The cool winter air blew through her flowing mane, her eyes darting first to the library, quickly reverting back to her sister, furiously taking notes on every single move that Luna made. A smirk was betrothed on her face, her bag of tricks hanging on her back.
“Now listen up sister!” Her voice was a hurricane’s eye. ”To execute a good prank, one must first learn the art of stealth. I want you to go into Twilight’s Library, taking the quill she uses on all of her letters.”
Celestia looked at Luna, a baffled look in her eyes. How would this teach her to prank a pony? She wasn’t doing anything to laugh at Twilight for…
“But, Luna, if I may...how is this relevant to the situation at hand? I just want to play one prank!”
Luna hushed her, putting a hoof to her lips. “Sister, I said stealth, not prank. I can only teach you what I myself have learned. If it is not good enough, you can go and seek a solution to your pranking issues.”
Celestia sighed, rolling her eyes. Luna was, in fact, her mentor for the day. She would have to do what she said, no matter how absent-minded it sounded. “Fine, Luna. But once I successfully receive the quill, you must teach me how to prank.”
Luna nodded, a smile on her face. She watched, the pop of Celestia disappearing only audible to her alert ears.
Celestia stood in the middle of the library. Completely silent, she looked around, her eyes jetting across the room. The whole place seemed to be void of life, which was a blessing to Celestia. She walked over to the mahogany desk at the end of the room, her prize lying just within reach. She reached her hoof out, the quill tip brushing against her hoof.
“Princess Celestia! What are you doing in here?” Twilight looked expectantly at Celestia, the question lingering in the air. The Princess froze, her eyes locked onto the pen that she had almost taken so furtively.
“Umm, hello, Twilight! I just came in to check on your work! You haven’t been writing to me recently…”
As Celestia turned around, Twilight chuckled, a proud sound to her voice. “I write to you every single day! Except for that one...where I kind of went a little loony…but if you haven’t been receiving my letters, then I think it’s time I had a little talk with Spike. He’s been pretty lazy about doing everything I ask lately.”
Celestia chuckled nervously back, her imagination filling with thoughts of what Twilight would do to Spike as he audaciously rejected all of her accusations. Twilight always sent letters to Princess Celestia. She didn’t even bother reading them anymore. It was apparent that she already knew most about friendship. Unless a letter came into her urgent box, she was quite reluctant to read it.
“Well, as long as you’re here, would you like to stay for some lemonade? After that visit to the Crystal Empire, I think we both need a rest, you being the Princess of Equestria and all.”
The Princess stood there, her body still frozen and the smile plastered onto her face. “Yes, that will be fine.” She watched as Twilight left the room, hips swaying happily to the tune of “Winter Wrap-Up.” Celestia reached behind her back, hastily taking the quill and teleporting it outside, to where Luna was waiting for her to send it.
When Twilight came back into the room, Celestia had situated herself on one of the beds upstairs. She was looking at the various photos that Twilight Sparkle had hung up on the walls. Most of them depicted Twilight and her normal group of friends, but one stood out to her.
It was a letter. Normally, a letter wouldn’t attract any attention. The only difference between a common letter and this piece of literature, was that this was her first ever letter to Princess Celestia. It was evident it had never been sent, and Celestia read the words carefully.
“So, you’ve seen my photos, eh? I know most of them are tacky, but I think they’re absolutely amazing!” Twilight’s face lit up, her smile wide. She walked up the stairs, the platter floating only inches behind her head. Handing one to Celestia, she set the tray down and sat on the other bed.
“So, Twilight, why have you never sent this letter to me?” Celestia pointed her hoof back to the wall, where the letter had been. Twilight walked over, staring at the blank space on the wall.
“What letter?” Celestia did a double take. The letter was gone! That was practically impossible. Unless she had made it all up in her head, Celestia was baffled. Doing another double take, she sighed in relief, the letter back in its place. She read it over once again, this time her face turning into one of confusion.
She turned back to Twilight, smiling at her. “So, Twilight, you went to the Crystal Empire today? What did you do there?”
This seemed like it had a small effect on Twilight, who had to think about that for a second. “Well...umm...I met with Cadence and we talked about trying to get Rainbow Dash to do a sonic rainboom at the Summer Sun Celebration.”
“Is that so…” Celestia poked Twilight’s nose. “Boop. You can’t fool me, Luna!”
Twilight disappeared, Luna suddenly replacing her form. “Aw, sister, I got you again! It would seem that you are not ready to live up to my fame yet.”
“Alright, you tricked me with a fake jar twice! You exploded in front of my eyes, and now this! I think it’s about time you taught me how to at least fool a pony into thinking you can explode! Please, Luna...I have to…”
Luna broke out in a grin, patting Celestia on the shoulder. “Well, if you really want to know that trick…
Celestia changed, just as Luna had moments before. She was instantly replaced with Twilight Sparkle, who fell over laughing. Celestia jumped out from under the bed. “HA! For once, I tricked the great Trolluna! All worship Sunbutt!”
The other ponies started to laugh. “S-sunbutt? SUNBUTT!!!”
Even Celestia had to laugh at this. But things didn’t quite seem to end as well as they had before for her...or at least, in a way that felt like things were wrapped up. That was when she heard Twilight.
“Hey, Princess Celestia? I have something for you...it’s my lesson of friendship for the day.” She handed over a rolled up piece of parchment, which Celestia happily proceeded to open.
“You’ve been trolled! Happy pranking!”
And a large bucket of glue dropped onto Celestia’s head.
