Chap. 2: Live And Let Die
Previous ChapterNext ChapterNot too much later, something truely amazing happened. I can still remember waking up to hearing Celestia screaming and yelling out of delight. When I came downstairs, both of our parents had the greatest smiles on their faces. When I asked what was going on, they both told me, "Look" and pointed at Celestia's flank. When I looked, there it was, her cutie mark! It was of a sun, obviously meant to symbolize her special talent, her ability to raise the sun.
A smile grew on my face, from ear-to-ear, as I ran to my sister and I hugged her for a good 3 minutes. Our parents joined in less than half a minute in. We were all very proud of her newfound mark. To celebrate, our parents threw a big celebration open to the public. My sister called it the Grand Galloping Gala and it was to be held every year. Our castle was placed in Canterlot, a city known for its snootiness. So you could imagine that it was a very boring event, both Celestia and I hated going to it.
Nothing exciting ever happened at the Grand Galloping Gala, except for one year. Sadly, the excitement wasn't at all a good thing for anypony. One year, the queen of the crystal empire, the changelings, and the crystal ponies, at a time they were in peace, came to the Gala. I believe her name was Queen Symfore and she had one daughter. Her daughter was named Princess Chrysalis and her husband was dead due to natural causes. Along with them, came two crystal ponies and two changelings.
This year, my sister and I faked an illness so that we could get out of going, I heard that it was just as boring as any other Gala. That night though, the two changelings hid while all the other guests left. When they were all alone, they changed themselves to look like Celestia and I so that they could move around the castle easily. The next thing they did was go to the kitchen and grabbed our sharpest knives. Walking up to our parents bedroom, the changelings killed them both on the spot and fled. Both Celestia and I were in a deep sleep at the time.
They were both caught less than a week later and explained how they did it. As for why, they said it had to do with how Equestria was being ran. I didn't understand politics back then, and I'm pretty sure that my knowledge on it only got worse. So I didn't really understand their motivations.
The death of the king and queen hurt all of Equestria. Queen Symfore sent out an appology letter stating that she didn't, nor did anypony else in her kingdom, have anything to do with the attack. The two changelings were sentenced to death. Personally, this didn't hit me that hard. Like I said, it was almost like I barely knew them. But my sister took the biggest blow, she truely knew our parents how I never did. She blamed herself for their death and was put into deep depression. I really did care about her, Celestia was more like a mother to me than my own mother. So, the biggest blow I took was having to see my own sister like this for a very long period of time.
I nearly fell under the same state, if I didn't fake an illness, this wouldn't have happened. Celestia wouldn't be like this if I didn't skip the Gala. But I quickly got over it because I had to. So that I could be there for her.
I tried to be there for her as often as possible and tried to calm her down. It seemed like it was useless trying to help since I was never able to get her to believe that it wasn't her fault. But I still tried because I knew that she would do the same thing for me if it was the other way around.
A close friend of the family, Starswirl The Bearded, took rule over the kingdom while Celestia was unable to. I always called him Uncle Starswirl and he was the greatest magician in all of Equestria! One day I went to him seeking some help and he taught me this really neat spell. He called it "Dream Weaver" and it gave me the ability to go into anypony's dream. I, of course, used it to enter Celestia's dreams, to better understand what she's going through.
They were more like nightmares, always dark and foggy. They were almost always about our parents and the night they were killed. How she could have and should have saved them.
I remember one dream where she went through the entire Gala and when the changelings came to kill our parents, she turned the knives on them. It quickly got bloody and it took me hours to stop crying for her. That she had these aweful dreams, it wasn't like her to wish death upon somepony. Apparently, these two didn't apply to this unspoken rule.
At one point, I was sick of trying and sick of not making a difference in Celestia's life. So, I decided to go into her nightmare world one last time... except, this time, it wasn't a nightmare. It was about... me! I was so shocked that I stayed in there longer than usual. It seemed more like flashbacks to when our parents were alive, back when she would do anything just to be with me. When we were at our happiest and all of a sudden, a pool of memories washed into my brain. Of times when Celestia would skip training to play with me. That night, I remembered why I was still here for her, because she was there for me. Needless to say, I cried like a filly.
Author's Note
Chapter 2 & it's already getting better. If anyone's familiar with ConspiraPon3, you could probably tell that I kind of borrowed his conspiracy about Chrysalis. It's a really good one & I'm going to expand upon that a bit more as the story continues.
