My teeth clacked together as my face collided with the cold tile floor. My eyes shot open in shock. A minute ago I'd been sound asleep, and now I was somewhere else entirely. I glanced around and quickly registered that I was in the mall. That in itself was strange, but I found that I was holding onto my iPod, which I hardly ever used. Perplexed, I started furiously IMing my friend Amanda, hoping she could help me figure out what was going on. “Amanda! Are you awake? Something seriously strange is going on...” I sent the IM and waited, glancing through the ceiling at the dark sky beyond. Great, the mall wasn't even open and I was somehow trapped here. I heard footsteps in the distance and quickly jumped to my feet, hiding behind a corner.
“Are you sure he's around here, sister?” One guard asked to her fellow guard, pacing past the storefront in front of me. Her sister nodded affirmatively, glancing around in as many directions as possible. I pressed firmly against the wall hoping they wouldn't see me when suddenly my iPod let out a shrill beep, alerting me of an incoming IM. Resisting the urge to facepalm, I dashed away from the sisters as quickly as my heavy body would allow me.
“Yea... I'm awake Dave. What's up?” The message on my iPod read. I couldn't help but smile at the response, even though it'd got me busted.
“Something strange is going on. I just woke up in the mall and I'm being chased by a pair of guards who are apparently sisters. I figured it was a dream, but then realized it probably wasn't since you're usually in them.” I paused my frantic texting and quickly deleted the last bit. That could've been embarrassing. “Anyways, I don't have time to talk right now since I'm being chased but if you don't hear from me later I probably got arrested or something. Later!” I sent the message and ducked around a corner running as fast as I could, not realizing that it was the hallway to the bathrooms; one with no exit. I noticed at the end of the hall there seemed to be a bright light, almost like a window. I looked back and saw the sisters gaining on me. Taking a deep breath I turned back to see the window again. The colours on the other side of the window were brighter than I was used to and it looked like a painting of a peaceful nighttime glade. I reached the 'window', and reached out to it, my hand going right through it, proving that it was in fact a window. It was a bit small for me to climb through so I backed up towards the sisters again, making sure they weren't too close, then ran forward and dove through, landing on all fours in the glade. I glanced back to see if the sisters were following me, but they were gone, along with the window and the mall. Suddenly I felt very tired, and I watched as the glade spun and faded to black.
“Well.. this dream makes no sense.” I muttered as something pink bounced into my vision, saying something too fast for my fading mind to hear.
“Sister, did we have to scare him so badly?” The shorter guard asked her taller sister.
“Well, I guess not, Luna.” The older sister said, chuckling. “But it's not like we hurt him. We're here to help him after all.”
“We - I know that, Celly, but he seemed terrified. I'm pretty sure somepony-er-something that large is not meant to run that fast.” Her sister chuckled again. “You like teasing other beings don't you sister?” Her sister didn't respond, so she continued. “Do you do this often? Visit this world and chase beings into ours just to cheer them up?”
The older sister chuckled again. “Yes, I do it quite often. It always brings interesting results. Besides I like to test my dear student from time to time.” She grinned, a slight blush on her cheeks. Her sister laughed, and then they both vanished, leaving the mall dead quiet with no evidence of what had happened that morning.
