A Simple Dilemma From a Not So Simple Guy
Shafts of sunlight stroke softly at the bark of Twilight's library. The rays of the celestial body rose upward and finally poured into the bedroom of Twilight and Spike. The two were fast asleep, but opened their eyes when they were greeted by the warm glow of the sun on their foreheads.
"Morning already?" Spike yawned.
"Yep. Time to wake up." Twilight yawned in reply as she wiggled out from under the sheets.
"Good, because I'm hungry! What's for breakfast?" Spike questioned as he got out of his basket.
Twilight opened her mouth to reply when suddenly a giggling sound whispered softly in her ear. She looked around to find the source, but it had seemed to have come from nowhere.
"Spike, did you hear that?" Twilight asked.
"Yeah, that's my stomach growling. It hasn't had any food in it since…well, dinner time. Hey, maybe we should have dinner right now instead of breakfast!" Spike stated happily.
"Oh, Spike." Twilight giggled. "Breakfast is the most important meal of the da…"
Suddenly, another giggling sound entered Twilight's ear, causing her to cease her talking.
"Twilight, are you okay?" Spike questioned once he noticed her pause.
"Yeah, Spike. I'm okay. Just…hearing things. Come on, let's go get breakfast!" Twilight smiled.
"Awesome!" Spike grinned as he quickly sped toward the steps.
"Careful, Spike! Not so fast!" Twilight shouted as Spike ran down the steps.
"Speak up, Twilight!" Spike replied as he ran downstairs. "I couldn't hear you since I'm runni…gah!"
Suddenly, Spike tripped over his own feet and tumbled down the steps. He then tumbled all the way down to the bottom floor until he reached it with a soft thud.
"Well, that's one way to get down." Spike spoke through clenched teeth as he rubbed his head softly.
Just then, A sudden roar of laughter erupted around Spike and into his ears, causing him to look around the room wildly.
"Who laughed?!" Spike shouted in anger.
"Spike, are you okay?" Twilight shouted from upstairs as she slowly trotted into view.
"Twilight, why did you laugh at me?" Spike snapped at her.
"Laugh at you? I didn't laugh at you!" Twilight replied with a raise of her eyebrow.
"Well someone did." Spike grunted as he dusted himself off.
"You're probably just imagining things, Spike." Twilight suggested.
"That could be it. Either way, I'll be waiting." Spike said.
"Waiting? For what?" Twilight questioned.
"For you to make breakfast of course!" Spike answered.
Twilight looked at Spike with a slightly angered glance, causing a small and mysterious chuckle to whisper in her ear.
"I thought that it was your turn to make the breakfast today." Twilight spoke up, ignoring the disembodied chuckle.
"Since when did we start taking turns?" Spike asked.
"Since you started slacking off on making breakfast!" Twilight snapped.
Suddenly, a wave of disembodied ooh's came out of thin air and ringed in Twilight and Spike's ears.
"You tell him, sister!" A female voice spoke.
"That's showing him!" A male voice shouted.
Twilight and Spike looked around in a frenzy to see where the voices were coming from, but it seemed that the sounds that were invading them had no owner.
"Where are they coming from?!" Twilight shouted.
"You're hearing them too?! I thought I was the only one! Whew, I'm not going crazy after all." Spike smiled.
"Good one, Spike!" A male voice laughed.
"Thanks! I guess." Spike replied.
"We got to do something about this." Twilight whispered as she trotted over to Spike's ear.
"Ignore them, Twilight. They'll go away eventually." Spike whispered in her ear, "Just act natural. Here, I'll cook the food while you try to…"
"Keep them company?" Twilight whispered.
"Exactly!" Spike grinned.
Twilight nodded in acceptance at Spike's plan and watched silently as he entered the kitchen and grab certain items from the cabinets. Twilight then directed her attention to the center of the room where she eyed it happily.
"That looks like a good spot to do some entertainment." Twilight whispered to herself.
So, with a gallop of her hooves, Twilight slowly trotted over to the center of the room where the table stood. She then got on top of the table and glanced at her surroundings.
"Okay, I know you guys are still here. So, I got something for you all." Twilight sighed.
"What?" The disembodied audience shouted.
"It's…something humorous." Twilight explained as she lowered her ears down to block out the sudden shouting.
"Tell us!" The audience boomed.
"Um, okay then." Twilight whispered as she looked around aimlessly, "What did the wind current say when it ate a piece of cheese?"
"What?" The audience questioned with anticipation in their tone.
"Swiss!" Twilight giggled.
A sudden veil of silence fell on the library as Twilight's giggling ceased and her face began to turn red with embarrassment.
"Get it? Because…wind makes a sorta swishing sound? Swish? Swiss?" Twilight explained.
"Get off the stage!" The voice of a girl shouted.
"I beg your pardon? This is my home! I can be in any location of this house for as long as I want to!" Twilight snapped.
"You stink!" A man booed.
"You don't know that." Twilight objected.
Suddenly, an entire roomful of boo's and shouts entered Twilight's ears, causing her to plug them up with her front hooves.
"Spike, where's that food you said you would make! The least we can do now is eat!"
"Right here, Twilight!" Spike spoke as he came into the room and lifted a plate of gems and a plate of hay.
"Perfect! Just sit them down right here on the table." Twilight spoke over the boo's as she got off the table.
"What did you do to make them so mad?" Spike shouted as he placed the plates down on the table.
"I told them a pun!" Twilight sighed loudly as she started eating away at her hay.
"Oh no! They'll be booing forever!" Spike cried as he looked at his gems with fear in his eyes.
Suddenly, as if on cue, the booing had stopped. Spike then looked around slowly as he picked up a gem and munched it awkwardly, expecting a voice to react. He then slowly started waving his arms around frantically, wondering if he might just get a small chuckle from it.
"Well, looks like the booing had stopped. I wonder why." Twilight shrugged as she levitated a piece of hay toward her mouth.
"I might be able to answer that question for you, Princess." A familiar voice spoke.
Suddenly, a puff of smoke appeared before Twilight and Spike. The smoke then died down quickly to reveal none other than Discord himself.
"Discord, we should of known you were behind this." Spike growled as he put down a gem.
"What? Who? Me? Why, that is absurd…but also true." Discord chuckled.
"So it was you!" Twilight shouted, "Why did you do that to us?"
"You don't remember?," Discord questioned with a hint of sarcastic shock. "Why, you didn't give me a glass of water when I told you to, remember?"
"That's what all this was about?," Twilight yelled. "All because of a glass of water? Spike wasn't even there when you asked for it. Why did you have to torture him too?"
A long moment of silence followed as Discord scratched himself behind his head followed by a shrug of his shoulders.
"Because…he's…an innocent bystander?," Discord blushed. "Okay, fine. The truth is that I had this new powder I made up that makes others have their own audience. It seemed so hilarious, that I just had to try it on somepony. The glass of water thing was just, how you say, only half full!
"So all of this was just so you could test out one of your new pranks?" Spike asked angrily.
"Yep! Isn't it beautiful?" Discord laughed as he made a handful of the powder appear in his hand.
"Yes, it certainly is, Discord." Twilight smirked as she blew at the powder, causing it to spread all over Discord's face.
"Noo! Look at what you've done! It'll take an entire week for the effects to wear off!" Discord cried.
Suddenly, Discord's ears perked up in surprise as if he was hearing something. He then bit down on his claw as he continued to have his ears perked in attention.
"Do you guys hear that?" Discord questioned with a look of fear in his eyes.
"Nnnope!" Spike grinned as he bit down on a gem.
"Ah! I gotta get out of here!" Discord shouted as he disappeared in a puff of smoke.
"Well, that took care of things." Twilight coughed as the smoke died down.
"You said it. I could not stand that audience! They were quite annoying." Spike laughed.
"Quite. Especially that little girl." Twilight giggled.
"That was mean to say!" A disembodied, girlish voice spoke.
"Oh no!," Spike spoke. "Twilight, you don't think the effects…"
"Will last a week with us too? Indubitably, Spike. Indubitably." Twilight whined as they were bombarded by the laughs of the audience.
