Chapter 2: Corn and Farmers Galore
Previous ChapterI saw the red magic spread through the sky. Twilight had mastered that spell that she claimed to be studying. There was going to be a war, because we had gotten threats from the outer enemies. It wouldn't be fond seeing fighting, but I can't control what goes on. Mom screamed when she saw the red, and she quickly began packing.
We trotted quickly on the sidewalk with our belongings in the saddlebags. We had to leave Manehattan I assumed, because mom said to get on her back. I jumped on her back, and she flew off with Rumble struggling behind. He had offered to put Dinky on his back, but it wasn't really efficient to the way he flew and ran. We flew over the towering buildings and over a bridge that I didn't know the name too.
Rumble made it in front of mom, and he glided in the breeze. Mom stayed steady so I wouldn't fall. We increased altitude, and I put my body underneath the strap of mom's saddlebag. I looked down to a sight I still wasn't quite used too. The buildings seemed like small blocks, and I almost threw up before I realized we were decreasing altitude. We landed on a field of grass, at the edge of Manehattan.
"We'll have to be farmers for now", Rumble said, looking in the distance to see corn.
"The rural life, never expected to come here", Mom said, and chuckled.
I climbed off, and the grass underneath my hooves was soft. The grass in Manehattan wasn't as soft as this grass, it was all spikey.
"Come on, we have to flee", Rumble said, running towards the corn, with Dinky slightly bouncing on his back. I fell slowly behind Mom, but she was pretty fast. Rumble slid into the corn field, and he tried not to make a noise. Me and mom did the same. Then, he sprinted through the field. Some of the corn stalks whacked me in the snout, and it hurt to be honest. I couldn't admit if I was hurt, because we had other problems then a bruise.
There was finally a clearing, but there wasn't anything on the other side. There was just forest. Rumble hesitated.
"I thought there was a farm here", Rumble said. "I remember Uncle Bary's farm..."
"Don't you remember?" Mom asked. "Uncle Bary's Corn Farm was shut down four years ago because of the taxes. I'm surprised his master corn is still here."
"Can't we eat the corn?" I asked.
"Of course we can", Rumble said. "Put some in your saddlebag."
Mom picked some corn, which was a struggle because she had to rip out the root and then take the corn. But, the corn went back to it's original place, with more corn ears where mom had taken it.
"It's dark magic corn", Mom said. "I know, sounds funny. But Uncle Bary put a special soil that made the corn regrow every time some pony took it."
I didn't say anything back, but it did sound funny.
