Sinking Feeling
Sinking Feeling Part 1
Load Full StoryRarity inhaled. Letting the fragrance of the Fillydelphia docks flood her nostrils. She exhaled, letting out a soft sigh, then opened her eyes to see the colossal ship, probably as big as Titanic itself, floated elegantly near the well-constructed docks. The prodigious beast nearly intimidated her as she found the nearest boarding station, and did as the title implied.
She had taken this vacation alone this time. Her constant dress work, generosity, and Equestria-saving finally paid off as she would spend the week aboard the S.S Starling cruise ship. Larger than life was finely printed on the side under the name and it didn't lie. Once aboard, she showed her ticket to the ticket master, who gave it a quick glance. He went ahead and relieved her of her duties of carrying the ticket and bestowed upon her a shiny golden key card that allowed her to the best sections of the ship and a darling suite with lavender silk sheets for the bed, and soft towels for the nonchalantly decorated bathing area.
After tucking away the gold key card, she decided to navigate to her temporary living quarters. It was remarkably easy! The room number and hallway was printed on the back of the card to the top left, and framed electronic maps were promptly placed in nearby locations directing her to said areas. She made it to the front of the lacquered wood door. It had a door handle with a locking mechanism that had a bright red light. She slid her key card through the scanner, causing the light to change to a satisfied lime green before the sound of the tumblers turning was made apparent. She opened the door with her mouth, not wanting to mar the door handle with her magic due to the fact that her telekinesis tends to have a tighter grip when she was excited.
The door smelled of prim roses, which assaulted her senses in all the right ways. The room had a dull natural light shining on it from the top of the windows where the lavender curtains didn't cover the window. The room had lacquered spruce wood furniture and the lavatory that she expected to see. She grinned widely and flopped onto the queen sized bed. She let out a gracious sigh and nodded off. Not even fifteen minutes later, she felt a slight jerk. She hopped off the bed and opened the curtains. The ship was slowly, but surely, setting sail.
Starting at that point, she was going to be in Seaddle by the end of the week. She gave a silent cheer and ordered in room service. A bottle of fine Red Bordeaux and Paris-Brest would be her next meal. She sat in a chair and began to read, waiting for her meal to get to it's desired destination. A tap on the door startled her. She trotted to the door and opened it up to find a young stallion dressed in a tuxedo pushing a cart.
He gave a charming smile "Bonjour Mademoiselle!" The foreign stallion chimed. Giving her what she requested and a wink before exiting the room. Rarity giggled at the thought of being with a french pony and quickly shrugged it off. She dove into her food, the Bordeaux running down her throat warmed her hearth and the cream from the Paris-Brest topped it off. After a finishing, she continued to read her book before realizing that the sun had set. A yawn escaped Rarity as she glared the moon. She did her nightly routine, which involved showering, brushing her hair, applying her standard creams and pile driving her bed.
Her eyes shot open as another jerk made itself apparent. This one was rather violent and was accompanied by metal scraping against something. She was about to go back to sleep when she heard ponies voices echo down the halls, telling everypony to get up. They said something else but the door muffled the voice. She shot up, wiped the make up from her face, and walked to the door before stopping abruptly at the sudden realization that her room was tilted ever so slightly to the right. Unnerved by this, she swung the door open and saw the hallways lit brightly and ponies being assorted into lines. She suddenly felt the hoof of somepony behind her. She swiveled around to find a stallion with concerned and alert eyes decorated with heavy bags.
"Excuse me miss, but could you fall in line with the others? The ship's hull is heavily damaged by an underwater ridge that we came to close to and we are evac'ing everyone." He said.
Rarity nodded and fell to the back of the line. The thought of the ship sinking flooded her mind. Anxiety pressed itself against her chest, making it slightly harder to breath. She ignored it for now, the worst thing she could do at the moment was flip her lid. She followed the group of ponies and made it halfway through the hallway before the stallion from before began to scream. Rarity glanced back to find the stallion being dragged under murky water surging from the staircase that led to a lower floor level.
Rarity's breath quickened. A nervous laugh broke out from the pit of her stomach. She looked at the line of mares and stallions, who were semi-oblivious to the dangers of the water.
"Hey!" She yelled. "We need to move!"
This outburst caused some of the ponies to glance back at her. Their horrified looks only proved they saw the water that rushed into the hallway. Chaos flooded the hallways more than the water did. Ponies pushing and shoving each other to get to the staircase faster. Rarity gritted her teeth before she inhaled. She slowly look down as to think of a solution to her dilemma here, but realized something else entirely.
The hallway, which was still filling with water steadily, was tilting to the right.
