One hundred years after the Battle of Canterlot

There is a house on a grey hill.

Princess Luna steps onto the front porch of the humble cottage after making the climb from the stone path. She stops to wipe her boots on the doormat, cleaning them of the dust and dirt from the trail. She brushes off her pants and her long coat as well.

Luna places Phobos and Deimos gently against the porch railing, safe in their scabbards. A pot of icy-blue flowers rests on the railing post above them.

With nothing on her but her courier bag, Luna enters the cottage.

“Hello, Celestia.”

“Oh! Luna! My dearest sister! It is so wonderful to see you again.”

“How have you been?”

“Fine. Though I don’t quite understand how you once used to live here. It gets much too cold!”

“That is because you are sitting on the wrong side, sister. You must sit on the warmer side. The side of the Sun!”

“… Ohhh. Oh, yes. I suppose that is true. Yes. I’ll do that now…. Ah.”

“Let me help… There... See? Much better, yes? And the view you now have is spectacular.”

“You could not be more right, Luna. Thank you… What have you brought with you this time?”

“Ah… just a few things I thought you might enjoy…”

“… Ohhh! Luna! Chocolate cake? You remembered!”

“It is not that hard to forget. But yes. I also brought you some moon cakes as well. They are of a very old and very special recipe. I hope you enjoy them!”

“How kind of you. Please sit down with me, Luna. You must be tired from your journey.”

“Hmmm… Have I ever told you how much I enjoy feeling your hand upon my heart?”

“You have. Heartmending has this effect on many.”

“It is like… I can feel more than just your hand. I can feel your soul… Just as well as I can feel mine. As though our hearts are one in the same. It feels… good.”

“As it should. Love knows no bounds, yes?”

“I could not have said it any better. I must ask you though, Luna. Wherever did I get this scar upon my heart?”

“You have asked me this before. It was a long time ago, Celestia. A time when we were in danger. The only way for me to save you was to bring you here. In the process, you were given that scar.”

“Ah, I see. I wish I could remember those times more clearly.”

“Trust me, dearest sister. As much as it is important to remember our past… You do not want to remember those times. They hold nothing but suffering.”

“Truly? What about the stories you have told me? Of your noctral friends? Would that not be a past worth remembering?”

“… I… Yes. You are right… For them, it is worth everything.”

“I must be off now sister. I’ll return soon. I will keep an eye out for those books you requested.”

“That would be delightful, thank you. Do tell me of your adventures the next time you visit. It is always a joy to hear about your travels.”

“I will. Goodbye, Celestia…”

“… Luna, wait…”

“Yes?”

“I… I don’t know what I would do without you. I am thankful every day to have a sister like you. I love you.”

“I love you too.”

“… Ohhh you were right! It got much warmer on this side.”

“That’s because I’m hugging you, sis.”

“Mhmm… I knew that.”

“Ok. I’ll be off.”

“Will I see you in my dreams tonight?”

“You might. If you lie out in the silver grass and fall asleep under the stars, you may see me.”

“I hope that I’ll see you…”

“Dream or no dream, you will see me again soon. I promise.”

“...Good morning, Luna.”

“…Good night, Celestia.”
