As the World Goes On Without Me...

Prologue: The Accident

It was a bright and sunny day, an ordinary Friday, an ordinary trip to Cloudsdale. My parents are divorced, so this has become a regular practice  for me, my sister, and my brothers. The only thing that seemed to indicate any bad things was that one, lone storm cloud, looming over to the northeast...

But that's besides the point. Welcome to the everyday life of me, Neon Shadow, the one pony in Equestria that wishes they could change their coat color. To something that's not neon yellow.

   Such a bright, sunny day...

We had come to the familiar drop-off point, but something seemed... off. Like that feeling that you know something bad's going to happen, but you don't know how. Well, little did I know, that feeling was going to change my life forever...

   For the worse.

And nothing could stop it. Not Celestia, nor her sister, nor any normal pony.

As we had just set down on the fluffy cloud, we could see our mother, off in the distance. We waved to her, she waved back. Nothing else could have been more innocent than that seemingly meaningless gesture. While we were doing that, some idiot from the Cloudsdale weather team had decided that now was a good time to set that storm cloud in motion, while he was unaware of the 5 pegasi in the direct path of the aformentioned storm cloud.

I knew something was wrong when the wind all around us started to pick up. I asked one of my brothers what was going on, but he didn't listen. None of them did. As the wind grew stronger, the more worried I was getting. They noticed, too, but, to no avail. The storm was getting wilder, the winds faster than before. I wanted to believe that this was all a dream, a horrid, horrid dream, but the wind blowing through my fur was proof enough that this was no nightmare (Luna would have picked up on it anyway.) This was getting far too dangerous for me, so after thinking about it not einmal, nor zweinmal, not even dreimal, but not thinking at all when I jumped off that cloud. The next instant, I was blinded as a bolt of lightning hit the cloud that held me and everything dear to me just a moment ago. The world seemed to go in slow motion, the smoldering remains of one of my brothers falling through the cloud. The rest of my family followed soon after, their bodies in the same lifeless limbo the first one was. As they fall to the ground, I realize that nothing seemed wrong about their bodies. Particularly, their faces. They seemed to only have a questioning look, like "Where's Neon?", or "Why is the wind picking up?", or even better, "Why is that bolt of lighting getting bigger?"

As they fell to the ground, I opened my wings to bled off some speed, and to position myself to where I projected their bodies would hit the ground. As i touched down, the first thing I heard was crunch. It was my mother's foreleg.

That was the last thing I remember before blacking out.
