Tex never thought she could have done it. Truly was usually so nice to him, but then he saw how cruel she treated ponies, always bossing them around. He just couldn't bear to see her be so mean to so many innocent ponies. He had to break it to her, and when he did, she went into a fit of rage. They broke up the next day.
Next was Cherry Jubilee, who was a bit better, though a bit boastful. But even though they were very good friends, he didn't feel in love. Not yet. Cherries was always bragging about how great her cherries were, and how horrible apples were. He wanted her to be happy, and he kind of liked apples.
Now, he wondered if he will ever find love again.

"Here ya go, Surprise!" Fizzy smiled, levitating the root beer float over to Surprise.
"Thanks, Fizz!" Surprise smiled, taking a sip.
"You're... welcome..." Fizzy said, staring at somepony.
A pink maned stallion with rippling muscles stood at the counter, trotting towards Fizzy. He looked at her, smiling warmly.
"Hi Salty.... you look muscular today..." Fizzy said dreamily. Most ponies knew she had a huge crush on the sailor pony. They might even get married!
"Heya Fizz! Ya seem like you wanna say somethin'." Salty pointed out.
"Uh.... yes.... can I get you something, hottie.... I mean Salty!" Fizzy stammered, her face growing redder and redder. Surprise giggled at the love struck mare.
She wished she could have a special somepony. Fizzy had Salty. Tornado had Twilight. Why didn't love ever find her?
Sure, she had Danny, a shoulder to lean on in times of trouble, but she wasn't in love with him. He was just a friend. Plus, somepony else seemed to have a crush on him.
She sat down at the counter, watching Fizzy's antics, when a stallion walked through the door.
He wasn't too muscular, but he had a sort of powerful aura about him. His yellow coat was dirty, and a cowboy hat sat atop his messy blue and orange mane. His cutie mark was 2 cacti. He seemed sad and depressed, like somepony had hurt him.
He trotted up to the counter, and pulled his hat down over his eyes when he saw Truly at a nearby table. She gave him a dirty look.
"Can I get you anything to drink? Scoops asked, coming up to the counter.
The stallion nodded. He certainly is quiet, Surprise thought. And he's kinda cute, she giggled.
"Hi! What's your name?" Surprise smiled at the stallion.
"It's Tex. Ah reckon you've heard of me?" he smiled shyly, becoming less nervous of Truly's leering eyes. Surprise surmised that she was the pony that had hurt him.
"No, and I'm no friend of that stuck up Truly either!" Surprise reassured.
"That's always good to hear!" Tex seemed to be getting more comfortable.
"My name is Surprise Song, but call me Surprise!" Surprise smiled.
"Well, what do you want?" Scoops said impatiently.
"Oh, right!" Tex laughed. "I'd like a Surprise! I mean, shake!" he said embarrassedly. Surprise giggled.
The two ponies found a table far enough away from Truly, and they sipped their drinks, looking at each other.
"So.... do you have a girlfriend?" Surprise asked.
"Sadly, no." Tex replied sadly, looking back at Truly.
"Say, do you.... wanna be my friend?" Surprise asked worriedly.
"Sure. I'm goin' through some tough times." Tex smiled. But there was a sadness in his eyes.
"So, I see you keep looking back at Truly. You had a.... history with her?" Surprise asked, genuine concern showing in her voice.
"Yah, ah didn't like how she treated everypony. You know." Tex said sadly. "When I broke up with 'er, she turned cold. Ah tried again, but no luck."
Surprise laid a hoof on his hoof, smiling at him.
"It's ok. You'll find love soon, I know it!" she reassured. Tex smiled. Then he leaned in and kissed her.
"Oh, sorry!" Tex said, pulling away quickly. "Ah just...."
"It's ok. I really didn't mind." Surprise consoled him. She smiled.
This was the beginning of a long story, with lots of bumps along the way. But they would see it through.
Tex trotted across the long countryside. Salty trotted up to him.
"Do you have a crush on somepony?" Salty asked, winking.
"Uh.... so do you!" Tex retorted.
"Hey, Tex! Waddya say we go play some pranks!" Surprise's voice called out to Tex.
"Hey, Surprise!" Tex called out as Surprise flew up to him.
"So, you wanna go prank somepony? We could go to the Satin Slipper!" Surprise suggested.
"Sure, jus' lemme put my rope at home!" Tex smiled. Surprise grabbed the rope and hoofed it over to Salty.
"He'll take it back! C'mon, let's go!" Surprise rushed Tex.
"Woah, now! Calm down!" Tex smiled, digging his hooves into the ground to keep her from completely dragging him away.
The two ponies trotted to the Sweet Shoppe. They saw a white pony with a red mane standing at the counter. She had on a red dress and it was very, very poofy.
"Oh no, not Truly!" Tex whimpered, pulling his hat down over his eyes again.
"Why, hello, Surprise." Truly said without much emotion. "Who's that stallion next to ya?"
"Nopony! Nopony whatsoever!" Surprise said.
"That's not nopony! That's mah ex boyfriend!" Truly shouted angrily. "Ya can't steal him like that!"
"I didn't steal him!" Surprise shouted. "You can't steal ponies! And I know for a fact that's not your cow pony hat!"
"Whatevah! Ah hope you two break up!" Truly said angrily.
"I hope we never do!" Tex whispered to Surprise.
Fizzy's head appeared from behind the counter. She looked around, panicked.
"You're so brave!" Fizzy said, coming up to the two.
"Ah know, ah know!" Tex smiled, winking. He liked to take credit for everything.
"Hey, I did most of it!" Surprise smiled. "Now, let's get some ice cream!"
