The Cave of Pearls.
The perfect place for all miss fits, mutants, and monsters alike.
Because no pearl is perfect.
But all are beautiful.
Nightshade knows this. She's spent her life looking out for those who have been cast out by society. Those rejected by friends and family. Those who were pushed, pushed to perfection, pushed so hard that they broke.
They all had the same story. "Once it got out that I was… different… well, things changed."
Then she met Fluttershy. Well, Flutterbat.
The newest pearl.

Nightshade watched the moon rise with a small amount of trepidation, which was very unusual. As a devoted follower of the Lunar Princess, she usually greeted the stars with a grateful smile.

But tonight, she was on duty.

Tonight she would be finding another Pearl.

She knew the royal guard had been alerted to her presence. She knew she would have to act fast, find the Pearl before the Diamonds got to her.

The Diamonds. Those mother bucking plot-holes would not be smashing this one.

The guards, her "friends", even Celestia herself would all agree- Flutterbat would need to be eradicated, like some sort of virus.

Idiots.

A shadow darted across the moon, dancing over Nightshade's line of sight. She spread her deep-blue wings and took flight, clutching a pearl necklace in her hands.

Fluttershy was scared of the bat, scared of the night, scared of herself, and it was their fault. More than anything, Nightshade wanted them to know this.

Wanted Twilight Sparkle to know this.

But mostly, she wanted Fluttershy to know this, to understand this, to understand herself.

"The night is my friend. The Diamonds are my enemies. The Emeralds are no help to me. I am Pearl to the end. The night is my friend. The Diamonds are my enemies..."
