It had been a while since he had heard from Princess Celestia. Not that he could blame her, of course. She had her hooves full with plenty of things and he doubted she had any time to merely converse with him. But, yet again, he was her star student. The one who had completed many a new spell and saved the day on numerous occasions. He sighed and levitated his hat off of his head as sweat started to soak into it. He had been working on a new project for weeks now, but wasn't gaining any ground.
"From one to another, another to one, a mark of one's destiny singled out alone fulfilled..." He muttered to himself, wiping his forehead with his hoof. Growling, he closed his journal and started pacing the room. The clip-clop of his hooves didn't seem to calm him down and his cape was getting too hot to wear.
He would have sworn out loud if the door hadn't knocked. His heart almost leapt out of his chest.
Finally! He thought gleefully. Something to get my mind off of my dumb mistake!
Upon opening it using magic, he found a sweaty, out-of-breath, pegasus pony carrying a sealed envelope in his mouth.
"Mwessge fruhm duh Prinshesh," he mumbled through the letter.
"Huh?"
The mailpony gently held out the envelope for him to take and he did so, surrounding it with a light green aura.
"Message from the Princess," The mailpony repeated, slipping a clipboard out of his saddlebag. He quickly signed it and slammed the door in the mailpony's face.
No time for manners. He reassured himself as he glanced back towards the door.
Slowly, he opened the letter and read the contents.
My Dearest Starswirl, he read aloud. I know that it has been a while since my last letter as I have been extremely busy with a matter that I now need your help on. You may have recently heard of a rumor spreading throughout the land of a trio of sirens. While at first they seemed pleasant and good-willed, they have proven to be a great source of misery amongst the ponies living by the ocean. Not much is known about them yet, but I would like you, my star student, to investigate. Report back to me your findings. Sincerely, Princess Celestia.
