after dinner" she replied quickly. "And you know what that means?"
"Uhh, I don't know what you mean."
"It means I get my chance to spend some time with you, isn't that gonna be fun?"
"I guess so..." he laughed nervously.
When they got back to the house, it was the late afternoon and after walking in, Steve took his shoes off by the door and was walking upstairs to his shared bedroom. He was feeling quite tired and wanted a bit of a rest as well as plan on brining his catering experience up to date before he gets the mail to come to the restaurant for his interview and demonstration.
He began writing down a few things on a piece of paper by the bedside desk when Lyra came in with a sly look.
"Steve, mind if I speak to you about something?" she asked.
"I'm a little busy writing, but I guess I could spare a few minutes." he replied as he put the quill down and turned around. "So what is it?"
"Remember when I saved you a while ago?"
"Yeah?"
"Well, you never got to owe me a favor in return."
"Really? So becoming friends with Bon Bon doesn't count?"
"Nope...so I was wondering if you could help me in return."
She then began to walk forward and putting on her sly face.
"Umm Lyra, what are you doing?"
"I'm just getting closer so you can help me in return."
"In what way?"
Lyra sighed. "Okay, all I'm asking is that can you be my human love, cause no pony is gonna take that away from me!"
"Wait what?!"
Steve tried to back away by getting on the bed, but Lyra continued to move towards him.
"Oh come on, nopony else is watching." she said as she clambered on to the bed. "Besides, Bon Bon is out now buying supplies for her shop."
"That's what I'm afraid of."
"Of Bon Bon? Naaaah, she won't notice." she then winked, "Now let's get it on, mister!"
"As in getting off with me? No...just no!"
"Aww don't be shy. I bet you have a nice package."
"No, please! Just stop!"
Steve gently pushed her hooves back and Lyra moved back slightly.
"Why? What's wrong?"
"Apart from being this close to getting rutted by a unicorn mare for a strange reason, I just can't risk it."
"Risk what? Is it that you're already married?"
"Married? I have never been married in my life."
"Oh, are you engaged?"
"That's somewhat similar, but no."
"Then why are you hesitating towards me?"
Steve sighed as he knew he would have to tell her the truth a lot sooner than he planned.
"Lyra, I can't be with you, because I've already found a love interest."
"You...have?"
"Yes...and it's Bon Bon. She is the one who I have true feelings for."
Lyra got off the bed and looked away with a sad expression.
"But why her, am I not attractive enough?"
"No it isn't to do with your appearance, I just find Bon Bon more ideal and wonderful to me, as if my heart wants her to be given the love that she hasn't had for however long I've known her."
"Ohhh...I'll be in my room..."
Lyra began to sniff a few times as she left the bedroom and trotted into hers, before shutting the door behind her and began to cry on the middle of the room in sadness mixed with a bit of anger.
"Lyra, if you let me explain-"
"GO AWAY!" she shouted and cried from in her room. "Leave me alone!"
Steve knew there was no point in arguing after he had already told her the truth. He had to leave her be for now as later tonight, he and Bon Bon would be going on thier date. As for Lyra, she remained in her bedroom, devastated and heartbroken, still believing that because she was the one who found and saved him, she would have the right to be with him as his lover. From where Steve saw the issue, one could only hope that Bon Bon wouldn't find out about it before the date as who knows what would happen next.
It was the late afternoon and Steve was laying on the bed, feeling like he could kick himself slightly after he told Lyra the whole truth about his feelings. But even though he had to cause he wanted to be honest, he began to think that maybe he should've handled the situation a lot better by telling her the minute he became friends with her. However, he was concerned about what would Bon Bon say if she found out, but as he was pondering over it, he heard the front door open and close.
"Looks like she's back." he said to himself. "I better think about getting ready for our date tonight. If Lyra tells her about what I said, she might get angry."
"Anypony home?" Bon Bon asked as she walked up the stairs.
"Hi Bon Bon, I'm in here." Steve replied.
"Ah there you are, we'll be going on our date in a few minutes, I advise you to get ready."
"Yeah, okay."
"Is there something wrong?"
There was a knock on the door and Steve thought of that moment as a way out of the question.
"I'll go and get it, so you can get ready."
"Okay Steve."
He walked down stairs and opened the front door to see Rarity with a pile of neatly stacked clothing.
"Hello there Steve, here is your new line of clothing as promised." she said as she used her magic to bring in the clothing and placed them gently on the sofa. "I am sure they are up to your intelligent standards, dear."
Steve looked over and noticing a well made shirt and trousers, he made a big smile thinking that this will impress Bon Bon.
"Wow! You really went to town with these, thank you so much!" he complimented.
"Oh think nothing of it darling, it was my pleasure. I must get back to my boutique now, Sweetie Belle was caught trying to get herself frozen in time earlier."
"Wait a minute, what?"
"Au revioir, dear!"
Rarity then left and closed the door behind her whilst Steve shook his head and grabbed all of his new clothing and brought them upstairs.
"Bon Bon, check out the clothing Rarity made for me so I could have different ones to wear."
"Oh, was that her just then?"
"Yeah...I'm gonna change into these smart ones and see how it looks."
"Okay, I'd like to have a look as well." she then giggled as she was going over her clothes, "And I don't mean it that way."
"I wouldn't think of such a thing." he replied, raising his eyebrow a little before he went to the bathroom to have a bit of privacy.
Meanwhile, Lyra had stopped crying, but she was looking through her bedroom window with sadness, a couple of tissues were on the floor but Steve's words were playing on her mind nearly every minute. She heard Bon Bon return of course, but she didn't feel like coming out and taking to her. Bon Bon had just finished getting ready after a while and Steve was about ready to go. She knocked on Lyra's door and felt curious about why she was in her room a lot today.
"Lyra, is everything okay?" she asked.
"Yeah...it's fine." Lyra replied although it didn't sound convincing.
"Are you sure, you can tell me whatever it is you want."
"No it's okay, you and Steve have a wonderful time tonight."
"Alright, but I would like to come and see you when we get back later, please?"
"Yeah, we will, have a good time."
"Thank you." she turned to Steve who was now dressed more smartly. "You look very dashing."
"No pun intended if Rainbow was present." he smirked.
"Oh stop it, you. Come on, let's go."
Bon Bon and Steve then left the house and made thier way to the finest restaurant in Ponyville where it was sunset time. Back at the house, Lyra began to have an idea of her own and fed up of being sad throughout the beginning of the night, she wanted to cheer herself up. She left her bedroom and walked downstairs, into the kitchen and opened the fridge door.
"Typical, nothing for me to drink and have myself a good time." she sighed before noticing something at the far back of the fridge that caught her eye. "Oooh, what's this?" She picked up a bottle carefully and looked over it. "Made to stimulate your mind in times of sadness? Well whatever, I'm gonna drink this anyway!"
She then opened the lid and began drinking a small amount, at first nothing happened to her. She then drank some more and didn't feel much change at all.
"Hmm, maybe it needs a little something...I know, maybe I'll play with my harp and see if that will do anything."
She then walked upstairs with the drink and to her bedroom, she grabbed the harp and getting an idea, she walked back down the stairs and went outside, she sat on the bench just by the house and sitting in her usual position, she began to play a melody with the harp whilst drinking all the rest of the drink. Then the trouble began, Lyra failed to notice that the drink was alcoholic and imported from Las Pegasus as part of Bon Bon's monthly drink prescription. Lyra had completely forgotten all about it but it was too late, she was already beginning to feel a little drunk.
"Hmm, that's not how I err...play with the harp." she said as she began to feel different. "Maybe if...I correct...this..."
But it was no good, her harp was now sounding out of tune according to everypony else who bothered to listen and she began to feel a little frustrated.
"Ugh, come on....you s-s-s-s-stupid harp..." she exclaimed at the harp, not aware that the drink was now affecting her concentration. "...why...I oughta err kick...you...in the f-f-f-flank!"
Letting her anger developing, she threw her harp on the ground in disgust, luckily but not even caring, her harp didn't break but a part of it was now bent. She then got off the bench and began to walk around Ponyville which thankfully was beginning to look deserted as she began to stumble around the town, not knowing where she was going.
Meanwhile at the restaurant, Steve and Bon Bon were sitting comfortably as they had a table for two in the corner which was fine to them as they didn't want to have any attention on them, seeing as it's their first date. They had just ordered thier food and treated themselves to a bottle of wine to go along with their evening.
"Now this is what I call restaurant service." Steve commented. "Is it always busy like this?"
"Only on special occasions." Bon Bon replied, "Like the night we're having."
"And you are looking incredibly beautiful this evening, if I say so."
Bon Bon began to blush and beginning to look a little pink.
"Your blushing is quite sweet too." he added.
"Awww stop it, you're gonna make me weak at the hooves."
Steve poured a glass of wine for the both of them, before placing down the bottle and holding Bon Bon's left hoof.
"Are you blushing too?" she asked.
"I am a little, since I haven't been on a date for a long time." he replied.
Just then, a waiter came along with plates of food.
"That must be our meals." he added as they got served with thier ordered foods.
A few minutes later outside, Lyra was going through the short alleyways and accidentally walked into Berry Punch.
"Ooof!"
They both lost thier footing and landed by the plastic trash bins in a huge pile.
"Yuck!" Lyra exclaimed as she removed a peeled banana skin from her foreleg.
"You...why don't you...watch where...you're going?" Berry said as she tried to make it a proper sentence.
"No you..."
Lyra then got up after struggling to stay on her hooves and then caught sight of the restaurant, things were about to get ugly...
Inside, Bon Bon and Steve had just finished thier meals and were looking into each other's eyes.
"You know, I think we can make it work." Bon Bon said.
"I feel the same way." Steve replied. "Despite our appearances, I am definitely sure that I want to be with you and love you."
"Even when we're kissing?"
"Especially when we kiss."
"Well, how about now, nopony's watching."
Just as they were about to kiss, the restaurant doors opened and in came Lyra who was now absolutely wasted, still holding the now empty bottle in her hoof.
"Where...are they?!" she asked, almost yelling with her voice.
Steve and Bon Bon looked over at where the voice was from and Bon Bon facehoofed first whilst Steve looked stunned.
"Oh for the love of Celestia..." she moaned, "...what she gone and done now?"
"This is not good." he muttered.
"Aha!" Lyra exclaimed as she saw the two of them. "There you are...now can I...errr tell...you something?"
She was about to stumble towards them until two pony workers came and escorted her out of the restaurant.
"Nooo!" she whined, "Get...your hooves...off me...I have...errr my rights, you hear?!"
"Ugh! This is so embarrassing..." Bon Bon sighed as she covered her face which was now redder than ever. "I'm going to check up on her now."
"Alright, I'll come out with you too." he replied before he placed several bits on a small empty plate and then left the restaurant.
When they were outside, they spotted Lyra down one of the alleyways, she was sitting down with the empty bottle and was in tears.
Bon Bon sighed as she walked over to comfort her, she took the bottle away and looked at it.
"Oh for Celestia's sake! Why did you drink one of mine?" she asked calmly.
"I didn't mean to..." Lyra cried, "...I was...just so upset *sniff* that I wanted to cheer myself up by drinking."
"But you know you can't handle this kind of drink, we had this discussion before."
"I know...I'm sorry Bon Bon, but I was hurt when Steve told me the truth."
Steve suddenly felt like his heart was pierced
"Wait a minute, you're upset because Steve told you that he loves me?"
"Yeah...but now I feel really stupid for the way I acted...umm uh oh..."
Lyra cut herself off as she got to the nearest trash bin, stuck her head inside it and began to throw up.
"Oh Lyra...I'm so sorry to see you like this." Bon Bon said as she pulled Lyra into a comforting and caring hug. "Let's go home, we'll have a proper talk then."
"Lyra, I'm really sorry that I hurt your feelings." Steve apologized.
"No, it's alright." she replied as she began to wipe away her tears. "I was being too dramatic and I don't wanna get in the way of your date night."
"Are you sure?" Bon Bon asked.
"Yeah, I'll just go to the fountain and wash myself when no pony is looking."
Steve just blinked, unable to speak.
"Uhh, too much information there but okay, we'll see you in the morning."
"See you two, have a good night."
And with that, Steve and Bon Bon headed back to the house, thinking of how to finish thier wonderful date night despite Lyra's sorrow getting in the way for a moment. As for Lyra, she began to show a smile, she then got back up on her hooves and washed her face clean by the fountain. After she was done, she spotted a stallion that caught her attention...
After finally settling the issue that was in the way, Steve and Bon Bon went up the stairs into the big bedroom. As they walked in, Bon Bon closed the door behind her and locked it. There was going to be no more interruptions this time, they've waited a while for this moment to happen during the night with the clear sky and the moon present. Steve sat on the bed first and Bon Bon sat beside him. He held onto her hoof and they exchanged warm, loving smiles at one another.
"So just to be sure one last time." Bon Bon said as she wrapped her hooves around him. "You're willing to show me your love?"
"Yes I am." Steve replied confidently as he did the same, "I knew it since the first day I saw you as the one I truly love."
Bon Bon could only smile back and almost began crying a single tear.
"I'm just...so happy to finally have somepony-I mean someone that I love." she sniffed.

Bon Bon giggled.
"You know, I think I'm gonna love getting used to your nicknames for me."
Steve returned a seductive look.

Both of them were exhausted and began catching thier breaths as Steve lied down beside her, almost collapsing whilst Bon Bon took his manhood out of her region and letting the excess fluids out, leaving a bit of the mess on the bed sheet.
"Oh...wow..." he panted. "That was...the best...sex ever!"
"I'm...really glad you enjoyed it..." she replied before she was able to speak normal again, "...because you're the only one I want to make love to from now on."
"And I'll always be the one to help give you my candy love."
"Thank you Steve...I love you so much."
"I love you so much too my candy mare."
They began to kiss softly and cuddled tightly before regaining all of thier senses and looking around the bedroom.
"We should probably clean up before calling it a night." Steve suggested.
"Agreed." Bon Bon replied, "You just place the clothes away and I'll get the bed sheet washed and cleaned tomorrow."
She then got off the bed before unlocking the bedroom door and walked into the bathroom to clean herself up whilst Steve did the same afterwards before putting on his nightwear clothing that was among the pile that Rarity gave to him earlier. When they were done, Bon Bon got out a spare bed sheet and made the bed which now looked the same as it was before the passionate romance.
"After you, sweetie." Steve said.
"Thank you." she replied as she got in the bed.
He then placed the duvet covers above both of them and got close together, snuggling up with smiles.
"Don't you dare let go of me, you hear?"
"I wouldn't dream of it." he then pondered something for a moment. "By the way, because I finished inside you without any protection, what do you think will happen?"
"Oh you have nothing to worry about, those transmitted diseases we talked about a few days back don't exist in this world." she assured, "Besides...even if you wanted to, you could be a wonderful parent."
"Pffft! I wish!"
"Oh come on, I think you could be a wonderful father someday."
"You really think so?"
"Well, that would be up to you if you can do it, but promise me this. We'll make the decision together, no matter how tough it will be."
"Of course, we'll stand by each other always."
"Even when you think of one day marrying me?"
"Depends if I can find the money for two rings."
Bon Bon giggled.
"I'm sure you will..." she yawned. "...goodnight Steve."
"Goodnight...my candy mare."
They kissed one more time before they rested thier heads on the pillows and began sleeping away, safe in the knowledge that they're now lovers and nopony else could take it away and as good as his word, Steve never let go of her whilst they slept through the night and looking forward to the brighter days they would have in the years to come and beyond.
Meanwhile, Lyra had just returned to the house after her part of the night out, she was tired and walked upstairs to her bedroom. She stopped as she stood outside the couple's bedroom, she put on a genuine smile. Knowing that despite the issues, everything was alright now and that she is happy that her long time friend has someone to love, much like she was able to with a lucky stallion she pulled earlier in the night which she kept as a secret to herself for the time being.
There was no doubt that Steve would never find his way back to the human world, nor would he wish to as he seems to have what he's always wanted which was a mostly peaceful world, a well-paid job, best friends and a lover to come home to, albeit with ponies which did not matter to him. As far as he was concerned, what he had now was perfect to him and he will do everything he can to make it cherish and last for all his life is worth.
