Fort Hoof
"Sgt. Star and Sgt. Times report to the war room immediately." Somepony said over the loud speaker. I was in the middle of a poker game when it came on and I was winning too. As I was walking to the war room Ginger Times came right up to me. She was a yellow coated Pegasus with a blue mane, god was she cute almost all the stallions in the base loved her.
"I can't believe they pushing us all the way back to Ponyville, its crazy." She told me with a bit of anger in her voice. She always wanted to be on the front line but the princesses thought she was too ruthless. "If I was up there I would leave none of them left."
"That is why you and your team isn't on the front lines." I told her as we rounded the corner to the war room. "Still we need to either kick them out or scary them so they surrender. Princess Celestia needs to understand this plus we can take their land for Equestria." she said while getting in front of me. She blocked my hoof from getting to the handle of the door."Pyre you need to back me with this, all of our families are in Canterlot and you know wants next to Ponyville, Canterlot" She told me letting my hoof though.
"I know I'll support on getting more ponies to the front line. Just don't rely on me to get it though to Princess Celestia." I told her hoping she can understand me about it. One sergeant can't persuade a princess plus its her decision about how many ponies to send.
I open the door to see we were the last ones to get there even Sgt. Heat got there before us and he was a slow stallion. Every team leader was there, even of three princesses and the prince were here, just by the people in the room you could tell it was important. Without us here it was already busy. There were computers lined on the side of the room with every station was a pony. In the middle was a large table with a map of Equestria with different blocks representing the ponies in the field. By the amount of red blocks you could tell we were losing the war.
"Now that every pony is here we can begin." The sun goddess said as we entered the room. Before she continued Sgt. Heat spoke.
"Where is Princess Twilight your highness?" He asked.
"She's in Canterlot overseeing other duties that don't include the war." she told him.
"Anyway, today we start pushing back the enemy." Celestia boomed and everypony started yelling and screaming. "Ok you all had your fun now let's get to work." Princess Luna yelled to get our attention. " 2nd battalion is going around Ponyville and hit them from the east, 1st battalion is going right into them and 3rd battalion is going to attack from the west..." she continued talking but I couldn't hear cause is was too focused on the map what if they skipped Ponyville and went for Canterlot. Ginger saw this made her way to me.
"What's the matter Pyre?" She asked me in a low voice.
"The way the front line is the could take Canterlot without going for Ponyville." I replied lifting my hoof to point this out. "Just look at it."
"I don't see what you mean, Pyre. They can't get past Ponyville without going around Rambling Rock Ridge." She said thinking she found a flaw with my prediction.
"Yah, but when it started they were already in Equestria by the time our forces reached them. Plus they're in the Everfree Forest right, getting ready to attack Ponyville." I told her, showing her what I was talking about.
"Now I see what you mean." she said finally getting what I meant. We didn't even noticed that the room was silent, even the ponies at the computers were silent.
"Sergeants would you like to share what your talking about? It must be important." Princess Luna asked us with a death stare directed at me. It felt horrible that a princess was giving me a death stare.
"Your highnesses I was concerned about the enemy possibly moving around Rambling Rock Ridge to attack Canterlot without having to attack Ponyville." I replied showing everyone with the map.
"I see what you mean, Sister why don't we send 7th battalion to defend?" Princess Luna asked her sister but before she could replied the room erupted with yelling. The computer ponies were trying to get they information though to one of the princesses.
"Silence!" Celestia screamed and they went silent. "You tell what is going on."
"Princess we have a communication from Canterlot" he replied.
"Well put it on the big screen." she told him it took a few seconds to put it on screen but once it did everypony was silent. It was Princess Twilight...with a pistol pointed at her head and a piece of cloth in her mouth. The gun belonged to King Sombra and he was ready to pull the trigger.
"Hello all of you, especially to you Princess Celestia. I hope I didn't startle you." he told us with a chuckle.She don't reply she was in shock by the fact that one wrong word and her favorite student was gone.
"Let her go Sombra, you will only bring your death." Luna threaten which only made him laugh. Sombra then flipped the gun and hit Twilight with the back of the gun which made her start to cry.You could hear her muffled sobs though the cloth in her mouth. Where Sombra hit Twilight there was blood oozing out of the mark. At the same time you could hear Princess Cadence crying as well and if you looked she was facing away from Sombra trying to show no weakness.
"If you want your precious Twilight back you are ether going to kill me or surrender." With that we grabbed Twilight and moved away from the view, before the screen went dark I saw the Canterlot flag falling and that was the last sun fall I saw before battle.

Fort Hoof
Every pony was silent even Princess Cadence, who was crying though the whole message. Princess Luna broke the silence "How... how did he... get there?" She asked turning to look at the table. "I mean look we have the Everfree forest locked down and no reports came from Ponyville that it was taken." she started looking around the table but stopped when she got to Rambling Rock Ridge. "You were right Sgt. Star but who would you know that was what they were going to do?" She asked.
"Will I just looked and..." I stated to explain but Princess Cadence cut me off.
"Sergeant are you working for the enemy?" she asked, every pony stared at me. Why would she think I'm a spy.
"Princess Cadence I'm no spy I can assure you I just thought its possible they could go that way. I mean look at the formation of the front line and when this all started." I told her with confidence.
"I'm sorry Sergeant its just the shock of things." she said.
"Ok sergeant, do you know what to do then." Princess Luna asked me.
"Yes I do, now continue with the first plan including the defensive one but send my team and Sgt. Ginger's team to get Princess Twilight out. Attacking them will create screen to make them think we don't care therefore making them relaxed and vulnerable for stealth extraction.
"I do understand that but what if you or Sgt. Ginger are exposed?" Princess Celestia asked.
"Then deny that we are apart of this operation so no further harm can came to Princess Twilight." I answered.
"Ok, what about extraction? I mean they're bond to notice that she's gone." Princess Luna asked.
"Leave that to me and Sgt. Ginger. We will stay in communication but don't contact us unless necessary." I told her.
"Any more questions about the extraction plan?" I asked every pony. Not one hoof came up. "Ok tomorrow we will start the extra..." a loud boom and red flashing lights stopped me.
"What is going on Lieutenant? " Princess Celestia shouted while being thrown about.
"We're being attacked Princess. North and west walls has beached and firefights in those corridors." he answered
"Ginger lets go." I said going to the door. I could hear the gun fire outside.
"Pyre go I'll catch up." she said. I know what she was going to do she was going to defend the princesses. I turned to the door to be knocked down by an explosion.
All I could see were shadows of ponies going over me heading to the princesses. They weren't really shadows they were black ponies following the flag of Sombra. I could hear gunfire in front of me. Some of them were outside firing into the room. I got up to see that Ginger was engaged in hoof to hoof combat with the black ponies. I turned and drew my knife then threw it at one of ponies. The knife hit him square in the face and the other pony turned to see him fall. With the distraction I tackled him to the ground and pulled my other knife and stabbed him.
"Pyre get over here!" Ginger yelled, I could here the struggle in her voice.
I turned to see Ginger get pinned and battling for control of a knife that was endangering her life. I run over to end up getting whacked by the back of the gun and I fall flat on the ground. I got up to punch the black pony to the ground and see that Ginger is getting over powered, to my guess it was about four inches from her throat. I plowed though the three other black ponies down and tackle Ginger's attacker. I start lowering his own knife to his own throat but something pushes me off. I turn to see that its was Ginger and she was pinning and cuffing him.
"What are you doing Ginger?" I asked but by the time I said that we were tackled by three ponies that I plowed over before. They seem to want me down first by the fact that two of them jumped on me. I struggled and got one of them off which freed my arm. I punch the second one and run to Ginger which was being straggled I do the same thing that he did her I straggled him which killed him. His knife was still on him which I used to kill one of the last soldiers. Ginger tied up the other one and the war room was clear. Every pony was ok just unconscious." Now will you come with me?"
"Yeah that's for the best." she replied with a fearful tone.
"Ginger it's ok lets go." I said then she came with. We were heading for the armory and we met no resistance until we got there. Two of the black ponies were standing outside. "Ginger you take the one on the left and I take the one on the right."
"Ok." She replied
She went ahead and shot the one on the left and I shot the one on the right. We entered to see some of the stallions from my team tied up to the gun rack. We untied them and got geared up.
We head back to the war room and one of the ponies still conscious. Told us that the west hall still had the enemy in it so we head they next. The whole hall was filled with Sombra's soldiers. We engaged in a 1 against 2 firefight. We may have been outnumbered but by the time they fired back they already lost half of the hallway. The firefight was short but brutally for the enemy no pony manage to come close to hitting one of us. There was no more of Sombra's military inside Fort Hoof
Two hours pass by and the base is back on its feet and we got back to the meeting.
"First off is every pony ok?" Princess Cadence asked. All together we all looked horrid but no pony wanted to say that to any of the Princesses.
"I think every pony is ok Princess Cadence." Ginger told her.
"Second off I would like to thank Sgt. Times and Sgt. Star to defending us all in our unconscious state." Princess Luna said to every pony. They room erupted in clapping and yelling.
"We don't need thanks princess we were just doing our job as service ponies." I told them but they still clapped and yelled our names for a few more minutes.
"Ok, ok, let's get back to business. So tomorrow we are going to drop you east of Canterlot and weapons with other equipment will be dropped north of Canterlot. We won't drop the weapons until you are ready to receive them." Princess Celestia told us.
"Got it Princess Celestia." Ginger said
"Wait there is a restriction on your pony count you can't bring more than six ponies including you two." She told us
"We understand Princess." We said in unison.
"You two are dismissed." She said and we exited the room.
We stand outside and talk for a bit just to pass some time. Ginger was shaking out of control.
"Ginger are you ok?" I asked her
"I'm fine but thanks." She said but she didn't stop shaking
"Ginger you shaking like crazy, are you sure your okay? I asked going closer. She burst into tears
"Why did you tell that I'm suppose to face Sombra when I can't even kill a Shadow?" She asked
"Ginger they were strong, made of dark energy, they even took down Big Mac." I told her but that didn't seem to help.
"Still they say I'm fast, that I'm strong but they didn't see what happened in there, story of my life." She said, her face was red. I never knew she doubted herself like this. In fact I didn't know that she didn't all
"Ginger they knew how strong we were so don't beat yourself up like this." I said
"Pyre stop trying to calm me down I'm telling the truth." She said looking away from me.
"Ginger stop this it's not true. You are fast, you are strong." I told her
"Pyre it is true I'm never going to be fast or strong." She said
"Ginger if you want then drop out of the mission." I told her
"Pyre I'm not dropping out I not going to sit by while you die. I can't let that happen." She told me this confused me she never told me this before. I'm pretty sure she never told any pony that. She ran from me before I could speak

Fort Hoof
I couldn't sleep not knowing if it was true. I needed to know because she never says things like that. Ginger surprised me I thought I knew her, but was I wrong. I searched till midnight then I saw her on a bench just sitting there. I walked up to her when I was right behind her I asked " Can I sit down?" I can tell that it startled her.
"Yeah, sure." she said, she sounded sad.
"What's wrong?" I asked. I can't see her like this.
"Everything. Just everything." She said throwing her hoofs in the air. I couldn't tell if she was tired or depressed.
"Why is that." I asked her.
"You've most likely been thinking about what I said earlier right?" She responded
"Yeah why?" I said
"That's why. I didn't want to say that till the war was over. I didn't want to get attached then you come back to me in a coffin." she told me. Tears were forming in her eyes "I didn't want you to be distracted during firefight then come out in a body bag. It would kill me if that happened because of me."
"That won't happen in fact that would make me fight harder then if you told me that before it was over." I told her at this point she put her head was on my shoulder.
"The truth is that I loved sense high school. Every time I saw you my heart skipped a beat." I she told me in a calm tone. "I always saw you taking to other mares you never seemed to notice me in the background." She continued. "I tried to get you to notice me but you never did." She said. I started to laugh. " What do you think that I'm funny telling you that I had a crush on you?" She said with an annoyed tone.
"No its just it felt like you never noticed me." I told her. " I tried to get your attention. I even asked you to the school dance and you said no. Your words were 'Sorry I'm waiting for some pony' ". I said still laughing and she blushed at her mistake.
"Well it didn't help that you looked like many other stallions in school." She said starting to chuckle.
"Oh, soooooooooo many other stallions hade a red coat, dark blue and black mane and a flaming star on their butt?" We were both laughing.
"Well the red coat part, I thought you just had a blue mane and I wasn't looking at butts for cutie marks." She said still laughing.
"Every time I saw you I said 'that is a hot and sexy mare' to my friends. Sometimes one said they agreed then I punched him." I told her.
"I used to say the same thing except mare I said stallion." She told me.
"Well that's obvious." I told her. We stopped laughing now.
"Still, I didn't want to say anything at this point until the war was over." Ginger was now rested her head on my shoulder." I never would have said that today if the siege never happened so you can thank the siege for this."
"When this war is over we can do a real date and not one on a battlefield." I told her. "Now its most likely one in the morning so I'm going to sleep and you better get some rest too." I got up to leave to my quarters but she stopped me.
"Pyre... tomorrow I'm still coming with you. I'll give you the name of the two ponies that are coming with me ok?" She said getting up.
"Ok Ginger sleep well to night." I said and I walked down the hall. I now know shat she meant, she loved me and I loved her back.
I was walking back when some thing come running from down the hall. Someone yelled "Get down sergeant!", I quickly ducked. I heard a gunshot and some pony fall to the ground. I turn to see that it was Princess Luna "Are you okay sergeant?" She said in between breaths.
"I'm fine Princess thank you." I said with gratitude. I drew my side arm and walked over to the creature with it aimed at it. As I got closer and Luna must've used a spell or something because all the sudden I could see. I saw Fleetfoot with a hole in his chest and the mini equestrian flag that was on all uniforms was coming off. I bent down and toke it of to see the flag of King Sombra underneath. "Fleetfoot why did you join against us, your country, your home, your family?"
"He promised safety for us and our families if we helped him." He said in between coughs.
"Still, we could have helped you." I said
"He knows about what your going to do." He told me "Sombra knows all your weaknesses and all six of you are going to die tomorrow if you don't listen." I didn't know if it was the truth or he was trying to get me to stop the mission.
"Fleetfoot your not tricking me into the ending the mission." I told him
"Corporal Fleetfoot can you please tell us anything about Sombra's hold on Canterlot." Luna asked him.
"He knows every pony in Canterlot add he can tell a lie from the truth in a sec." He said then he turns to me.
"Pyre if you get inside go to this address to them that Fleetfoot sent you..." He handed me a piece paper and continued." ... They are a resistance group fighting against Sombra. Don't let Equestria fall to Sombra even if it costs you your life. I gave him fake info about us so don't worry about that." He said.
"Fleetfoot, how long have you been helping him?" I asked. I was shocked at the answer that followed.
"Before the war started." He replied. "Pyre if you get to him, kill Sombra with this gun and say that 'Fleetfoot damns you to hell.' " He said with his last breath. He closed his eyes for the last time. One of my best friends was a spy for the other side. Was we really my friend or just doing the job he was paid to do? I grabbed the gun that he meant, it had his cutie mark on the side.
Luna came up behind me. " I'm sorry for your lose sergeant." she said putting her hoof on my shoulder.
"Thank you Princess, at least we know about these spies now." I said while getting up.
"Pyre, you should get some sleep, you have a long day tomorrow. She said, that was the first time she said my name to me.
"Good night Princess." I said to her before walking away.
That night was very eventful for me. The mare I love turned out to love me too, my best friend was a spy for the enemy, and the risk of not seeing the end to this war increased by 90%. All three of these things haunted my dream at the same time. This night three important things were revealed that changed the way I look at this war.
