Today was the day, spike thought to himself. Today couldn't go wrong i have to get these gems to her. Spike kept walking along the main road to rarity's house. Holding jewels that she adored so much. He just wanted to show to her that he cared for her. As he walked along he could smell the cakes that the pies were baking up and his stomach rumbled. Without hesitation he stopped by to get a cake or to. As soon as he set foot inside he could smell all of the goodies. The angel cake with chocolate frosting sitting on top of the main counter. The smell of pinkies cupcakes, the brownies and the chocolate chip cookies. He wasn't after those though. He was after the ruby ice cream cake slice that he so dearly loved. He walked right up to the colder area of the bake shop and he took the slice off the counter. When he turned he almost jumped. Pinkie standing right in front of him with the huge grin on her face scared him. He caught the gems before they fell and the slice of cake stayed steady on his hand. "how are you doing spike. haven't seen you around in about two days." All she had to do was look down and she understood what was going on. The grin on her face grew wider. Spike just sat there sweat beading down his forehead hoping that she wouldn't tell rarity what he was bringing for her. Pinkie read his mind as if he just said it aloud to her. She looked him square in the eyes and said "Don't worry spike i won't tell her i swear. Besides i think she is going to love them. But just be careful with her it could hurt you more than it could help you to have this crush on her." Spike just looked at her in question and asked "What are you talking about pinkie i am careful but she is like a gem i don't know how else to show her. Besides i think she already knows but just please don't tell her, and where do i pay for this slice of cake I'm hungry" As if he were timing this his stomach growled loudly. all pinkie could do was giggle at the sound of it. it brought a smile to spikes face knowing that she was always so happy about everything. He put down the gems to pull out three bits for her and quickly swiped them back up. as fast as spike bought the cake it dissapeared even faster. Spike walked out with a grin on his face and kept walking along to rarity's house.spike came close when he saw sweetie belle and the other crusaders playing out in the field at the edge of the ever free forest. Spike ran over there and when he got there he heard a raspy voice snapping at them. He couldn't help but sit and listen to what it was saying to the crusaders. "I need you three to get me that sad friend of yours. He is the key to me breaking through to her and you know it." Spike started to back away until he heard apple bloom talk back to the voice. "I would never do somethin' like that to hurt my friends no matter what you say and sweetie belle and scoot'a'loo here agree with me." The other to shook their heads in agreement. Just then a shadow loomed farther to the edge of the forest and spike jumped, dropping all the gems onto a rock sitting right below him. the crusaders jumped around to see who it is. when they saw spike the urged him over to talk with the voice they were fighting with.
As spike walked cautiously towards them his heart started to race. He could sense an evil presence but it was vague. When spike could see what he was up against. It was something that he only thought existed in the few books that twilight owned. All it was was a puff of smoke that changed color constantly and inside it were nightmares and darkest secrets. The thing though was that only you could see them and the aura around this thing was so strong it made spike hold his stomach. As the puff spouted at the crusaders some more, "Look you three fools i know that he is near i can sense him but his aura is too strong to pinpoint directly."
The crusaders started to back up against a tree and the puff cackled. it started to move closer to them and spike just sat there hoping that it would fly off. The crusaders start jumping on each others head and screaming frantically. Spike finally steps out and throws a rock at the puff. Feeling its sights turn towards spike he starts to regret it. But he doesn't hold his ground. He stands up and clenches his claws into a fist. "You leave those three ponies alone. They haven't done anything to hurt you."
The crusaders flee and spike wished he could do the same thing but he had to stay until he knew they were safe. "You know fool i wasn't going to hurt them i was just going to frighten them until they told me where you were hiding. now that you're here i don't have to do the hard part.
