How To Train Your Spike - Part 1
Previous ChapterNext ChapterSpike was in bed, rolling back and forth. He stopped, laying on his back and eyes wide open. He groaned, getting out of bed and through his door. He walked the down the stairs and entered the kitchen, looking around. He opened a cabinet and pulled out a clear glass cup. He walked over to the sink and filled the cup with water. He yawned before taking a sip. He just stood in the kitchen, deep in thought.
"Spikedra..." Spike thought as images of Spikedra's fight with Exmon flashed in his mind. "It's so weird. I-It felt like I was there, but I wasn't. It's as if we were someone... different." Spike took another sip of water.
"Hey, buddy."
Spike quickly turned around, only to see Gumdramon standing in the doorway. "Oh, it's just you." Spike sighed in relief.
"Couldn't sleep?" Gumdramon asked, walking over to the cup cabinet.
"Yeah, I just can't for some reason."
"Is this about Spikedra?" He asked, filling his cup with water.
"How did you-"
"Trust me Spike, when you go through an experience like that, you're gonna have trouble sleeping." He took a quick sip before continuing. "So, what do you wanna know?" He asked, pulling out a chair.
"Why did it feel like I was there, but not at the same time." Spike asked, pulling out another chair.
"That's because we did a special type of fusion, one I haven't done in a long time. It's called DNA Digivolution."
"What's that?"
"It's a lot like normal fusion, but this one doesn't just combine bodies and powers, it also combines minds and souls. We were a fusion of ourselves, but we were also someone new. Spikedra is different from us because he's sort of his own person. Does that make sense?"
"Uh, I think so." Spike replied, scratching his head. "Wait, what are you doing up so late?"
"I'm actually working on something that'll help you control your powers, but we'll do it after school." Gumdramon got up, washed his cup, and put it back in the cabinet. As he walked by Spike, he gave him a quick pat on the head. "You try to get some sleep. We've got a lot of work to do." And with that, Gumdramon left the kitchen, leaving Spike with his thoughts.
"Control my powers?" Spiked wondered, raising an eyebrow.
Gumdramon walked back into his room, quietly closing his door. He then walked over to the closet, which was opened, and walked threw a hidden passageway. He walked down the stairs, entering his secret laboratory. He sat down at a small, metal desk, which was covered with mechanical pieces. He began fiddling with some of them, but stopped. He looked up, seeing a framed picture of him and Fluttershy. He looked down a little to see the locket she gave him. Tears began to form in his eyes before placing his head in his head, sobbing.
"W-Why?... WHY?!" He cried, slamming his desk. He laid his head down on the desk and began pulling his spines.
Spike was sitting at his desk, trying to balance a pencil on his snout. It fell off, causing Spike to get irritated.
"Psst, Spike!"
Spike looked around to see who was talking to him. It a second, but he saw that Apple Bloom was the only one turned towards him. "What?" He whispered back.
"Could I borrow a pencil?"
He rolled his eyes before digging through his backpack. He pulled out another pencil and reached out to give it to her. She took the pencil with her mouth and Spike could swear he heard a mumbled thank you from her.
Before he knew it, Spike was hit in the head with a crumpled up piece of paper. He looked around, but couldn't tell who threw it. He unwrapped it, seeing that it was actually a note. "Apple... Lover?" He read, raising an eyebrow. He looked around the class again.
"Spike, is there a problem?" Miss Cheerilee asked, sitting at her desk.
"Uh, n-no." He replied, putting the note away. He couldn't help but hear someone laugh before he went back to work.
*DING DONG*
"Alright everypony, lunch time!" Miss Cheerilee shouted from the doorway. Before she knew it, she was almost trampled by her students as they rushed out of the school house.
Several ponies were sitting on the grass, while only a few were sitting at the picnic tables. Most of them were eating sandwiches. Others were eating random fruits and veggies. Spike and Apple Bloom were sitting together on the grass under a tree.
"So... where's Sweetie and Scootaloo?" Spike asked before taking a bite of his sandwich.
"I think Rarity wanted to make sure Sweetie was alright after the party last night." Apple Bloom answered, sipping some of here apple juice. "And I think Scootaloo had to help her parents around the house."
"Huh, guess that answers that."
"Now it's my turn to ask ya a question." Apple Bloom said, turning to Spike. "What was it like when ya'll were fused?" She asked excitedly.
"It's a little hard to put to words, but I guess the best way to explain it is that we were someone else." Spike said, backing away a bit.
"Cool! Hey, I'm not feelin' that hungry, you want me apple?" She asked, pulling out an apple out of a brown paper bag.
"Sure!" Spike quickly grabbed the apple, taking a big bite out of it. "Mmm, your family makes the best apples!"
"Well, we make the only apples in Ponyville, but thanks." Apple Bloom added, blushing a little.
"Well, well, well... I knew you were an apple lover!"
Spike turned towards the source of the voice, frowning immediately after he saw who it was.
"What do ya want Diamond Tiara?" Apple Bloom asked, annoyed by her appearance.
"You know, I always knew that two freaks like you would be desperate enough to go out with each other." She said, pointing at the two of them, causing them to blush.
"H-Hey, we're not dating!" Spike argued, standing up.
"So... what? Does that mean you think she's too ugly, even for you?"
"W-what?" Spike back up, blushing.
"I totally get it. I mean, even a hideous dragon knows better than to date somepony like you!" She continued, pointing at Apple Bloom.
Apple Bloom looked at Spike only to quickly look away. She began tearing up.
"Hey! That is not what I meant! Apple Bloom is so much prettier and kinder than you'll ever be!" Spike retorted, causing Apple Bloom to look back up.
"Wait, are you saying that you'd date... Apple Bloom?" Diamond Tiara raised an eyebrow at him.
Spike looked back at Apple Bloom and then at Diamond Tiara. "Yes, yes I would!" Spike said, blushing a little.
"Good, you two freaks deserve each other. Apple lover!" She shouted before walked away.
Spike turned back to Apple Bloom, who was still blushing.
"Y-You didn't have ta lie Spike." She said, looking down at the ground.
"I-I wasn't lying!" He quickly retorted. "I-I mean, I would date you, but not right now. I mean, wait, let me try to-" He was stopped by a hoof covering his mouth.
"It's alright Spike. I know ya like Sweetie."
"Y-You do?! H-How?!" He asked, panicking.
"You were talking in your sleep during the sleepover." She said, causing Spike to smack his face. "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me."
"R-Really?" Spike asked, receiving a nod as a reply. "Thanks Apple Bloom!" Spike gave her a quick huge.
"No problem." She then walked a little closer to Spike. "So, I'm cuter than Diamond Tiara, huh?" She teased him.
"W-Well, I mean-"
*DING DONG*
"Oh would you look at that! Better head back to class! See ya!" Spike quickly said before running off.
"Hey!" Apple Bloom shouted, running after him.
