A young earth colt walked down a gravel road that weaved between the cottages of a small village. He had a brown pelt, amber eyes, and a mane and tail that had two shades of darker brown. He was heading home from the marketplace, where his mother had sent him to buy some herbs, which were in an old, tattered saddlebag. The village he lived in was called Horscow, and he lived with his family in a farm on the outskirts of town, where there were more wide open places for growing crops. Soon there was a break in the buildings, he had reached the edge of town, but the road continued farther out and over the crest of a gentle slope. His legs ached from the day’s walk, but he was determined to get his groceries home.
Mustering up his strength, he put one hoof in front of another. Though the hill wasn’t very steep at all, the little colt was bone-weary, and it took a lot of effort just to get to the top. Sweating and panting, he slowly made his way up until he reached the top. Dripping with sweat, he nearly collapsed with exhaustion, but he stopped himself. He instead paused to catch his breath. He was part of a hard-working family.
His mother tended the garden and harvested the crops while his father left regularly for Canterlot for military drills and training. He was part of the Equestrian National Army, loyally serving Princess Celestia and protecting his home from deadly creatures. His father had always encouraged strength in the family, which was why he would always send his son to do hard tasks, even though his son still very young. But though the tiny colt was young, his labor had made him stronger than most of the other foals in the village, whose parents waiting until they were older to give them tasks.
Sometimes he got jealous when he saw the other children playing outside together while he had to work, but in the end, he knew it was worth it. He could always see just by looking at the others that their muscled were softer and less developed than his. But their games would not last, he knew. Soon they would be helping their parents to work the farms and clean the houses they lived in. His strength restored, he carried on faster than before, and soon his family’s cottage came into view. His great grandfather had built the cottage many years ago, but it still stood strong to that day.
It was made of dark brown wood. The shingles of the roof were also made of wood, and were dark gray, carrying with them a story of countless storms and seasons. Surrounding the cottage was a wall of piled stones, some of which were cracked with age and covered in moss and lichens. He had made it to the wall and opened the criss-crossed gate in the front, unhitching it and pushing it open with his snout. He walked through, turned back to lock the gate again, walked up to the door of his home. He could not yet reach the doorknob, so he just knocked the door with one hoof.
“Mama,” He called in his tiny colt voice. “Mama, I have zee grozeries.” Soon the door opened, and a light brown mare with a black mane and tail opened the door.
“Ah, Filipp! You have zee grozeries! Vat a good boy.” She greeted her son. He followed her as she turned to go back inside, his bag full of herbs draped over his back. They walked into the kitchen. It was small, but it was all they needed.
“I vill get zat for you.” She offered, picking up the bag in her teeth and placing it on the counter, muttering the names of each plant she withdrew from the pockets. In a moment she looked back to her son, a smile on her face. “Vell done, Filipp! Zat is every zing on zee list.” Filipp felt warm from the inside at his mother’s praise. After a moment the sound of strong wing beats came from outside, and both ponies looked up. “Ah! Your Papa is home from Canterlot!” As she spoke the door opened and a large black pegasus stood in the doorway, his huge black wings spread and deep amber eyes glaring from his face as if from a shadow. He wore the gold-plated armor that was the typical uniform of Celestia’s army. His hooves were white and large, have covered with the feathery black fur of his thick fetlocks. He folded his large wings, his broad shoulders and wings scraping the doorway as he walked inside, a tough smile on his face.
“Grigory! It is good to see you home.” Filipp’s mother greeted, walking over to give her husband a kiss on the cheek.
“It is good to see you too, Diana.” He greeted as he lifted his helmet and put it on a peg by the door, revealing his short-cropped white mane.
“I must go,” Diana began. “Zee field needs to be plowed. I vill be back by sundown.” Grigory turned to his son. Filipp knew what this would mean. “Filipp.” He began in his gruff voice. “Go help your mozer vith zee plowing.” Filipp nodded, crestfallen. He was exhausted from his last task, but he knew it had to be done. His mother, however, had something to say.
“Now vait just a minute, Grigory.” She protested. “Filipp has already done enough today. He needs his rest.”
“Nonsense!” Grigory shouted, stamping one feathered hoof and making the floor shake. “Zee Gurgenshloop family has always been powerful. Filipp is strong like ox.” He said, roughly planting one hoof on his son’s head, as if to indicate him. “He can do more zan any of zee ozer colts in zis village, and zat is because he works zee hardest.” He continued, walking forward as he roughly pushed his son to the back door with his forelegs, his mother following, steaming, behind.
He propelled Filipp outside with a powerful shove. A push like that could have knocked any other foal Filipp’s age flying, but his father had raised him strong, and, though the tasks were hard at times, he was grateful for the motivation. As his father stood in the doorway, his mother Diana hitched herself up to a plow and walked up and down the field, leaving deep ruts in the earth. Filipp followed behind with a bag of seeds in his mouth, his head bowed to sprinkle the seeds behind her.
With two ponies, the work was done twice as fast, and the job was done just after noon. Filipp and his mother came back inside through the back door and, while she started to make dinner, her son walked upstairs, into his room. He walked up to his bed but, though he was tired, he didn’t climb in. Instead, he bent his head down and pulled something out from underneath. It was a board game, owned by his great grandfather when he was a colt. Filipp didn’t have shelves, so everything he owned he kept under his bed. He looked at the game.
On it’s surface was a long, winding trail covered in different colored segments. There were five pieces; a dragon, a manticore, a hydra, a minotaur, and a griffin- all carved of wood. The game was like a race, and each player had to get their animal to the finish line first. He was always too busy to play with other foals, but sometimes he liked to pretend. He looked at a black velvet box attached firmly to the center of the board, which was what held the pieces. He opened it and picked up the dragon and the manticore, they were his favorites. He put them both on the board and reached back into the box for a pair of dice.
He rolled them, it was his turn first- seven. He moved the dragon seven spaces.
“I’m in zee lead.” Filipp said to the empty space on the other side of the board. “Your turn.” He grabbed the dice again and rolled a four, then moved the minotaur four spaces. “My turn again.” He said, then picked up the dice, rolled, and moved the dragon two spaces. He continued on like that until the game was over, the minotaur piece had won. “I…Win.” He said with a sigh. It was okay to pretend there was someone else there, but it just wasn’t the same. Head bowed sullenly, he put the game pieces back in the box and shoved the board back under the bed.
As his hoof slid underneath, it sought out something in particular. Within a few moments he hit it and smiled with glee. He reached further and drew it out with his hoof. His favorite book, The Breeding of Domestic Animals. It was his favorite book, and also belonged to his great grandfather. When he ran the farm, there were all sorts of animals, but when he died, he willed them all away to his distant relatives. Filipp Gurgenshloop had never grown up with animals, and not many ponies in the village owned any, either. The most he had ever learned about animals was from reading through the breeding guide.

Filipp opened to the cows section. It was full of descriptive details, physiological diagrams and colored photographs of mating bovines. He opened up to the other chapters, each the same, featuring their corresponding animal. He never found anything particularly dirty about these static pictures, he was too young to ever be exposed to anything sexual between other ponies. He knew everything in this book was natural. The book, however, didn’t explain everything he wanted to know; ‘What did it feel like?’, ‘What did the movement look like in real life?’. So many questions, not enough answers. Soon his mother’s voice came from downstairs.
“Filipp! Come down for dinner!” He closed the book and slid it back under his bed, then stood up and trotted downstairs. His mother and father were sitting at the table. “Come, sit down, before your dinner gets cold.” His mother told him. He pulled out his chair and pulled himself up into a seated position. His mother had made his favorite; tomato soup with carrot slices, celery, and green beans. His parents started to eat, but Filipp sighed and didn’t touch his meal.
“Vat is zee matter?” Diana Gurgenshloop asked her son. “Vy haven’t you touched your food?” Filipp looked up, a sad look in his amber eyes.
“Nozing, it’s just…It is so lonely sometimes, vorking on zee farm. Zere are no ozer colts for me to play vith.”
“Nonsense!” His father grunted from the other side of the table, his amber eyes glaring in contrast to his dark black coat. “You do not need friends, zere is too much vork to be done for you to be frolicking about vith zee ozer ponies.” He spat out ‘frolicking’ as if it were some kind of curse. “You are too good for zem, zey do not yet know zee meaning of hard vork.” He huffed. Filipp shrugged with defeat.
“I guess you are right,” He sighed. “I just vish I had some kind of friend…” He sullenly picked up his spoon and slowly sipped some of the soup. Suddenly, his mother’s eyes gleamed as if she had an idea, but whatever et was, she kept her excitement suppressed. “Finish your meal, Filipp.” She told him. “Zen go to bed.” He slowly ate his soup. When he was finished, he excused himself and sullenly walked up the stairs, into his room, and climbed into bed to sleep, feeling lonelier than ever.
Filipp woke to the sound of a rooster crowing in the distance, the sun was just coming up, and he knew work had to be done. He climbed out of bed and grabbed his tattered bag from one of his bedposts, draping it over his back and heading down the stairs. Normally, his parents would have just woken up, his father in his gold plated uniform and his mother in her work clothes. But what he saw instead made his mouth gape open in surprise.
Both his parents were sitting at the table, looking at him with smiles, his mother spoke first.
“Good morning, Filipp!” His mother greeted. “Have your breakfast, we are going somevere today. Your Papa took zee day off today so vee can go as a family. Eat your cereal so vee can go.” The little brown colt was immediately excited. This was like an adventure! Like the kind the other village foals always pretended to have, but this was real! He hurried up to eat his breakfast and all three ponies left the house and walked down the road.
They went through the middle of town, following the main road until they reached a sign that said , “Petting Zoo, ½ mile”. Filipp looked up at his mother, and she nodded, confirming his unspoken question. He nearly bounced for joy, but stopped himself when he realized his father was watching. The petting zoo! He had never been there, but he had often heard the other children talking about it- how it had many, many animals. This was his chance! Filipp had never been up close to a real animal, and he was really looking forward to it.
They walked down the road until the sounds of bleating and clucking were heard and they approached a wooden gate. Next to the gate was a ticket booth run by an adolescent stallion. The sign said, “Tickets required for entry. 2 bits per ticket.” His mother walked up to the booth.
“Zree tickets, please.” She requested, putting six bits on the counter. The stallion looked up from his reading material and nodded.
“Whatever.” He said dully, giving Filipp’s mother three tickets.
“Zank you.” She thanked.
“Whatever.” The teen stallion said, not looking up this time. The three ponies walked through the gate and gave the tickets to a different stallion, who in turn fitted them with cheap, paper entry bracelets. Filipp couldn’t believe his eyes. There were so many animals- some he had seen in his book, but many others he had never seen at all. After receiving his bracelet, he dashed over to the nearest pen, which held several baby goats.
His eyes glittered as he saw the furry animals for the first time in person. Too excited to speak, he reached out a hoof to pet the head of one of the babies, which flicked its ears under his touch. Eager to see everything, he dashed from one pen to another, seeing nearly every single animal, his parents following behind at a more normal pace. Soon he stopped at the pig pen, and his mother walked over to him.
“Vee are going to look at zee ozer animals. Can vee trust you to be good?”
“Yes, Mama.” Filipp nodded.
“Good,” She said, and turned to walk away. “Meet us at zee goat pen ven you are done.” He nodded and, after a while, got bored of petting the same animal. He turned around, and the first thing he saw was a large building. He had not noticed it before and over the door the word “Bunnies” was painted in pink letters. He was excited, he had never seen a bunny up close before, they weren’t even in his book. Without hesitation, he dashed to the building. Inside the open doorway were pens, each containing little animals. They were adorable, and many other little fillies and colts surrounded the closest pens, some even went inside to pet the little creatures.
Their ears were long, their eyes were like little bright beads, and they had small, fluffy, twitching tails. They were like the wild rabbits in the fields, but they had a softer, more domestic look to them. When he was younger, he would often try to touch the wild rabbits, but to no avail, they were much to fast and sprinted away the moment he saw them. He walked around the building, looking for a pen he could have all to himself. Very faintly, over the chatter of the other children, he could hear a tiny squealing. Alarmed, he ran to the most remote corner of the building.
It was partly in shadow, and nopony was even near it or seemed to notice it was there. He looked inside the pen, but his expression of alarm soon turned into one of amazement. There were two rabbits in the pen, one crouched over the other as they both gyrated quickly. He realized that what was happening before him was just like what happened in his book. He thought this would be a great educational opportunity, but, as he watched, he felt a sensation between his legs. His craftsponyship came from years of learning carving and weaving skills on his parents’ farm.
The TV cart wasn’t in front of the couch, instead it was in a corner on the first floor. He knew there was no way he could get it up the stairs, and he would never consider hiring somepony to move it for him, lest they discover all those horny rabbits humping away in their pens. After surveying a job well done, he glanced at the clock. It was 4:30; time to feed the bunnies their supper. He turned around and walked down the stairs. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, he turned to a large bag of food directly by the staircase. He walked around the large room, collecting empty food bowls and balancing them on his back as he returned to the bag. He filled each one by one and placed them on a cart similar to one you would see a waiter pushing at a restaurant. He had to bring the food this way, since it was near impossible to balance full dishes on one’s back.
He pushed the cart along and deposited each dish in a pen. Some of the bunnies ceased their love making to eat, but others ignored the food altogether, too busy with their own intercourse to be hungry at the moment. Soon he was finished, and rolled the cart back against the wall by the bag. Life was good working on the bunny farm. Mr. Gurgenshloop got all the porn he wanted, and nopony knew.

‘To Filipp Gurgenshloop, from Ms. Cheerilee, Ponyville Elementary’. He used his letter opener and cut open the envelope, withdrawing the letter from inside.
“Hello Mr. Gurgenshloop. It is my understanding that you own a bunny breeding facility in Canterlot. I run a school for young foals, and I think they would appreciate it very much if you could come to my school and talk to the class about how your farm is run and how the rabbits are raised. The children love animals, and I think it would be a good experience for them.

Mr. Gurgenshloop was surprised, he had never expected this. He read it a second time to make sure he had understood.
“Present at a school?” He murmured to himself, a small smile on his face. “A school full of… Fillies?” His grin widened and his irises shrunk quickly until they were little more than black specks, each surrounded by a thin ring of amber. Suddenly he put the paper down on the table and raised his voice so he could be heard throughout the building.
“Bunnies! Get ready, vee are going to make some new tapes!”
