Temptations

Summary: When applejacks grandmother passes she goes into a deep depression and losses almost all connection with all life outside of Sweet Apple Acres. She pushes away all her friends when they try to help but loyal Rainbow Dash keeps a close eye on her one best friend even after the others abandon her. Almost at her limits AppleJack sets hoof in the town of ponyville for Apple Blooms graduation and gets better acquainted to Caramel Apple. Originally starting out as friends Caramel pulls Aj out of her long depression. But when Aj starts to develop feelings for Caramel, Rainbow Dash has a hard time containing her true feelings for her beloved friend.
Chapter one: The Unbearable Silence
Applejack was never the same after the passing of granny smith, at first we thought it was a phase but it dragged on. Weeks turned into months and months turned into years, years full of grief and sorrow. Eventually the farm started to suffer because Aj couldn't look at anything without being reminded of her beloved grandmother.
She doesn't speak much anymore, she doesn't even show herself in public, all she does is buck apples alone in the orchard. We all tryed and tryed again but she would just push us away and there was nothing we could do about it. She never bothered to show herself around town, many even thought she had died. She only stayed in the perimeter of Sweet Apple Acres and rarely left its white picket fence boundary.
I was worried for her, ever since that cold winters night, the night that grannys warm loving heart failed her. I will never forget that day when a whale of agony echo through the small town of ponyville. We all rushed to our friends aid but it was too late. As we barged in the dark oak door there sat AJ turning around with tears staining her orange fur. “shes..shes..” and thats as far as Applejack got before choking on her tears and burying her head into her late grandmother's cold shoulder. I’ve never seen her so sad, not since the passing of her ma and pa many years ago.
The very next day there was a funeral held for the expired Granny Smith, almost everyone in ponyville showed up all saying their goodbyes to the departed mint green mare. Only close friends and family of the apples showed up the the burial ceremony, where every mare, stallion and foal stood silently the only audible sound being faint sniffs and cries from the crowd. First some of the more distant relatives left to get back to their farms before dark, then we left and the closer relatives soon after. Little did they know I hid behind a cloud in the sky and watched. And soon just big Mac, Apple bloom and Aj were left.
Eventually they went back home except for applejack, she stayed for a long time just standing silently. I couldn't bare to see her so upset but event worse I couldn't bare leaving her alone. When she got up and was about to leave she broke down into tears, it was so sudden and unexpected. She was weeping so hard she began to choke on her own tears. Then it got scary when she started to hyperventilate and eventually started losing her balance. I finally decided enough was enough and I needed to calm her down. I swooped in, ready to calm her down but it was too late I couldn't control her.I got especially worried when she started shaking and start flailing uncontrollably. I yelled as loud as I possibly could,”HELP SOMEONE WE NEED A DOCTOR” In a panicked rush of desperation I flew in the air and rushed to the apple family to get help but then I realized they would know I was spying on her. I then flew back to her aid. I was scared, I didn't know what to do so i just sat beside her and stroked her golden mane. It glimmered in the light of Luna’s moon and highlighted her beautiful lime green eyes.
Eventually, when she started to come too, I didn't want her to know I was spying on her so I dashed to the cover of a nearby tree. She woke up almost in relief, like it was all a dream but then she looked to the side and was reminded of the horrible truth.
It was almost painful to watch as she picked herself up and dragged herself back to the farm house.
Every night I still listen as she sobs her eyes out in the loft of the barn. I just want to go inside and give her a hug and tell her everything's going to be okay, but i can’t. You see, applejack never bothered to talk to her friends after the incident. The rest of the mane six have long since abandoned her but i can’t bring myself to do that.
I just want her to be happy, I want to see that bright smile back on her face. I miss her so much and I still cherish the memories of Aj drinking a little too much apple cider and starting a brawl with one of the big stallions, she usually won the fight and that made that much better. But even more than that I miss the devilish grin she gave when she won a round of poker or the I’m gonna beat you glare she gives you went your about to race. I miss the little things, the things that made AppleJack the she pony was before she was sucked into the black hole of grief. But now she finds no happiness even when doing what she loves and I have lost all hope in getting her back, Yet here I am, lying on the barn roof listening to my old friend because I cannot stand the fact of her being alone.
