I’m Phoenix Flight, a young dragon-pony hybrid. I suppose that in normal pony years I’d be considered a filly, as in just starting school. I’m not sure who my parents are, my father died just before my birth and my mother died soon after. I have horns, but im no good at magic and flying. My mane is red and I am pale peach in color. I don’t like being around others and-
“Hey, you!” I turn to see a white Pegasus colt with a pale grey mane and tail a bit older than me run over. He shoves his face into mine and stalks around me low to the ground. “You look funny!” hey! I do not look ‘funny’! He smiles at me. “But ya know what? So do I!”
“You look normal to me.” I say in a vexed tone.
“Oh, that’s a spell my mom taught me!” huh?!?! how can a Pegasus do magic?
“You lost me.” I say confusedly.
He looks around to see if anyone is watching and gestures to a bunch of bushes. “Come on!” he disappears and I follow him, only to bolt back out in terror.
“Y-you are a dra-“
“Shhhh!” he interrupts me. “I’m only half draconequus, the other half is alicorn. I’m Prince Mayhem, but just call me M, okay?”
“A draconequus killed my mother........” I say through tears.
He looks at me gently. “Well, that isn’t me, and despite my name, I actually dislike mayhem, but my talent is controlling emotions.”
As he talks I feel more and more calm. “I see what you mean.”
“Yoo-hoo, Mayhem!” a derpy looking draconequus says as he appears and I shrink to the ground and wish I were smaller.
“M-Mayhem? H-help...” I say quietly.
“It’s just my dad, calm down.” he responds.
“Oh! You found a little friend!” the draconequus says happily. “I’m discord, reformed god of chaos. You are?”
“Phoenix Flight, I just go by Phoenix though.” M must have boosted my bravery. “How are you ‘reformed’?”
“Elements of Harmony, long story.” M mutters.
“M, your mother sent me for you.” Discord says happily.
“We aren’t far from the castle, come on, we’ll walk there.” M begins walking as he speaks and I follow quietly. “You do, by the way.” He says, turning his head to look at me.
“What do you mean?” Discord and I say in unison.
“You have a place in the world.” He clarifies. “I can sense emotions, it’s part of controlling them, and you are wondering ‘will I ever belong?’ right?”
Discord smiles at me and scoops me onto his back. “Everypony, hybrid, gryphon and really any creature has it’s place in the world. It may not seem like it at times, but it’s true.”
“Thanks, I guess I needed that.”I mutter. Suddenly a castle comes into view.
“Welcome, Phoenix, to my home.” M says happily, and I can feel a shift in my world, like something is going to change and it going to change fast.
“Where is he?!?!” a regal looking white alicorn with a flowing tricolor mane yelled. “He was supposed to be here hours ago!”
“Better go,” Discord said with a sigh. “I’ll handle Phoenix.”
“but-” Mayhem began
“Um, I-I’ll be fine.” I said quietly.
“Mayhem, there you are!” the alicorn said as she flew over. She looked at me with a jolt. “Discord, who is this?”
“Celestia, my love, this is Phoenix Flight, Mayhem’s new friend. She just came here.”
“Fine, but what is she?”
“She looks like a pony and a dragon had a foal.” A night blue alicorn with a flowing mane twinkling with stars stated, walking over.
“Auntie Luna!” Mayhem hugged her.
“Hello, Phoenix Flight is it?” Luna addressed me.
I nod at her.
“Come here.” I walk towards her cautiously. “Wings and a horn, red mane, pale fur, blue and green eyes. You are a very unique creature.”
"I-is that bad?" I ask quietly.
Luna giggles quietly and I shrink to the ground.
"Of course not!" Luna says, dipping her head to be eye level with me. "I think that being different is wonderful!" She picks me up with her magic and studies me carefully. "Can you fly with those?" She asked
"I don't fly well." I respond.
"We will fix that." She states. "Come along!" Like I have a choice. I think as she carries me of. I look behind me to see M and his parents looking at us funny.
