It was a quiet day in Ponyville. There was barely a sound to break the golden silence that was the town. The sun was shining brightly and I was on my way to get some flowers for a friend.
Fluttershy loves posies and daisies; I was getting her some just to brighten up her day. I could breathe in the fresh smell of apples being baked into pies, and I really enjoyed my quiet stroll despite being the daredevil I normally am. I went to Junebug’s flower cart and asked her for some posies and daisies. She simply smiled and gave them to me for about 4 bits a bouquet. I smelled the flowers and they smelled like a nice breeze through a meadow; sweet and relaxing yet still potent. I waved goodbye and flew over to Fluttershy’s cottage.
I walked up to the door and knocked. After a while Fluttershy opened it slightly and peeked out. Upon seeing it was her friend she opened it and invited me in with a smile.
"Hello Rainbow Dash! It's so nice seeing you out today, how are you doing? Fluttershy said.
"I feel amazing Fluttershy! I brought something for you." I pulled out the bouquet. Fluttershy gasped.
"Oh my gosh Rainbow, they're beautiful! Thank you so much.” I was so happy to see a smile on her bright, yellow face. I am more of a loyal pony, but the flowers were an act of generosity, and it was just to see her smile. Nothing makes me happier than being loyal and seeing my friends have a good time. I decided to head over to Pinkie Pies place next since it was the closest.
I cantered over to Sugarcube Corner, gave the door a knock, and waited for her to open it. The door opened and pinkie stuck her head out. She had no idea i was waiting for her on the roof.
"Surprise!" I shouted as i jumped in front of her.
"Ooh i love surprises! What are we celebrating? Is it someone’s birthday? Did the Wonderbolts talk to you? Are you a Wonderbolt now and I didn’t hear about it? Did you-"
"Whoa Pinkie, calm down. I'm just here to give you a little present i made you" I proceeded to hand her the strawberry cake i baked earlier.
"Wow Rainbow! I love strawberry cake! Thanks a lot!" Her smile was all I needed to confirm she was happy. I said goodbye and quickly flew off into the clear blue skies. I felt like doing something for my other friends Applejack and Rarity, so I decided to buy Rarity some things. I went to a fabric store and bought Rarity 3 rolls of red fabric, 2 rolls of Pink and blue, and 5 rolls of Purple and green. Altogether it cost me about 100 bits, but it was bits well spent.
I trotted over to Rarity’s house and gave her door a nice loud bump; she opened it with poise and looked at me.
“Rainbow Dash, please knock more politely next time. Now what do you need?” I just gave her the bags of fabric and said,
“This is for you Rarity. It cost me about 100 bits but it was worth it for you.”
“Oh Rainbow Dash, this is so generous, I… I don’t know what to say.”
“A thank you is all I need.”
“You are so nice today Rainbow Dash, why is that?”
“I just felt like giving my friends something to smile about. I know that it is mostly Pinkie’s job to make ponies smile, but I just wanted to do this for you. Now I have to go help AJ, see you later!”
“Farewell Rainbow Dash!”
I glided gracefully over to Sweet Apple Acres to give AJ a quick visit. I am pretty well known for noticing trouble, and Applejack needed some help. She was drowsy all day and her apples barely fell off the tree, so I flew in and knocked the apples off for her. Applejack saw me doing this and asked,
“Howdy Rainbow, how are you today?” I stopped for a moment and smiled at her, and then I said,
“I saw you drooping a bit to the sidelines and figured you could use some help.”
“Ah was not drooping to the sidelines thank you very much!”
“Whatever AJ”
“What do you want Rainbow Dash?”
“Nothing, I just want to help out my friends!”
“Why are ya doing this again?”
“I just want to make sure that everypony starts their days with a positive attitude.”
Then I knocked off the rest of the apples and flew away, Applejack let out a resounding
“Thanks you Rainbow! I’ll try to pay it back as soon as possible!” and I continued into the skies.
I helped out Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Applejack, so all that was left was Twilight. I rode a cloud to her library, because I didn’t feel like using energy to get there. The trip was rather boring and uneventful. When I arrived, I kicked the cloud away, landed, and knocked on Twilight’s door. I knocked several times but she didn’t answer. I was wondering whether she was home or not. I knocked again, still no answer. Finally I got so tired of waiting that I attempted to break her door down. Right as I was about to kick the door, Twilight finally opened the door and I accidently bucked her instead.
”Ohmygosh! Twilight, are you okay!? I am so sorry, that blow was not intended for you! It was intended for… your door.” I yelled. Twilight got up slowly. She looked fine but I wasn’t sure.
“It’s alright Rainbow Dash; I know you didn’t mean to hurt me, you just tried to… break down my door.” We both chuckled a bit and then Twilight invited me in.
As I entered I felt a shred of guilt for trying to break down her door in the first place. Why would anypony break down the door if the owner wasn’t home? Twilight claimed to be fine, but judging by her limp, she was not as fine as she claimed to be. I was going to ask her about it, but my mouth didn’t work the way I thought. I ended up saying
“So, what were you doing for so long that kept you from coming to the door?” Twilight scowled a bit and then told me,
“I was busy practicing a mind-reading spell! It involved a large amount of focus, and your ruckus certainly did not help that. I was trying to focus but you wouldn’t stop banging, so I eventually decided to open the door for you, and that was when you accidentally charged into me.” I just frowned and replied
“Sorry about that.”
“It’s alright; it just hurts a little is all.”
“Well, to make up for it, can I help you with this new spell?”
“What? Really? You want to assist me in learning a new spell?”
“Yeah, to make up for the… “Damage” I caused.”
“Hmm, alright! I’ll let you help me.”
“Yeah! Thank you so much Twilight!”
Twilight brought out her spell book with the mind reading spell in it. I read the context and was sure to play my part of the spell. I just need to focus on thinking about something and then Twilight uses her spell to find out what it was that I thought of. It seemed pretty simple to me, but it was harder than it looked. I stood still, thinking hard about a many great things. Meanwhile, Twilight was lighting up her horn to attempt the spell.
The magic must’ve been really difficult because Twilight couldn’t activate the spell. I sat on a chair with my eyes half-open; I was starting to fall asleep. I tried keeping myself awake in every way I could while Twilight lit up her horn to use the spell. It was clearly taking a while, and just when I felt like leaving, Twilight read my mind and told me,
“You were thinking of leaving?” I nodded and said,
“Yes, I was, because you were taking forever to activate the spell. Now try it again, I want to see if you’ll do it a bit faster this time.”
Twilight lit up her horn and read my mind again.
“Why are you thinking about punching me in the face?” My eyes widened open and I said,
“Uh… I… I’m just a little bored and it is because of you, to be honest, punching you would be more entertaining than this.” Twilight scowled yet again.
“Rainbow Dash, you need new hobbies.” I just brushed it off and said,
“Whatever, It’s not like it matters much.” Then Twilight did it one more time, but this time it hurt; I heard ringing in my ears, my head began throbbing in pain, I grabbed my forehead, yelled in agony and fell to the floor in pain. Twilight looked at me with horror and shouted,
“Rainbow Dash, are you okay? Rainbow Dash? Speak to me Rainbow Dash!” But I couldn’t respond, the pain was too much. I could barely stand it, and all the shouting wasn’t helping.
Next thing I see is Twilight running out the door toward the Ponyville hospital. Within the blink of an eye nurse Redheart came and took me to the Ponyville hospital.
Sirens were wailing and ponies all around were speaking indistinctly about the current events that just took place. As I was being taken away, I saw all of my friends following the truck on hoof and wing. I smiled at them and waved. They waved back as they continued in pursuit of the ambulance.
Eventually it reached its destination and I was brought to an emergency room on floor 2. It was room 35-A. I was put in a not-so comfy hospital bed. The room was a bright white on the walls and ceiling, and the floor had a checkered gray and blue pattern. The room was as typical as it gets regarding hospitals. My bed was as white as the walls. I coughed violently into my elbow. I looked at the sheets and coughed again. When I opened my eyes my fur and the previously white sheets were covered in a crimson liquid.
“Great I’m coughing up blood now.”
Just then the doctors rushed in and connected me to a machine that made some weird beeping noises. The doctors checked and said I was in critical condition. Just what did that spell do to me? I had no time to think, and I was in too much pain to think about thinking. Suddenly, my eyesight vanished and I couldn’t breath. The machine that scanned me let out a loud long beep and I just stopped hearing, seeing, or feeling anything. Suddenly I felt a shock, and then another, and another. The shocks brought me back to consciousness and I was breathing again. My heart rate was still soaring but my body felt the same as it always did. Did I just die and get resurrected?
The doctors proceeded to operate on me after they gave me a bodily numbing agent, and the next thing I knew, I was alone in the hospital bed. I looked around but I didn’t see anypony there. I felt normal again I coughed a bit and relaxed as I saw there was no more blood. I decided to lay back down to rest and then Twilight came in. The look on her face made it obvious she had been crying.
“Oh, Rainbow Dash, I am so sorry I did this to you! I had no idea that the spell could potentially harm the mind that is read. I am so sorry!” She burst into tears again and started sobbing into my shoulder. I gently patted her head and said,
“I’ll be fine Twilight, no need to worry about me, my head just hurts a bit is all. Besides, I’ve been through way worse!” Twilight nodded and smiled. Then a doctor came in and said,
“Come along now Twilight, Rainbow Dash needs her rest.” Then Twilight nodded again, kissed my forehead, and left.
When I went back to sleep, I had a dream. I was walking through Ponyville like I did earlier today, but this time, everypony was staring at me, some were pointing and laughing at me, and when I tried visiting Fluttershy, she scowled at me and slammed the door shut. I hear laughter on the other side of the door. Twilight used her magic to pour water on me. Everypony cracked up about it too! Next thing I new, there was blood on my hooves and I didn’t know what happened, but one I think I did know was somepony was dead. I ended up in my house, cradling my tail and crying. Everypony I saw fell dead at the sight of me and I had no idea why!
Completely soaked in sweat, I shot up in bed. It was all a dream, I am still alive, nopony was dead, and my friends still cared about me. I was just alone in the hospital bed once again. I heard a knock on the door and Pinkie Pie lingered in
“Dashie, are you okay? You had us all so worried!” I smiled and said,
“I’m fine Pinkie, no need to worry.” Pinkie pulled out a cake she brought me. She and I enjoyed a nice, but plain, vanilla cake together. Afterwards, Pinkie Pie left, but for a split second, I could’ve sworn I heard her laugh at me. It must have been nothing, but it sounded so real.
