Princess Celestia called Twilight Sparkle and her five closest friends to Canterlot. The matter was urgent: someone only known as "the Redactor" sent the Princess a letter. The Redactor promised that Equestria will be destroyed. No piece of land will remain. None of it and its habitants will remain "except in the memories of the six."

This was their job: to stop the Redactor once and for all.
