SPLIT
Bleep! Bleep! Bleep! The alarm clock was ringing. I rolled over and tried to ignore it. Apparently, that wouldn't work.
Opening my eyes, I hit the alarm clock. I felt like crap, as was every morning. The time was.. 6:00 AM..
''Shit..'' I was late for work again. I really needed to fix that old clock so I wouldn't always wake up an hour late.
Didn't need to make myself presentable for my job (or any jobs around here, actually) so I just got up off my old mattress and ran out the door. I ran all the way to work, dodging giant heaps of trash and the occasional homeless pony. As I approached the trashed up building that I called work, my boss stepped out the door. Now I was in for trouble.
''Void, you're fired.'' He looked pissed.
''B-But, si-
''No excuses, damnit!'' I was cut off. ''This is the fourth time you've shown up late for work this week!'' ''You. Are. Fired!'' He turned around, and stomped back into the store.
''Crap, that was the second job I had lost this month..'' I muttered to myself.
It made me think of how much better East Equestria was.. better jobs.. better food.. everything better than we had over here.
Even better leaders, seeing as our President was corrupt and accepted bribes from gangs. Maybe I should try sneaking back over the wall.. But that was stupid. Last time I tried it, I almost got caught. And even if I did get over the wall, I would have to travel through a war zone. I would have to think about it.
For now, i'd just go back to my apartment. At least I lived close to my old job.
as I walked home, I noticed a lot of ponies crowded up at one store. When I approached the the crowd, I asked a mare what all the fuss was about.
''They're selling actual clean water!'' She said to me.
I wasn't so sure if that water was good, as nopony would just sell good water. But, I kept that to myself, and continued back towards my apartment. I opened the door, and turned the light on. Dirty, as always. I shut the door, and fell on my mattress. With nothing to do, I picked up the book I had found the other day and began to read it. I didn't even know what it was about, as the cover was blank.
When I opened it, I couldn't read it. Wasn't in equestrian at all, but a bunch of weird shapes. Pretty strange. I set it down on a table, and picked up another book I had found. The title read: Many times in the Marsh. Seemed pretty boring, so I didn't read that either. There just wasn't anything to do. Well, except find a new job. But I most likely wouldn't find success in that.
So, I guessed I would take a nap. I probably sleep too much, but oh well. When I woke up, it was 9:32. Didn't think I would take a 3 hour nap, but that didn't really matter. But, then I noticed I had left the electricity on while I slept.
Crap. The lights flickered for a moment, and went out. At least I had a window to let in some sun.
In East Equestria, they wouldn't have to worry about things like this.. They wouldn't need to worry about many things..
It was so better there.. It was then decided I needed to get over the wall. Wouldn't be easy in broad daylight, but I was sure I could do it.
I grabbed a small cloth bag, and put the last of my food in it. Which wasn't much, by the way. I had no weapons, but I was sure I could find some on the frontier. I used my magic to strap the bag on my side, but I felt like something was missing. Aha! It was the strange book. I put that in the bag, but left the other book behind.
It was a short walk to the wall, since I don't live a long way away from it. The concrete wall's tall wooden doors were locked shut, so that wasn't a possibility. I walked a long distance down the side of the wall, until I found a large crack in the wall. I wondered why the city guards hadn't found that yet, but there was no time for for that. I slipped through the crack, feeling what I had done should've been more difficult.
As soon as I had stepped on the the other side, everything was extremely different. No trashy urban enviroment, no beggars, but I couldn't say there was no more stench. The wind from the city was blowing in this direction.
Everything was pea-
''Hey!'' A guardspony pointed down at me from on top of the wall, yelling.
The Gates opened, and four armed guards came out, ready to attack. With no weapons, I had to think of something. I could use my magic, but I was never good at the offensive spells. I guess it would have to do. Standing my ground, I shot off a couple spells. They only hit one pony, who was knocked unconsious.
One of them hurled a spear at me, and seeing how useless my offensive spells were, I ran off into the wilderness.
I could hear the gates shut behind me as I ran down the old dirt path. After a good while of running, the path ended at a large green field.
I stopped to rest for a minute or two, and good a little bit of water before I continued on through the field. Nothing was ahead of the field except for rolling hills. It was going to take a long time to get to East Equestria..
