What Happens on Nightmare Night?: A Early Halloween Short Story
It was Nightmare Night, and all the filly's with their parents were in Ponyville getting candy. The Mane Six were in their costumes, ready to celebrate this event. Rainbow Dash flew by the others, feeling happy about the event.
"Rainbow Dash!" Twilight shouted. "Can you please slow down so we can catch up with you?"
"I'm too excited, Twilight!" Rainbow Dash said. "Tonight's the 1ST ever costume contest! I'm going as a vampire!"
Rarity scoffed.
"Please, Rainbow Dash," she said. "You were a vampire last year!"
"It's just that I'm bringing this costume back for the contest, nothing that you'd bother to be in."
Rarity shot towards her.
"Hey! Other ponies like me could join this contest!" Rarity said, before Twilight interrupted them.
"Girls! Let's not start any fights here." she said.
Rainbow Dash looked towards Twilight, then she flew over to her. Twilight knew her friends could get into fights sometimes, but she always tried not to let that happen. Twilight especially knew Rainbow Dash sometimes, always trying to be cool and all. Rainbow Dash would try her best to be nice.
"Sorry, Twilight. I guess I got to much into this stuff." she apologized.
Suddenly, Applejack, who was dressed as a scarecrow, noticed something strange.
"Uh, Twilight?" she said.
"Yes, Applejack?"
"Have ya' ever noticed something.....strange?"
"I don't know what you mean, Applejack." Twilight said, confused.
"Where's Pinkie?"
The ponies looked, and couldn't see Pinkie anywhere.
"W-W-Where did she go?" Fluttershy, dressed up as a bunny, said.
"I don't know, Fluttershy," Twilight said. "She might be around here somewhere."
Twilight galloped around, searching for Pinkie. But, she couldn't find her. Twilight, nervous about where she was, told the gang to search the area. It was sure unusual that one of the Mane Six could disappear. Rainbow Dash searched inside the tent of the costume contest, Applejack looked around the apple area, Rarity looked inside a stage, while Fluttershy, the most scared one out of the gang, waited for Pinkie to return. Though, no one could find her.
"It's useless!" Rainbow Dash said. "We can't find her anywhere!"
Suddenly, Rainbow Dash was alerted by the costume contest. On the speakers a voice spoke.
"Attention!" the voice shouted. "All ponies wearing costumes go to the tent immediately, or you'll be disqualified."
Rainbow Dash shot off right when the voice finished.
"Rainbow Dash, where are you going?!" Twilight said.
"I have to get in, Twilight!" she said. "I don't want to be left out!"
Twilight grunted, and went on. Twilight instructed the rest of the gang, still in their costumes.
"Since Rainbow Dash left for the contest, we'll have to search for Pinkie." she announced.
"But, Twilight!" Applejack said. "Wouldn't Rainbow know we'd be here?"
"She'll have to do the contest while we're gone." Twilight said.
Twilight had a bad feeling about this. She'd never in her whole life, had one of her friends go missing. If she had to search all over Ponyville, then she had to do what's right. After telling the gang where to search, she left as quick as she could, leaving the other's to search all over Ponyville for Pinkie Pie. If this was to go wrong, it would be chaos. While Applejack and Rarity left, Fluttershy covered herself up behind a table. Fluttershy was scared to death of things Nightmare Night related. Then, suddenly, a voice called to Fluttershy in a voice that sounded familiar.
".......Fluttershy......"
"W-Who's t-there?" Fluttershy questioned the mysterious voice.
"Come here, Fluttershy," it said. "I've got something to show you."
Of course, Fluttershy listened to the voice.
"O-O-O.K?" she said.
Fluttershy walked towards a area with carnival music playing in the background. She was scared at first, then she got used to the music and decided to hum it. Then, a figure came out from the dark, grinning. He eventually came towards her, and used magic to give her an apple.
"Eat it." he said.
Fluttershy didn't know if she should have ate it or not. Then, the mysterious colt talked.
"Fluttershy, isn't it?" he questioned.
The Pegasus nodded.
"I've got something to tell you, Fluttershy." he said.
Then, out of nowhere, a projector appeared on a table. Turning it on, he started a movie.
"Fluttershy," he began. "You're friends you have are nice, but they make you think of that."
On the screen, several ponies laughing and giggling around a pony. It then started to resemble Fluttershy, and the ponies turned into her friends. Shocked, Fluttershy began to cry. The colt calmed her down.
"Don't worry," he said. "I'll be nice."
Then, he gave her the apple, and told her something.
"Fluttershy, if you eat this apple, you'll be towering over you're friends," he said. "And you'll be the pony who laughs."
Fluttershy then held the apple for a minute, then rejected. The colt gasped.
"What is it?" he said.
"I won't agree on being mean to my friends." she said, angering the colt even more.
"They'll make fun of you, you'll be the laughing stock!"
"Never!" she said.
Then, Fluttershy pushed the colt away from her, sending him towards an electrical spark.
"GAH!!!!!!" he screamed.
She ran as fast as she could, going past corners of pictures of her. She knew she couldn't trust him. It wasn't right. Then, she hit a dead end. Scared, she tried to escape, but she was trapped. Then, the colt came back. He was bruised very badly.
"....Heh.....heh......." he laughed.
She gasped at the injured colt.
"..Y-You thought that could kill m-me?" he said. "NEVER!"
She couldn't escape. The wall's were towering over her. She then felt sick.
"Now, because of you're action's," he started. "YOU MUST DIE!"
He hit a switch, which made the wall's close in. Fluttershy tried to escape, but she couldn't.
"HELP!" she screamed in fright.
Then, the walls were on her wing, crushing half of it. She squealed in pain, but that couldn't help her. In her final second, she breathed one more breath.
Sorry, friends. I'm sorry, she thought, before she was crushed by the walls.
The colt laughed an evil laugh as the walls moved away, revealing a crushed Fluttershy. She was dead. As he walked off, he said,
"You couldn't help it, did you?"

In the tent of the costume contest, Rainbow Dash couldn't wait. She was already excited to win. She was next in line, until a voice talked behind her.
"Are you ready to compete?" a colt said.
"Yea!" she said.
She was writing her name in, until the colt spoke again.
"Do you want to win?" he said.
"Um...yes?" she said.
The colt took her into a room. When she sat down, she was given a pill. The colt told her about it.
"Eat this pill, it'll help you out." he said.
"O.K?" she said, grabbing the pill.
She ate the pill, and felt nothing. He let her go, and she flew back into the area.
"The Nightmare Night's 1ST costume contest will start in five minutes!" the voice on the speaker said.
Rainbow Dash gasped, and flew behind the stage and waited. After one minute passed, she thought about the pill she was given by that colt. Why did he give it to her? She didn't know. She just liked winning. When Rainbow Dash won something, she was proud. But, her friends aren't here right now. They were finding Pinkie Pie. Rainbow Dash was concerned about Pinkie. She wondered if she was okay or not. She was her friend, and she liked doing prank's with her. Eventually, the costume contest was starting in one minute. She was excited about this contest. When the contest started, she flew in line.
"Up next: Derpy!" the announcer said as Derpy flew to the stage.
The cross-eyed Pegasus flew to the stage, dressed up as Spider-Pony.
"Thanks everypony!" she said excitingly. "I love to wear costumes!"
She was going to get a 2ND place trophy, but crashed.
"Sorry, it's my eyes."
Rainbow Dash was concerned about what will happen during the contest. If she won, she would be the best costume pony in Equestria, but, she didn't care. Then, the announcer introduced the other opponents. She was next after Trixie. After Trixie left the stage in 4TH place, Rainbow Dash was next.
"And our last costume pony for tonight is......" the announcer said dramatically. "RAINBOW DASH!"
The crowd cheered for Rainbow Dash, even the Cutie Mark Crusaders. She was excited for this moment! It was finally here, the moment she was waiting for.
"So, Rainbow Dash?" he said. "You're a vampire?"
"....Yes..." she said, nervous.
Suddenly, she felt something funny. It felt as her eyes were burning, ready for a laser blast.
"What are you going to say, Rainbow?" he said.
"I...uh..-AAGGH!"
Suddenly, her eyes blasted lasers out of her eyes! It burned so much.
"WHAT THE?!?" the announcer said, running away from the blast.
But, it blasted the announcer.
"AAAAAAAAH!" he screamed.
Everypony was running, and getting blasted by the lasers. Scootaloo ran from the blast.
"Scootaloo! No!" Applebloom screamed.
Of course, the laser streamed towards the running filly. She couldn't help it. It looked beautiful. It then touched her skin, burning it.
"AHHH!" she screamed.
"NO!" the two other Cutie Mark Crusaders screamed.
After the other ponies including the remaining Cutie Mark Crusaders escaped, the lasers stopped. Most of the competitors were killed in the process. Rainbow Dash fell to the floor. The colt then walked towards her.
"....W-W-What did you do to me?!" she said, coughing out blood.
"I just did what you could to win...." he said.
In her final seconds, Rainbow Dash sputtered out some words.
"I......H-Hate......You......."
Rainbow Dash's eyes were burned out of her head from the laser blast. She died due to loss of eyes. As the colt walked by a headless Derpy, he looked at the body of Derpy. He chuckled, and galloped away, leaving the dead body's of the ponies in there, including Rainbow Dash. The colt had killed off Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash. He was after Applejack and Rarity now. Outside the tent, Applejack, Rarity, and Twilight, came back.
"Twilight, we've been looking for three hours now." Rarity said, exhausted.
"Wait a second," Twilight said, sniffing up a smell. "That smell's like smoke."
The ponies inspected the area. What they found was shocking.
"Oh no!" Twilight said. "Look!"
Pointing towards the dead body of Rainbow Dash, the ponies gasped and cried.
"......No....." Twilight said.
They also saw Scootaloo's dead body as well.
"SCOOTALOO!" the ponies gasped.
They looked at her burnt skin, where they could see some bone. They cried again, even more than last time. Twilight, Applejack, and Rarity walked back out. It was silent outside. They knew that everyone left after midnight. Then, Twilight had something to say.
"If we keep goofing around, we'll be dead!" Twilight said.
"But, what about Fluttershy?!" Applejack questioned.
"She might be dead too!" Twilight said, angrily.
The ponies talked for awhile before Twilight had the remaining part of the gang to spread out and find Pinkie. Then, Twilight stayed on lookout for the killer. They knew something was going on, and they had to survive the whole night if they would get out alive from this mad-pony.

When Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash died, Twilight sent Applejack and Rarity out to continue looking for Pinkie. Twilight stayed clear for the mysterious killer, but, she may not make it. Applejack and Rarity were talking about the deaths.
"So, do you think the killer will find us?" Rarity questioned.
"I don't know," Applejack said. "But no dang' killer will kill me and ya'll off."
Rarity was scared. She had seen one of her friends dead, but that wouldn't stop her from hiding. Applejack and Rarity came across an carnival game. On the top, it said, Pin The Tail on the Pony. Upon further inspection, the carnival game had an manager door saying,
DO NOT TRESPASS! DANGEROUS USE OF OBJECTS USED HERE!
"This might be an pin rack area," Rarity said. "But we can't trespass here."
"Yea we can!" Applejack said, kicking the door open.
Inside was an pin rack indeed, but what they found was shocking. Near the pin's was the manager, dead.
"Good celestia!" both ponies shouted.
They ran over to the manager, who had a pin on his head. Disgusted, they tried to leave, but the door suddenly closed, locking them inside. They tried to find a light switch.
"Dear, Applejack?" Rarity said. "Are you okay?"
"Yea, Rarity." she said.
Suddenly, hoof-steps were heard.
"What's that?" Rarity said.
Then, a scream was heard, which sounded like Applejack. Scared, Rarity tried to find the light switch. Eventually she found it, but when she turned it on, Applejack was nowhere to be found. Rarity then tried to find Applejack, but didn't. Then, she walked out, and saw something scary: Applejack tied to the bench!
"MMMPH!" Applejack screamed, but couldn't talk with tape over her.
"APPLEJACK!" Rarity screamed.
Then, the announcement came up for the game.
"All right, fillies and gentlecolts! Get ready!"
On the base, there was bass gun's mounted to the base, which somehow booted up on their own. Then, a new announcement came up on the game.
"Applejack....." the voice said. "You're next!"
Then, the gun's immediately fired, piercing Applejack's body.
"ACK!" Applejack coughed.
"NO!" Rarity screamed.
Then, another shot hit Applejack's neck.
"...ACK!" Applejack coughed again, this time spitting out blood.
Rarity watched in terror as Applejack was being killed in front of her. As the final shot almost killed Applejack, the killer came out, laughing like crazy. Rarity was about to attack, but the colt's magic was powerful then her magic. The colt finally finished Applejack off by a pin to the head. Rarity sobbed very loud, causing the colt's ears to hurt. Rarity tried to run, but the colt got up quick and pinned her against a corner.
"Why did you sneak you're noses into my business?" he said, using a rock to hit Rarity. "When you could have left this place."
With a bleeding nose, Rarity spit in his face.
"Fine," he said. "You'll be my next vic-ACK!"
Twilight, who was standing behind the killer, knocked him out.
"T-T-Twilight?" Rarity said.
"I knocked him out for a while, so he won't stay down for awhile."
Rarity and Twilight ran away from the area, where Applejack was killed. It was sad for Rarity, but she had to move on. Back at the festival area, Twilight and Rarity hid. Twilight was worried about survival.
"..H-H-He killed Applejack...." a sad Rarity said.
"I know...." Twilight stuttered.
It was almost five AM. They had to hurry and find Pinkie, and fast. Because of the kills, the killer could find them, and kill them. Twilight had to make a plan in order to escape this sick game. Rarity couldn't take this anymore. Too many ponies had been killed, and it was making her insane. Twilight didn't notice this, because she was busy thinking. Eventually, the ponies had been set to finally find Pinkie. They also had the gear with them. In order of surviving, they had to kill the killer to survive. And they made sure they were safe of any signs of him.
"O.K," Twilight said. "It's safe."
The ponies ran towards places, searching for a smell of Pinkie.
"Well, Pinkie has some kind of cotton candy smell." Rarity said.
After five minutes, they smelled Pinkie's cotton candy smell. It was around some old warehouse.
"She's in there!" Twilight shouted.
"Wait!" Rarity said. "What if the killer's in there?"
"He possibly won't?" Twilight said.
They ran inside the warehouse to see multiple rooms. They tried to locate the smell, but it wasn't in any of the rooms. Until, the door locked.
"You......Ponies...." he said.
"AH!" both ponies screamed.
They ran away from the killer until Rarity was stabbed by an trap axe.
"RARITY!" Twilight screamed.
"..G-Go on without m-me, T-T-Twilight....." Rarity coughed.
The pony was bleeding across the floor, the killer still in pursuit. Twilight sobbed a little bit before leaving the dying Rarity. The killer pulled the axe from her body, and used it for a weapon. Twilight was running as fast as she could before she finally found Pinkie.
"...Twilight!" Pinkie said.
Pinkie was strapped to a spinning wheel. Twilight gasped.
"Pinkie, hold on! I'll get you.-"
"Not so fast!"
Twilight turned to see the killer, using magic to hold the bloodied axe. She then ran towards the killer, and hit him. On the floor, he was struggling to get up. Twilight then ran to Pinkie and tried to untie the straps.
"Thanks, Twi-LOOK OUT!"
Twilight turned and was stabbed by the axe.
"NO!"
"GAH!" Twilight screamed, falling out of bed.
Twilight looked around her bedroom. It was only a dream. She sighed.
"Only a dream."
Then, Spike, Twilight's dragon assistant, ran to her.
"Twilight!" he screamed. "Are you okay?"
She looked at his worried face. She knew by his face that he'd never seen her wake up during the night.
"Yes, Spike. I am."
"Okay," he said. "I'm going back to sleep."
Then, he ran back downstairs. She was safe either from dream or in real life. She then went back to her bed. She finally went to sleep.
"Good night."
