Button Mash learned affection!
But Button already knows four moves
“No it’s not, it’s got HD graphics too! And gyroscopes!”
“Yeah? And what do those do?”
Button looked at the filly perplexed, a dumb founded look on his face, nobody could be that dumb, surely, could they?
“It’s a whimsy shifty thing, so if I push it to one side the screen shifts with it.” – Button smiled as he got a hold of his partner’s hoof and gently glided them in shifting the angle of the device. “Like this!”
Diamond Tiara had some notion of what a gyroscope was and how it worked, her dad had gotten her the newest console (along with the rival consoles as well), and she had messed around with it, for a few hours, until she had gotten bored, but her attention at the moment wasn’t entirely fixed on the small screen she held, along with Button. What had started as a bit of teasing, a sort of “Look what I’ve got!” had turned into a very dear, close moment. Button kept rambling about the issues and pros of this 3d portable device, but she wasn’t listening, not anymore. Her entire world sounded muffled, like she was underwater.
“...did you catch all that?” – Button, at last, asked. He looked out of breath, and he was out of breath, he had been talking at about a thousand words for minute, and, even if Tiara had listened, she probably wouldn’t have gotten it all.
But she, with her head in the clouds and a butter heart nodded.
“Whoah, you must really like videogames! You look like you won the jackpot!”
“Y...yeah”
Diamond felt her knees bend and she slid down the wall until she had her legs spread out and her head against it.
Somehow the little bugger of a boy had gotten to her, but how?
Button sat next to her, screen in hand (well hoof), sound effects from games almost 30 years old, shouted from the console. He occasionally twisted or turned the device, and sometimes he tapped into the bottom screen, His tongue out of his mouth, his eyes fixated, only his hooves moving, he was certain, and more, that he was about to win, the timer trickled down into his final seconds and he desperately tried to press the run button, if only he could defeat one more enemy....
The death sound hit him as the timer reached 0. It was his last life and he was near the final boss, but now he had to start from the beginning.
“Oh, c’mon!” –He shouted, and Tiara, who had been sneaking looks when she was sure he was focused on the game, gave out a small snicker .
“What? Do you want to try and save the princess from the evil ox-turtle-dragon thingie?”
Diamond laughed again, and this time she didn’t even put a hoof over her mouth to cover it, it was funny, but....nevertheless Button seemed to take offense.
“Are you by chance laughing at me?”
“No....no...” – Diamond Tiara fought to keep her composure, and calm, but the way Button had pushed his chest outwards (aided by the fact he was on two legs) made him look even more ridiculous.
“Then what are you laughing at, m’lady? Laughing at shadows is hardly normal”
Button had this thing, he liked roleplaying, and, with all the games with rpg elements (which he rarely played, not having the patient) and medieval themed games, he had learned to pretend to be a knight, only his kid true form still broke through on occasion.
“I mean, if we must go to an asylum, I will carry you on my mighty hum....wheelbarrow” – He said, looking at the only thing he could find that could push her.
“No, it’s just....you sounded like that sweetie Dork!”
“Oh c’mon!” - He shouted again, his voice once again breaking the scale of high octaves.
“You see?”
“Well yeah, I’m a growing boy, and growing boys change voices, what are you so grown up on?”
Diamond Tiara looked at the “Growing boy” as he called himself in disbelief, was he, by chance, doubting her growth? She took his hoof in one hand and pushed them slowly towards her target, the rib cage.
“You see this heart? It’s pumping hundreds of hundreds of hundreds of hormones of growing up through me, in a few years I’ll be bigger than your mom” – She was sure her logic was faulty, and science didn’t work that way, but, Button never played attention he just played games with his device’s sound turned off. So he was unlikely to know better.
“That’s not how it works” – He shock his head – “You have to earn xp. Or affection, or good karma” – He smiled. - “Do you know how you get affection, Diamond?”
Diamond didn’t know, know, but she had a pretty good idea, and her heart kept on beating, and her cheeks reddening, and she was pretty sure one way or another she would find out, and she still wondered how she had been put in this situation.
She had been bored, so she had sneaked in the portable device to school, it was her, and the newest model. Then she had made sure every kid could stare at it and be jealous, as she played, though she died often, since she wasn’t that much of a great player. Then Button had approached her to tell her how awesome the console was, and they had talked about gyroscopes, and now....now it was affection they were talking about.
“....well do you?”
His breath was in her nose, and she could smell juice boxes, grape. She never liked grape very much but on him it suited him, somehow, she approached even more, so their eyes could meet”
“I don’t” – She admitted to him, as she closed the distance. – “But I’m sure you’ll know.”
Then their lips meet, and Button kept on kissing, imitating what he saw on his videogames, unfortunately, most of his videogames , the ones he hadn’t sneaked, ended with a kiss on the cheek and not a full on make out session, so Diamond took the lead.
When they split up, Button felt his heart beating faster and faster, to him, that could only meet one thing, one, he had done the girlfriend sidequest, two....
“LEVEL UP! AWESOME!”
