“Uuuurrrrrghhhh!” I groaned loudly as I sat in my Math class. We were having the fourth quiz this week and I was anxious to get out of there. I’d finished early, but there were still 15 minutes left in class and both my phone and computer were dead. So I was stuck doing absolutely nothing until the bell rang for the end of the week. “TGIF, right?” I said semi-sarcastically as I decided to just doodle till the end of class.
I took out a sheet of paper and began to draw randomly for a few minutes. After a while, I noticed what I’d drawn- a cluster of three apples, three butterflies, three balloons, three diamonds, a cloud with a lightning bolt sticking out of it, and a large star-shape. “I guess my mind is somewhere else right now, eh?” I thought to myself as I absent-mindedly began to hum the MLP FiM theme song under my breath.
Suddenly, the bell rang and I jumped out of my seat. “Woo-hoo!” I yelled as I began running out the door-and promptly tripped and fell on my face. The entire class began laughing at me as they walked out the door and I turned to see who’d decided to torture me. Unfortunately, a foot came down on the back of my head as a voice said, “Fine place to take a nap, Queers!” I groaned. It was Jacob Jackson, the class hotshot. I called him Jackass Jackson. Unfortunately for me, however, I’d just called him that out loud before class, so I was as good as dead.
2 hours later…
“Oouuch,” I said rubbing my neck. I’d been shoved into one of the basketball hoops in the gym and forced to stay there until Jackass and his cronies got distracted and I could escape. I could’ve fought them off, but they surprised me. Plus, I’d missed the bus, so I had to walk about three miles from school to home. “I’m back!” I yelled to no one as I flopped onto the couch in my sparsely decorated apartment.
Backstory time!
My name is Trenton. I’m 17, and I look pretty good. I have brown hair with pink streaks, and stand around 6’2. I’m pretty lean, but quick and strong. I’m also pretty smart, and good with a sword, but impulsive and unmotivated. I get okay grades, but not as good as I could get.
I had a fairly good childhood, I guess. I kept my nose down, got good grades, and had an all-around good life. At least until sophomore year. That was when two of my sisters died in the elementary school fire and my parents got divorced. My mom took my other sister and moved to New York, while my dad got me and moved to the inner city.
Still, that wasn’t so bad. I could live with it, but apparently my dad couldn’t. He disappeared the summer before senior year. My mother’s family didn’t want me, and my dad’s family was non-existent, so I used my money I had saved up to get an apartment, some furniture, and Netflix.
On this particular afternoon, I was off work, so I decided to binge-watch as much MLP as possible before I fell asleep. As I was watching the episode Party of One, I noticed the clock was at 11:10. Being the Internet surfer that I am, I decided to make a wish. As soon as the clock struck 11:11, I walked to the window and made my wish.
“I wish-I wish that I could leave this hellhole of a universe. I wish that I could have friends, maybe even a girlfriend. I wish I could mean something, be a hero. I wish to have the perfect life,” I finished just before the clock struck 11:12. I waited there for a while before sighing, closing the window, and going back to the chair. I fell asleep not long after that.
The next day…
I woke up at around 9:45. I grabbed a quick shower, brushed my teeth, put on deodorant, got dressed, and began walking around the city. Suddenly, I spotted Jackass and his gang. I quickly ducked into an alleyway and listened to his rant.
“That little faggot’s gonna pay for ducking us yesterday! Nobody disses me like that. No one!” he said, almost growling.
“What are you gonna do to him?” one of the minions asked.
“First, we’re gonna comb the streets until we find him. Then, we beat him within an inch of his life and cut him in the stomach. Once he’s bled to death, we stash the body in the sewers.”
“Isn’t that gonna get you in trouble?”
“Nah. That faggot lives alone. He’s got no friends and no family. We could kill him and no one would know or care.”
As I heard this, my jaw began to drop. And then, without warning, my traitorous voice let out a sharp gasp. “There he is!” Jackass said. “Get him!” I instantly took off running through the streets. I ran for a while, with Jackass and his minions following close behind. They cornered me in an alley, but I clambered up a fire escape. That soon proved to be a huge mistake though, as I was now stuck on top of a 27 story building with no means of escape.
Jackass was closing in. “Nowhere to run now, you quick little bastard!” he said, flicking out a switchblade. I glanced to the left and the right. I was surrounded on all sides by his goons, and my back was to the edge of the building. “I’m gonna enjoy this,” Jackass said triumphantly. I realized now that I was going to die today. I decided I’d rather choose my own death. I backed up to the railing and climbed to the platform on top, amidst unnerved whispers of the gang. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Stretching my arms out, I leaned backward, plummeting off the side of the building.
As I fell, I couldn’t help but enjoy the short feeling of flying I was experiencing. It reminded me of the summer before everything went to shit, when I went hang-gliding. I tensed up, preparing to hit the ground. After a few seconds passed and I didn’t feel any excruciating pain, I slowly cracked open one eye.
I was falling through a tunnel of blue light, with miniature stars lining the rim. I turned my body in the direction I was falling, and saw the destination. It looked exactly like-but there was no way it could be. Suddenly, I shot through the portal with a blinding flash. I felt like I’d changed somehow, but before I could take a look, I smashed into a hollow tree. However, I did get a good look at my surroundings before I blacked out. My last thought before I was thrust into sleep was that the tree… looked exactly like the inside of the Golden Oak Library.
Twilight Sparkle was incredibly annoyed.
Today had been a rotten day. Firstly, she’d woken up way late, completely throwing off her schedule. She’d hurried to the train station to pick up the next shipment of books for the library, and promptly discovered that the shipment had been postponed, and wouldn’t arrive in Ponyville for another week. Finally, she’d been walking back home when something smashed into her house, creating a giant hole in the roof.
Somepony was going to pay.
“Alright, who’s responsible for this?!” Twilight yelled as she blasted open the door, ready to singe, sear, and otherwise inflict harm on the guilty party. Her attitude quickly changed as she saw that said guilty party was lying unconscious on the library door. She went over to check up on the pony, and quickly shut the door once she got a good view of them. She began to yell for Spike, then remembered that he was at Rarity’s. Taking in a deep breath, she used her levitation magic to place the new pony into the bed and then took a closer look.
The pony was a stallion, and looked to be about the same age as Twilight. He had a brown, scraggly mane with pink streaks, and a bluish coat. Twilight couldn’t help but notice that he was pretty good-looking. But what grabbed her attention were the stallion’s large, majestic wings… and his dimly glowing horn.
