Chapter 1: A Filthy Landlubber
"An adventa? Are ya sure?"
"Totally! Come on, it'll be fun! Maybe we'll get our cutiemarks that way!"
"Scootaloo, this better not be another one of THOSE adventures we tried last time!"
An adventure? That sounds like fun! I haven't been on a good adventure for a week! I think it's a welcome change!
It was me, Sweetiebelle, and Scootaloo sitting around a table, having lunch. Scootaloo said she saw this large ship crash into a nearby beach. Of course, somepony was bound to see but nopony said a thing. Me and Sweetie thought Scootaloo was just full of hooey at this point...
"Don't be like that guys! It'll be fun! Come on! Haven't any of you ever wanted to be a pirate?" Scootaloo put a hoof over one of her eyes, at an attempt of turning it into an eyepatch, as she 'Arrrrr'ed at us. I giggled a bit, but Sweetiebelle wasn't having any.
"If I could, I would Scootaloo, but I've gotta stay here and help Rarity today. She sprained her hoof the other day you know!" She almost squeaked during that sentence. Almost. Me and Scootaloo are having a secret bet to count how many times Sweetiebelle squeaks in a day.
Scootaloo sighed. "Fine, me and Applebloom can go, right?" Scootaloo looked at me for support.
I thought on it for a while, before finally nodding in agreement. "It'll be fun!" I said.
"It'll be fun!" Scootaloo repeated. "And you're gonna miss out!" Scootaloo laughed, and Sweetiebelle sighed, stuck her tongue out at Scootaloo, and left.
It was just me and Scootaloo now. "Come on! I'll show ya where it is!" Scootaloo grabbed me by the hoof and started off, practically dragging me with, as we galloped towards the beach.
I forgot how long it was from there to ponyville! We stopped at the beach finally, and Scootaloo had boundless energy to spare. "Well, would ya look at that! There really IS a shipwreck here!"
"HA! In your FACE Sweetiebelle!" Scootaloo did a little dance, which got me to laugh a bit. "Come on! Let's head inside!"
Suddenly, I grabbed onto Scootaloo. "Woah, are ya sure about that?" I thought for a little while. Scootaloo said that she saw the ship crash, and she said she ran straight to us when she saw it. "There still might be ponies in there!"
Scootaloo giggled. "Oh come on! They hit the shore pretty hard. Even if there ARE ponies in there, who says they are pirates? And while you're at it, who says they're conscious?"
I thought on that for a while. Scootaloo did have a point there...
I sighed, defeated. "Alright Scoot, you win. Let's go check it out!" And she smiled as she galloped ahead of me.
We ran up to the ship, and were amazed at how big it was! It was like canterlot turned into wood, and the wood pieces turned into that!
Scootaloo whistled, as she looked around and saw a hole in the side of the ship. "Hey, we can squeeze in through here!" Scootaloo did just that. As soon as she got through, she pulled me in as I went to investigate the gap in the ship.
The inside looked a lot smaller than the outside though. I didn't know much about ships, so I thought it would be as roomy as it looked on the outside. Scootaloo was already ten steps ahead of me, all the way around a corner. "Come on Applebloom! You're too slow!"
I giggled a bit, as I ran up to Scootaloo's side. "Wow, this place sure is big!" Scootaloo said, as she looked around. I agreed, this place was pretty roomy!
We were suddenly running out of light, and I shivered a bit as it got cold. Scootaloo didn't seem disturbed, as she quickly trotted through the ship's halls. "Hey, Scootaloo? Don't ya think we should be headin' back by now?" I asked, shivering a bit more as it got colder.
"Don't be such a scaredy cat!" Scootaloo said teasingly, as she stopped, having hit the end of a long hallway. "It's not like anything is here anyway!"
We turned around, and bumped into something. It was tall, and looked down on us, with a foul smell coming from its breath, which made a misty white fog reveal the outlines of his face. "Are ye' sure about that, lass?"
We backpedaled into the wall, fear stuck on our face. "Aye, there be somethin' here indeed lass!" The pony leaned in and stared us down, keeping eye contact the whole time. "And it ain't friendly..." He cackled, the ship almost shaking as he did, and before I knew it, Scootaloo was hightailing it out. I went to follow, before I was grabbed by the neck and held back.
"Where do ya' think YER goin, lassy?!" The pony held me up into the wall with his front hooves. "Ya can't leave jus' yet! I jus' met ya!" He cackled some more, as I kicked and screamed for help.
"OI! PEPPER, GET OFF THAT KID!"
Suddenly, the pony dropped me and turned back, scared. "S-Sorry cap'n..."
I saw another pony walking up to me, holding up a lamp with a dim light. "You alright there, miss?" He said softly.
His voice was gruff, and he had a beard to match. He looked old, and you could almost see the wrinkles of age under his coat. His mane was hanging out of the back of his hat. It looked like it was cut short, and tied into a secondary pony tail. Speaking of which, he didn't quite have a tail at all. All that's there is a small burn mark. He had a scratch over his left eye but it didnt seem to affect his eyesight any...
He held out his hoof to me. "Get up, then Ma'am. Yer friend 'ad left t' ship a while 'go." He chuckled a bit. Im not sure why, but it looked like it hurt for him to laugh. "She isn't t' come aboard t' vessel fer another more couple o' hours..."
I took his hoof and he pulled me upright. He took the hoof that was already in his hand and gently kissed it. My face felt warm, probably flushing red. I took my hoof away, and chuckled nervously. He chuckled as well. "Alright, then lass... Ye've got some time b'fore yer family comes aboard t' fight for yer freedom..." He scratched his beard. "Or somthin' like that..." He started trotting.
The other pony kept looking at me, with a smile on his face. That was my cue to follow the other one. After I caught up with the bearded one, he started talking again. "I'm sorry 'bout me crew mate there. 'Avn't seen a woman fer months..." He shook his head. "A couple month's longa' and I'd be th' same, ye know..."
"Excuse me mista' but... are ya'll pirates?"
The stallion looked at me, then laughed. "Ah! Ye've got me! But now ye' know too much! We've got t' throw ye off th' plank!" He started laughing, but it soon started turning into coughing.
I hesitantly patted him on the back to help him get his throat clear. He shrugged me off. "Oh, dont botha'. Years o' gunpowder 'll do that to ya'." He coughed some more, before finally getting clear. He cringed a bit. "I need a drink..." He said, as he made a sharp right into a room. I didnt even notice we were inside a ship. I almost entirely forgot.
Inside the room was a bedroom. There was a bed, some drawers, and a closet. "Everythin's bolted to th' floor. Keeps it from movin' about and trappin' someone between a comfy bed and th' hard wall." He knocked the wooden wall behind us. He made his way to his closet and opened it. Inside were two sets of clothes. One was torn apart at the ends, and the other looked brand new.
The only weird thing between the two was that one had completely different proportions than the other. He took the larger one and slipped himself into it. If anypony had questions if he was a pirate or not, that get up would certainly assure them of an answer.
"Oi, ya need somethin' as well?" He asked. I rubbed my throat. I was a little thirsty...
"I'll take that as a yes." He closed the closet and reached into the drawer. He took out two bottles, one was filled with an icky yellowish color liquid. The other looked like water. He gave me that one.
"Hey, why can't I have that bottle of juice, mista?" I asked, curious of it's contents flavor.
He laughed. "Oh, this ain't no juice fer kids, lass."
