(Jacob)

"That will be five twenty five sir." The clerk said as I handed over the exact change and walked out the doors of the gas station with the door making a ding dong sound as they closed behind me.

Hey, my name's Jacob Brown, but all my friends just call me Glyph (you know, as in hieroglyph. The earliest recording of writing.) The reason being is that I love literature and writing with all my heart. I'm currently employed at a Books-a-million store near my house that I share with my best mate, Markus Wright.

"Eh bloke, watch were you're stepping!" An angry driver said waving his fist at me.

"Maybe you should watch were your driving jackass." I said giving him the good ole' highway salute.

Okay, I know that was harsh. I've been known to be a smartass from time to time, but I'm really a nice guy. Just not to people who piss me off.

Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, Markus and me. Me and him go years back to when we we're just freshmen in high-school. We became friends after we did an science experiment in… damn what subject? Chemistry? Anatomy? Ah screw it. All I remember is that me and him got detention because they thought we did it on perpose and we stuck together ever since. But what really made me and Markus friends was our love for a tv show that was really popular. My Little Pony:Friendship Is Magic. They stopped playing the show after it's… god damn, was it the twelfth or thirteenth season finale? *sigh* Never mind. Me or Markus haven't  watched that show in years. I can barely remember who the main characters were, but all I can remember about the show is that when it got cancelled, there was a huge brony revolt and viewers for Hub dropped making Hub go off the air.

"Spare some change sir?" A ragged old hobo said extending a cup.

"Yeah sure." I said pulling a five dollar bill from my wallet.

"God bless your soul." He said with a smile on his face.

"Yours too." I said walking off.

Let's see, introduction, detention, brony revolt…oh yeah. After being roomates in college at Manchester, me and Markus moved in together. Markus is pretty much a great friend and a great roommate. He works at a local GameStop and is also a rising start in the E.A.G.L. (the European Amateur Gaming League). He started to go by the nickname D-pad due to his awesomeness at video games. His ego would occasionally get ahead of him, and sure he can be a litre bit annoying at times, but he always has his heart in the right place, even though he doesn't show it.

After minutes of walking through the streets of England, I arrived at my apartment and dug my hands into my pockets and pulled out it's contents: one leather wallet, one cell phone, pocket lint, and no house key.

"Damn it." I muttered under my breath and pounded my fist on the door. "Markus, I left the key inside. Can you open the door?" I awaited to hear maybe footsteps or the door unlocking, but after five minutes of nothing, I stared to worry. "Markus, you alright?" Ten freezing cold minutes past and not even a peep came from inside the apartment.

His phone! I thought now entering the unlock code and quickly dialed his number. "Come on man. Pickup up." I said to myself as I heard my ringtone.

So watch my chest heave

As this last breath leave me

I am trying to be

What you're dying to see

I feel like "Fuck man,

Can't take this, anymore

This heart, break this."

This is life that's so thankless,

How could he just forsake us?

Racist he makes us

Hate us he gave us

Nothing but no trust

And I am so fucked up

So let this gun bond us

And once we are just dust

He'll know that he loved us

The song stopped dead as I heard his voicemail play and I knew something was wrong.

"Hold on Markus! I'm coming!" I yelled as I felt adrenaline started to kick in and I cocked my foot back and slammed it dead center of the door and watched it fly off the hinges and fall with a crash.

"Markus!" I yelled as I saw my friend laying on the floor with a horrible looking gash.
