Why Do You Think So Often?

I Often Think

The room is lit, the sunset shines through the windows making every color of the library tree seem dimmer. The smell of Daisy's beautiful flowers covered the town, along with the cool nighttime breeze just arriving, that seemed to put everypony in a sleepish haze. The whole town had gone in for the night.

It was always quiet, Twilight made sure that it was quiet, she liked the quiet more than most in her small town. less distractions which gave her more time to think.

And she was very good at thinking, on most days you could see her in her room lying on her bed staring at the ceiling. A normal pony would look at her and think she was dead. And from her usual appearance, no pony could blame them for thinking such gruesome thoughts.

She wouldn't move, wouldn't visibly breath, and hardly blinked. All she did in her free time was look at her ceiling and think in silence.

"Hehehe"

A laugh is heard but... There was no movement at all in the room yet the sound came from the stiff vocal cords of the alicorn princess.

"She always thinks she can sneak up on me."

The voice seems like it is coming from the walls themselves, but it's Twilight's voice, and yet her lips are as still as a corpse

"When will she ever grow up?" Twilight's voice echoed."ahhh who am I kidding I love her childish games, I might as well play along."

A minute passes in silence, not a sound can be heard but yet you feel as though you are being stalked by a hungry predator. Then suddenly the sound of flapping wings surrounds the room and a rainbow blur swoops in, directly infront of her, causing the alicorn to scream, but still not moving a muscle, until she turns her head to face the door where the blue pegasus has landed.

"Rainbow you know I hate it when you scare me like that!"

"Oh come on Twilight your so easy to sneak up on. I knew that you wouldn't have your guard up. so what are you doing?"

"Ummmm... Well what do you think i'm doing?"

The Pegasus started to walk towards Twilight. Twilight only blinked at her.

"I think you've been thinking again"

"Just a little... ok a lot."

The Pegasus lied down next to Twilight and started hugging her. Twilight accepts the embrace with a small tear forming in her eye.

"Twilight you know I love you, and everything you do. but you have to stop this constant thinking its...its bad for us."

"Its bad for us to keep talking about it. Why don't we talk about you. Do you have any new tricks you want to show me?"

"Yeh, I do but for once I don't want to show off or talk about me. I want to know why. Why do you think so often instead of going out and spending time with me?"

"I think so often because...Well look at it this way thinking to me is like flying to you, it makes you feel alive and helps you get stronger so that you can face life's challenges."

Rainbow only lied there in silence not knowing how to respond to that.
After a minute she gave up and just buried her head into Twilight's fur.

"Why don't you stay here with me and we can think together?"

"We both know that I can't do that I would get to restless and interrupt your fantasies."

Without warning Twilight threw Rainbow Dash towards the door with her magic. She slammed against the wall next to the door. But being the crash landing expert, she quickly got on all four legs. Rainbow looked at Twilight confused and wanting an explanation. Instead she was met with a nightmare.

"THEY ARE NOT FANTASIES THEY ARE THOUGHTS!!!"

Her words shook the house. The rooms colors started to darken like they were being swallowed by a black hole. Rainbow Dash seemed to vanish out of existence, like she was never there to begin with. In a blink of an eye it all came back, Rainbow hadn't lost a hint of color, however the room was slightly darker than before.

"I'm sorry its just. I like to call them thoughts."

"Hey don't sweat it I understand. look its getting pretty late how about I make us some dinner and then we can call it a night."

"That sounds wonderful. Thank you."

"No problem. I will call you when it's ready, I love you."

"I love you too."

And with those words Rainbow left the room. Not as fast as she had entered it, leading Twilight to suspect that she had hurt Rainbow with her magic and would have to apologize to her later. And like nothing ever happened it went back to being quiet. Which made Twilight happy. She could ounce again be alone with her thoughts. The room hadn't regained its vibrant colors, The sun still in the same spot it had been for hours. But Twilight didn't care about the dimmer lights, she hadn't noticed the suns lack of movement, or even attempted to fix her hair that had lost its usual straightness, she only laid there watching the ceiling as if it were a portal to another dimension.

And then without warning. It appeared out of thin air. It was pony like, seemed to have a horn, and hid deep in the shadows of the room. could it have been there the whole time? No somepony would have saw it. its other characteristics cant be seen through the darkness. Yet Twilight could see it plainly out the corner of her eye. It stood to the right of her opposite of the door in the one part of the room the light couldn't reach. It leaned against the wall, looking at the door. Twilight gave a half nod like she was expecting it to just appear. After about a minute of silently starring at the ceiling, intentionally avoiding any interaction with it. Twilight turned her head to face the creature and saw the figure open its magenta eyes and stare at her from the shadows.

"You know your a disgrace?"

A deeper yet almost familiar voice rang through the room.

"I know."

Twilight said turning towards the ceiling again with her same expressionless face.

"And you don't deserve her."

"I know."

"Then why do you want her to stay?"

"Because she can do what princess Celestia couldn't do. Tolerate me."

"Well I cant tolerate her." it said with a growl. "But it is funny watching that fool eat up your lie ha. I mean come on, thinking helps you get stronger to face life's challenges hahaha."

"You know I hate lying to her, but its for her own good. please can we talk about something else?"

"Well I have visited you everyday for the past two years requesting the same thing, would you like to talk about that?"

With those words the figure stepped into the light of the sun. Her coat was lavender, her hair was purple with a black line in the center, her pupils were magenta but were gray all around them. She stood tall with her wings tucked away. Her head was raised with a confident smile, mocking Twilight.

"I don't want to hear your requests anymore i'm done listening to them."

"Then I am done requesting, and now I am commanding you, to finish the job you started! You played it smart and took out the biggest threat first, but then you got soft and now you spend all day in your thoughts like they will protect you from monsters like me and Rainbow Dash!"

The doppelganger stood over Twilight starring daggers into her, spitting with every word. After Twilight heard her insult Rainbow Dash she turned her head slowly toward the screaming mare. And continued to listen to its lecture.

"Your a darn fool if you think you can live peacefully here. So why don't you act like you've got some sense and do what you where born to do, and kill the rest of your pathetic friends!"

"No... You are the darn fool if you think that a few rants from my diabolical doppelganger would get me out of this trans I have happily placed myself in." She said with a calm expressionless tone.

Without even waiting for a response she turned towards the door and caught the delicious smell of her dinner being made, and turned back to her ceiling without another interruption. The room was empty again with only Twilight left to her thoughts.

It was quiet but she liked the quiet and made sure that it would stay that way. During all the arguing Twilight didn't have time to notice just how dark the room had become. Not even Twilight could see in this darkness, which she had grown accustomed to over the years. All that could be seen were her bright magenta eyes full of color, trapped in a colorless void. Again, Twilight's voice echoed through the room.

"Only I know why I think so often."

And with that her eyes shut leaving only silence and the cold darkness of the room.

"Clop!"

The sound of an ear twitch is all that's heard from inside the room.

"Clop!" "Clop!" "Clop!"

One of Twilight's eyes slightly opens. It sounds like hoofsteps.

"Clop!" "Clop!" "Clop!"

And they are getting closer.

"Clop!" "Clop!"

There was no doubt about it, whoever was trotting this way was intending to interrupt her thinking. Twilight opened both of her eyes and began squinting in anger.

"Clop!" "Clop!"

Twilight screamed like she was on fire. Twitching and fighting against her tightly noted and chained jacket. Pushing her wings to try and fly out of her nightmare. Starring with her bloodshot, colorless eyes at everything she couldn't see. She continued screaming at her metal door that imprisoned her in this hell. Shaking the walls with her regal vocal cords. Suddenly the guards opened the door with their nightstick batons raised. ready to beat the treatment into their "Favorite""patient.
