Ponémon: Beginnings!by TheEmberManChaptersI'm Ready!Copper, Tin, And Brass! The Helium Forest!I'm Ready! The room was filled with a faint blue light as the television flickered with movement. Magazines titled Ponémon littered the room with their enthusiastic colors and eye-catching covers. The whole room was a complete mess of random souvenirs and toys, each and every one connected to Ponémon in some form. A young colt was spread out in front of the television, his naturally brown-gold pelt was now an unnerving blue from the television coloring him with its dark lighting. On the projection was a significantly older pony wearing a white lab coat, holding a laser-pointer and giving recognition to three perfectly round spheres placed on a podium. "...as the new wave of Ponémon Trainers comes along, do remember the basic rules of picking Ponémon. Only one starter, and it must be among these three. Say hello to the wonderful classics, Trice, Fru, and Alope!" exclaimed the older scientist-pony. The oddly shaped red-white balls suddenly popped open, releasing a bright flash of light. What appeared were three mysteriously odd creatures. The first was a chicken-snake like creature, and as all new Ponémon trainers know, this was known as the Cockatrice Ponémon! The second one was a red bird creature, but with leathery skin rather than noticeable feathers. This adored creature is known only as the Fruit Bat Ponémon. The final mystery of a being was a strange rabbit with obvious horns. To many Ponémon trainers and fanatics, this was known as the Jackalope Ponémon. The young colt suddenly shot up on his hind hooves, his off-white mane flipping back as he raised. He slapped on a black cap, and threw his hoof into the air. "Finally! Tommorow is the day I've been waiting for all my life! The day I get my very first Ponémon!" he exclaimed, his hoof in agony from the stretching "I, Brass, of the town of Littlehoof, in the name of pokemon, here-by promise, I will be the best Ponémon trainer to ever-" the brown pony by the name of Brass was quickly interrupted when an older mare stormed into the room. "Brass! It's 11:00, and you should be in bed!" huffed the mare, her bright white coat and mane fluffed out slightly when she spoke. "But mom!" young Brass pouted "Tomorrow I start my Ponémon adventure, I can't sleep!" The mare sighed exhaustedly, sick of the fumes of excitement emitting from her son. "Fine," Brass' mother picked up the remote and changed the channel, this time to a more educational program, "Go to bed when this is finished, and change into your pajamas." His mother trotted out of the room. With a smile brighter than the sun, stared intensely at the projected image. What will become of this young colt? What will his adventure entail, and what friends will he make on the way? Find out in the first installment of Ponémon: Beginnings! Copper, Tin, And Brass!Brass trotted along the dirt pathway through Littlehoof, unaware of the encouraging looks he was receiving with his enthusiastic grin. He left perfectly rounded hoof-prints in the even soil, and left small clouds behind him as he made his way through the small town of country-ponies. Two noticeably younger fillies wandered up to Brass and attempted to match his pace. Both had wide, hope-filled eyes, leaving the deadly mark of cuteness on Brass' subconscious as they continued. "Hey Brass!" the first one requested his attention with a excited smirk. "You should totally show me your Ponémon when you get it!" Brass didn't cease his movement or turn to the younger "I don't know Salt" he replied with little effort to breath "I may just take my new Ponémon and be on my way. I have a lot of catching and exploring to do." "Aw c'mon Brass!" spoke the even younger filly, her voice squeaky but disappointed "We don't want to wait to see a cute Ponémon! It's not fair!" This caused Brass to think for a little ways on the decision. It would be rude to his younger sister if he kept his new treasure from the eyes of his blood-relatives. Without a few more moments of speedy movement forward, Brass sighed the little breath he had, and made his choice. "Quit your pouting Tin," hoarsely replied Brass with amusement in his voice, "Look, if I have time, I'll come and show my new Ponémon to you guys, but I'm already running late." "YAY!!" cheered the two young fillies in unison, as they stopped in their tracks and let Brass be on his way. The shout was enough to cause looks of concern and irritation amongst the many ponies ahead of them. It was also enough to leave a harsh ringing in Brass' fragile ears. More ponies waved and greeted towards Brass as he marched along, but no one attempted to stop him. It was this time of the year, when all the new trainers were collecting their first Ponémon, that they shouldn't be disturbed or stopped for any reason. Each and everypony in Littlehoof knew this, and strayed from the rule. One pony in particular gave young Brass recognition as he continued along, tipping his cow-colt hat at the recruit trainer with a smile and short greeting. Without even a glance backwards, he made his way up the hill to the town Ponémon expert, Professor Pine! On the way, another pony with an off-white coat and dirty-brown hair crossed paths, but turned to speak. "Yo, Brass!" called the other pony, a satisfied smile on his face. "Running a little late there!" "Yeah, I know, got caught up in a few things. Any Ponémon left?" replied Brass with a quick turn. "I don't want to miss out on an adventure." "Maybe, Pops always has a spare Ponémon for anypony who misses the time. He should have something for you!" answered the young colt, trying to catch his breath. "Hey thanks Hydro!" the sound was somewhat forced from Brass' mouth, still short of breath himself. He quickly turned back to his task with determination, and the two ponies went about their business. Professor Pine stood over his metallic desk, cautiously carrying a mysterious and murky green liquid in a test-tube. He slowly attempted to drip the material over a few berries that sat before him, paying close attention to his surroundings. Sweat dripped down his face, for one false movement could cause him to implement too much into his strange concoction. There was complete silence and still-ness, for nothing would dare disturb the professor in this important task. Cautiously, ever-so-cautiously he began to drip... Slowly, slowly... The door burst open with an obnoxious clang, and in stepped a brown-coated pony. Sweat dropped from him furiously, and he seemed as though he were about to lose consciousness. Professor Pine dropped his mysterious liquid onto the red berries on the table. They began to grow rapidly, filling up the entire table and collapsing under their own weight, falling off the stems and splatting against the table with incredible force. "Huh..." Prf. Pine stared at the oversized berries in confusion, "So that's what would happen. Very interesting." "PROFESSOR PINE" exclaimed Brass in a panic. "DO YOU HAVE ANY PONéMON LEFT?" Brass grabbed the collar of Pines lab coat and shook him violently. "DO YOU?!" "Yes, yes! I do! You can stop freaking out!" Pine replied in fear, and dropped on his fours when Brass released him in relief. He slicked back his pure-white hair, and joggled himself to fix his eyesight. "Now... Brass, since you were as late as you were, I only have one Ponémon remaining. I'm sure he'll be fine for you though." "Who is it Professor?" inquired Brass, still trying to catch his breath. Pine didn't reply, but instead pushed a red button under a metallic podium, and up raised a second stand, once again holding a red-white ball. Professor Pine pushed the small button on the front of the contraption, and it flicked open instantly, releasing a bright white flash. When the brightness cleared, there stood a small black creature, with large glowing green eyes, and bug-like wings. It had small fangs jutting out of it's jaw, but with this intense look, it still stared happily at both the Professor and Brass. That wasn't what Brass had first noticed, though... "Uh, Professor?" Asked Brass "Yes?" Replied Pine. "Is a Ponémon supposed to have holes all over it's body like this?" "Don't worry boy, it's just Changelis, the Changling Ponémon. I refer to him as Gaegil though." "Is this... my Ponémon?" Brass' eyes went wide with enthusiasm. He admired the sleek intimidating look of the creature before him, much more intimidating than a Fruit-bat or a Jackalope. "Yes, yes it is Brass." Professor Pine turned to him, holding out a small red machine and copies of the small red-white ball that sat on the podium. "And here is your PonéDex and Ponéballs. This should get you started on your adventure throughout Equestria." Brass took the items out of Professor Pines hooves and placed them in his saddlebags. "Now, take your Ponémon and go explore. You can get in touch with me at any time, just call this number." Pine handed him a small slip of paper with a series of digits written on it. Same as the other objects, it ended up in his saddlebags. "I personally have work to do, so you have fun out there, okay?" "Yes sir! Thank you Professor!" Brass waved goodbye to the town Expert, and trotted out the door and down the hill. Soon after reaching the bottom of the hill, he turned to his left and made his way towards Helium Woods, ready to begin his journey. His pride was shining as he greeted the Ponémon filled forest. Now begins the epic adventure of our daring hero, Brass. Let's see what will become of him, shall we? The Helium Forest!Brass wandered slowly, Gaegil trotting along-side him as they made their way through the forest. Brass was slightly concerned by the fact that his only Ponémon matched his height. But what concerned him more was the fact that Gaegil looked all too much like any other pony, which could cause some confusion amongst opponents. He attempted to push these thoughts out of his head, and focused on the journey ahead of him. He recalled the map studies he had done in his younger years, and understood that he was making his way to Manter City, a large metropolis area designed to help trainers on their way. Determination sparking through his eyes, he continued his way for a short while longer, before turning himself towards Gaegil, still happily following along. "Huh... I wonder..." muttered Brass, removing his PonéDex from his saddlebags and aiming it at Gaegil who stared at it with a questioning look. "Changelis, the Changeling Ponémon. It's odd body-design allows quick movements in battle with little effort. This same design causes it to take more damage upon hits, making it useless in brute-fights. It is also a master of deception and mimicking, allowing it to take form of an opponents Ponémon, or the form of an opponent itself." The PonéDex displayed a few options as follows: Move-set Leveling Evolution Tree Trainer Relations "Hm..." sighed Brass, pulling his cap upward to get a better view of the options. "Alright then, Move-set" "This Ponémon currently understands the following moves; Bite, a harsh attack that has the power to cripple it's enemy if done correctly. Transform, a move in which the Ponémon takes on the shape and move-set of it's opponents Ponémon for the remainder of the battle." "Alright... fair enough. What about... Leveling." "This Ponémon is currently level two, having only the basic skill set and a standard level up rate of 1x. It requires only eighteen experience until it levels up again." "Huh. How is it this PonéDex knows so much?" Brass pondered this for only a few moments. He turned to see Gaegil happily prodding the ground with a stick. Brass returned to his PonéDex, and in turn made his decision. "Evolution Tree." "This Ponémon's full Evolution Tree is currently unknown, but it has been discovered that the young Changelis evolves into the much more powerful Changler. The move-set of Changler is currently unknown." Brass looked at the final option, unsure whether it would be a good idea to ask or not. He wondered what his Ponémon truly thought of him, but was afraid all the same. He thought of what would happen if his Ponémon actually despised him, considering he had no means of defense against his own Ponémon. After minutes of thinking, he decided it was for the better if he knew, so he could be prepared against any sort of threat. "...T-Trainer Relations..." he finished finally, stuttering to get the words out. No sound emitted from the PonéDex, but instead it displayed a single word under the image of Changelis. Enthusiastic Brass and Gaegil continued along the path for a short time before hearing a small flutter in the bushes nearby. Brass turned to the bushes in a gasp, noticing the only thing that could excite him more than beginning his adventure. "A Ponémon!" He exclaimed, flipping back his cap, and said with a commanding voice, "Go, Gaegil!" Gaegil stepped forward, and both with determined looks in their eyes, the fight had begun... a mysterious but exciting theme began to play in the background A wild Spritter appeared! Spritter was added to the PonéDex. Brass sent out Gaegil! Gaegil (57/57) vs Spritter (???/???) Spritter used chomp! (-5 hp) "Argh!" gasped Brass "I'll need to be faster next time. Gaegil, use bite now!" Gaegil used bite! (-12 hp) Spritter used chomp! "Quick Gaegil, dodge and use bite again!" Spritters attack missed! Gaegil used bite! (-10 hp) "Alright Spritter, you're mine!" "Go! Ponéball!" The small bug creature was instantly encased by the red-white ball, and it dropped to the floor, flashing. It blinked once, twice, three times, then stopped abruptly... along with the music. "Alright! Spritter was caught!" Brass picked up the Ponéball, now the home of his newly captured Ponémon. He stared at it with pride in his eyes, then turned towards Gaegil. Gaegil sat on his hind legs and held one hoof up to Brass, who quickly returned the gesture. "Good job Gaegil. We caught our first Ponémon! We're off to a great start!" Brass complimented Gaegil, placing the Ponéball into his saddlebags. "Now we just have to make it to Manter City, and catch any Ponémon we find along the way. We'll do great!" Gaegil let out a small squee-noise in response, and the two continued down the path with haste.
