Chapter 1

Finally, the day had come. Rainbow had been waiting not only the months of training, but her whole life: the day for the Wonderbolts tryouts. The one chance she would have to finally fulfill her lifelong goal to become a Wonderbolt. If she blew it, then she would never be able to face them again, let alone gain the spot on the team.

“It’s okay Rainbow, everything is going to be okay” Rainbow told herself before she was going to leave for the tryouts. “You’ll be fine. You’ve gone over the routine hundreds of times, perfecting every part of it.”

Then again, there were other reasons for her wanting to become a Wonderbolt. Yes, she did enjoy the fame and fortune, and wished for that, but also, she wanted to get to know Spitfire. The yellow pony just made her heart flutter, the way she was graceful, yet so dangerous and fast. This is why she had put in so many months of training, to get closer to her.

As she began to leave, she took one last look at her cloud home.

“Okay Rainbow. You got this far. Now just head over to the Cloudiseum, and show them what you have. Spitfire will be watching, so it may be your only chance to ever impress her.” Rainbow reassured herself.

Rainbow glanced at the clock. Tryouts started at 11:00, and it was 10:58! She only had two minutes to get there, and it was over a mile away! Rainbow took off as fast as she could, but was trying her best to conserve energy for her performance. The clock ticked to 11:59, and she was only a quarter of the way there! She gave it all she had, no longer trying to save energy. She could feel the cone beginning to form around her, which could mean only one thing was coming; a sonic rainboom. She could see the Cloudiseum coming into view, and hurried her way over. The cone became increasingly tight around her, and she could feel the break in sound. Then it happened. The sonic rainboom streaked the sky, filling it with millions of colors, vibrant in every way. She tried her best to slow down, but she wasn’t quite there yet. As she began to increase her speed, she felt a second cone forming around her.

“Well, that’s new. Guess we’ll find out what happens with a second one.” The thoughts rushed through her head. “Almost there. Just a few hundred yards away…”

Rainbow felt the cone squeeze her, tighter than ever. The cone exploded around her, and as the second sonic rainboom appeared, so did another ring of colors: a double sonic rainboom.  Finally, she had made it.

Rainbow thought she heard thunder. But it didn’t make sense. She had taken care of all the duties for weather yesterday. Then she looked down. Every pony, hundreds of them, possible candidates for the Wonderbolts team were clapping. They had all seen what she had just performed, and even a few of the Wonderbolts clapped, including Spitfire.

“Wow, I must have done something amazing, to get everyone to clap.” Rainbow told herself. “That must have been some serious flying to gain that much attention.”

As she landed, the ponies all were screaming her name. Then she heard a loud beeping noise. She shook her head, yet the noise kept beeping.

“Kinda sounds like my alarm.” The noise increased, until it seemed as though it were in her head. She felt a stirring in her head, and became dizzy. “What’s going on” Rainbow wondered. Then Rainbow woke up.
