It was a hot sunny day in July. Scootaloo was heading to Sugarcube Corner for a milkshake. All around her there was noise. The buzz of everyone talking, the steady clip-clop of everyone's hoofsteps. Scootaloo smiled and sighed. She looked ahead and saw Diamond Tiara sitting with Silver Spoon watching her like stalkers.
"Sorry, no blank flanks allowed in there" mocked Diamond Tiara.
"Blank Flank!" Echoed Silver Spoon in a nasty tone.
Scootaloo rolled her eyes. "I'm gonna get my cutie mark soon!" She insisted.
Diamond Tiara snickered. "Yeah right".
Silver Spoon shot Scootaloo a dirty look. "You don't even know how to fly!" She mocked.
Scootaloo flinched. It was true. "W-well Rainbow Dash i-is teaching me how!" She said trying to sound bold.
Diamond Tiara smirked. "Rainbow Dash isn't even fast!" She said.
Scootaloo frowned. "She IS fast! Rainbow Dash is the fastest pegasi ever in the whole wide world!" She protested, as she turned around and stomped off. She could still hear the annoying shrieks of laughter coming from behind her. Scootaloo sniffled slightly and began galloping to Twilight's library where Rainbow Dash usually was reading Daring Do books.
Once she entered she was greeted by Twilight Sparkle. "Hello Scootaloo! Rainbow Dash is over there reading. Would you like a book as well?" She asked.
Scootaloo blinked. "Is Dash almost done with the book?" She asked.
Twilight looked over and nodded "nope. She's only halfway through" she said.
"Then sure, I'll take one" said Scootaloo as she went inside. It was nice and fresh in Twilight's library and she could see some other ponies sitting down, reading books. Twilight came back to her. "Here you are" she said as she gave Scootaloo a book titled "Soaring through" Scootaloo went and sat next to Rainbow Dash.
"Hey squirt" said Dash, not bothering to look up from her book.
"Hey Rainbow. Can I get flight lessons today?" She asked hopefully.
Rainbow Dash put down her book. "Sure... let me just finish this chapter" she said.
Scootaloo nodded and looked down at Soaring Through as she opened it and began to read.

Rainbow Dash spread her wings. "Okay. First you gotta try to lift yourself off the ground. Don't be stressed out, just let it naturally happen" she said.
Scootaloo nodded and flapped her wings as hard as she could. She tried to think of something soothing. She thought of being a Wonderbolt and meeting Misty Fly and Spitfire and Soarin and Surprise and all of them. She closed her eyes and felt herself begin to lift slightly off the ground. She opened her eyes in shock. "IM DOING IT IM DOING IT!" She yelled. Suddenly, she dropped down to the ground again. "Aw, horsefeathers!" She complained.
Rainbow Dash chuckled. "Squirt, you had it there! You just need to concentrate" She said.
Scootaloo glared at Dash, her impatient attitude kicking in. "I was thinking of getting to meet the Wonderbolts, but when I felt myself getting off the ground I stopped" she said.
Rainbow Dash sighed. She sat down and put her hoof to her head. "What else should we- I got it! Wing push-ups!" She said quickly.
Scootaloo bit her lip, her eyes wide "Are you sure?" She asked as she put herself in a good wing push-ups position.
Rainbow Dash nodded. "Ten. Ready? Go!" She said.
Scootaloo went down slowly. Her small wings flexed and she went up again. She bit her lip again and screwed her eyes shut as she did it again. When she finished that one, she did it repeatedly for eight more times. There. That was ten. She dropped to the ground with sweat going down her forehead. "That's hard work!" She gasped.
Rainbow Dash grinned. "Are your wings feeling a tad stronger?" She asked.
Scootaloo nodded "definitely!" She said as she stood up again. "Can we do something fun now?" She asked.
Dash thought for a moment. "Well, we could go over to Cloud Chaser and Flitter's house... they have fun techniques" she said in deep thought.
Scootaloo shook her head. "I want YOU to teach me... so when they ask me when I learned to fly so awesomely, I can say your name" she explained.
Rainbow Dash laughed. "Okay then, Kiddo" she said as she looked around. "Lets try getting off the ground again" she said.
Scootaloo nodded in agreement and closed her eyes. "Concentrate and let it naturally happen, right?" She questioned.
Rainbow Dash nodded. "Think about how cool it would be to one day grow up and soar around next to Rumble" she winked.
Scootaloo turned bright red slightly. "H-he does NOT like me" she said.
"Kissy kissy!" Teased Rainbow Dash.
Scootaloo rolled her eyes and smiled. She thought of being part of the Wonderbolts and prefoming in front of Princess Luna or Celestia... maybe even Princess Cadence, and her daughter: Princess Skyla!*. Princess Skyla would be a cutie mark crusader when she grew up! Her and Pumpkin Cake and Pound Cake would be the future Cutie Mark Crusaders! In all her thought, she didn't hear Rainbow Dash's cheers or her getting off the ground by a small length.
"GO SCOOTALOO!" Rainbow Dash's loud cheer pierced her deep thoughts as she realized how high in the system was. It wasn't very far, but any length mattered! Scootaloo went down to the ground and smiled a radiant, happy grin. "I did it, Dash! I did it!" She yelled.
Rainbow Dash smiled again. "Wanna fly REALLY high?" She asked.
Scootaloo nodded her head enthusiastically. "Yes, yeah, Uh-huh!" She said.
Rainbow Dash laughed. "Come on Squirt!" She said as she spread her cyan wings and flew up. Rainbow Dash swooped down and had Scootaloo on her hoof as she raised her high in the clouds.
Scootaloo flapped her wings as hard as she could. She closed her eyes and smiled as the breeze whipped some of her mane strands in her face. She didn't notice Rainbow Dash take her hoof off her. She didn't notice Rainbow Dash slow down. She didn't notice Rainbow Dash' s "Go Scootaloo!" Cheers. She was flying. And she was happy.
