What Ifs and Wishes
Chapter 1
Load Full StorySilver Spoon woke to the smell of freshly baked pancakes. Her favorite. Squinting, she climbed out of her sleeping bag and looked for Diamond Tiara. She was staying with her friend until her parents came home from their business trip. They had promised to be back by her 13th birthday. Her 13th birthday! Suddenly she sat up. Today was her birthday! That meant her parents would be back this afternoon! Not that she didn't mind staying here, in the Rich's riduculously large mansion, but she did muss her parents. Her parents, who loved her no matter what. She loved them too, and was surprised to see DTs relationship with her father. They obviously cared about each other, but it seemed more because they had to than actual love.
Brushing her hair carefully, she looked at herself in the mirror. On the outside, she looked the same as always, but on the inside she felt different. She wasn't sure exactly what felt different, but something did. Taking one last look in the mirror, she braided her hair and slipped on her necklace. Finally, she put on her glasses and started downstairs. As she approached the kitchen, Silver Spoon could hear a hushed discussion. As she entered the kitchen, Diamond Tiara and her father stopped talking, but she could see the worried expressions they wore.
"Whats wrong?" She asked aftera few moments of scilence.
Diamond Tiara was quick to step in. "Nothing important. We made pancakes!"
"Mhmm, my favorite!"
As he watched the two fillies wolf down their breakfest, Filthy Rich wondered how his daughters friend would take the bad news. It was awful that such tradgedy could strike on a fillies birthday. He pondered sharing the news now, but decided to let her have her birthday. Right now, he was just glad that the filies parents had left their gift with him. Soon enough, the girls left for school.
Walking to school there was scilence. They were used to it. They both knew there was no point in speaking if there was nothing to say. Except there was something to say. Silver Spoons parents had died. The hotel they were staying at in Manehaten caught on fire. Silver Spoon would be devastated. It was stressing her out, trying to figure out how to tell her friend. Trying to think, she listened to the clip-clop, clip-clop of their hoovesteps walking down the path. Thoughts swirled around her head. Soon she could see the pink schoolhouse.
Standing under a tree were the crusaders. Perfect! She knew it wasn't good, but picking on the crusaders somehow helped her clear her own mind.
Meanwhile, Silver Spoon had thoughts of her own. She wanted to be a better pony; she wanted to be liked, and not just by DT. Her friend was nicer than ponies thought, but she had a nasty habit of being a bully when she got stressed. Silver Spoon decided that today, today she would stand up to her friend. She knew DT wasn't a bad pony, and neither was she. Today, Silver Spoon decided, she would show everypony that. Before she knew it they were at school.
As expected, Diamond Tiara strode across the feild over twords the crusaders.
"Hey Silver," she called, "Guess who's still a blankflank?"
Taking a deep breath, Silver Spoon joined her friend. "DT, stop. This has gone to far, leave them alone." She said it clear and firm, surprising everypony, including herself. The crusaders eyed eachother, not sure what to do.
The pink pony was frustrated now. Couldn't her friend understand? She needed somewhere to direct her frustration. "I thought you were my friend!"
Silver Spoon blinked. Was this what she has expected? She wasn't sure. A little shaky, she answered her friend. "I am, but you needtl stop!"
Diamond Tiara felt herself about to yell. Although she knew she would regret it immediatley, she couldn't help but blurt out what was bothering her. "Your parent's hotel burned down! They're dead!"
Scilence. Nopony said a word. Suddenly, Silver Spoon dashed away.
Choking back tears, Silver Spoon ran, as fast as she could, away from the school. She almost hoped it was all some cruel joke, but deep down she knew it wasn't. As cruel as DT could be, she would never make up something like that. Her hole body ached. She needed to get away. But where? The one place nobody would look for her was the crusader's clubhouse. So, she decided, that's where she would go. Picking up her pace, she pushed herself to run to the clubhouse. By now she couldn't see, the tears in her glasses blocking her vision. She couldn't see. She couldnt think straight either. All she knew was she had to get to the clubhouse. After what seemed like forever, she reached it. She climbed up the ramp, ran inside, and collapsed on the floor.
