Prologue
Baltamere, it's not your average city, there are more thefts, murders, and rape in this town than any other. Naturally the guards had a hard time dealing with all the gangs, crimes, and all out craziness. No one felt safe, no one felt friendship, and yet, it was my home, and it always will be.
My name is Shooting Star, and like every pony in Equestria I wanted to know my destiny. I always wanted to help people, so I joined the guards, only to have my leader killed, and kicked out of the guards within 2 months. I tried my hands at being a scientist, only to have my inventions used by any pony to hurt other ponies, so I stopped that. I even tried my hands at being a doctor, but I found out all the cures I made were only given to the rich, as the companies I worked for only cared about bits. So naturally I had no cutie mark for a long time, well to be honest, I cut my cutie mark off every time I found out that the job I wanted ended up doing more harm than good. I am not a blank flank, but I do have a scar over my cutie mark and I am called damaged Flank by all my peers.
In my last few days of collage, I still had no cutie mark, I thought I would be the only pony to graduate with no true destiny, That was until it happened. As I was walking to my graduation ceremony, I saw a small filly crying at the wall. I looked around and only saw ponies ignoring her and walking away, I mean it's how ponies in Baltamere were. However I couldn't just leave her there to cry I don't know what came over me, but I did something unnatural for many Ponies here, I asked her what's wrong. She told me she needed bits to save her father, at first I thought this was her parents problem until she said her mother left on a trip and never came back. I felt sorry for the little filly and decided to do something I never thought I would ever do, I planned to rob a store.
I got my hands on a brown poncho and put it on. I thought what I was doing was crazy and yet, it felt right. I jumped to the top of a convenient stable and looked down. To say I was scared was an understatement as I would never try to steal money, especially to help some little filly I didn't even know. It kept playing in my mind, why should I do this? I mean I could easily sell something, or raise the bits in a more honest way. Heck I could even get a job again, but then I thought it would take too long, and I wanted to help NOW. I looked at my watched on my left hoof and waited. As the sun went down, some drops of rain hit my watch, I looked up to see rain clouds forming. Strange I didn't hear anything about a scheduled rain shower from the Pegasus broadcast. I couldn't let that distract me. I put my hoof down and took a few steps back. "This is crazy, this is crazy, this is crazy." I said as I charged the edge and jumped off.
It took a few hours but I soon returned to the little filly. She was still crying, I put my head overtop of hers to stop the rain from hitting her. "Don't cry little filly." I said as I dropped a bag full of bits in front of her. She looked at it with hope in her eyes and wiped the tears from her eyes, or was it water? Either way she seemed generously happy, she looked up to me and said thank you, it filled my heart with joy to know that I helped someone, and that's when it happen.
I returned home and took my poncho off, I realized I missed my graduation ceremony, but it wasn't like any pony who cared for me was there, my parents were on the other side of Equestria doing Celestia knows what. Either way, I was alone. I went to the bathroom of my one bedroom stable and splashed my face with water. That's when I saw it, my cutie mark, of a falling star. I finally knew a destiny I could do, making wishes come true for every pony. I liked that one, and it didn't come off this time.
