Today was a special day in Equestria. The youngest daughter of the king and queen was celebrating her cute-ceañera. Just recently, the young princess was able to raise the moon all by herself, earning her a night sky and moon cutie mark. When asked where she wanted to celebrate, the princess decided to celebrate in a place called Ponyville. "Why do I have to wear this fancy dress?" asked Princess Luna. Ever since her youth, Luna never liked being fancy or frou-frou. She liked how Ponyvillians were always so simple yet happy, unlike many of the snobbish nobles in Canterlot.
"Because, you are a princess. You have an image to preserve." replied her mother, Queen Sunshine.
"But I want to look like the ponies from the town. They are gonna be my guests" said Luna.
"Lulu, we have to make sure that everypony knows that you are a princess." said Princess Celestia, Luna's older sister. Luna knew that she couldn't win this argument, so she just harrumphed. As always, her family had to look better than everypony else. Even though everypony knows that she and her family were royalty, for some reason, they all believe that they were treated equally. Luna never understood how anypony was so blind.
"Please?! You promised that when I get my cutie mark I could finally make friends." said Dusk. He was a bat pony that was adopted by a kindhearted couple. He was left alone after birth due to his deformed left wing. Unlike most ponies, his adoptive mother and father accepted him even if he was a bat pony. In this point in time, bat ponies, along with a few other ponies, were treated as outcasts.
"Dusk, I know we promised, but you know how ponies treat your kind." said Rose Heart.
"But I thought ponies were treated equally." said Dusk.
"Well, that's something that has confused me for a long time." said Night Frisk.
"How about if I cover my wings with one of your coats?" asked Dusk. For all his life, he has been kept inside this home, his parents feared that if somepony saw his wings they would banish him to a faraway land or something. After a while of stubbornness, convincing, and tantrums, Rose and Night finally agreed. "Yes! Now I can go to the Princess' cute-ceañera!"
"Whoa there! Who told you about that?" asked Night Frisk.
"It was in the newspaper. It says that everypony in Ponyville is invited. I might make friends at the party." said Dusk.
"Oh alright, but be careful." said Rose Heart. Dusk was overjoyed, he finally had a chance to make friends. He started to get his best-looking clothes (which weren't that good anyway).
Princess Luna and her family landed their carriage near the entrance of the town hall. As they finalized everything for the party, some guests started arriving. The royal family sat down in the front of the hall, while the current mayor and other important ponies of the town sat somewhat near them. The rest of the seats were filled in an instant. Those who were earlier got to sit nearer to the royal family. Those who were not as fortunate did not even get seats. Among those ponies were none other than Dusk's family. As soon as everypony got settled down, Luna's father, King Moonlight, talked. "Welcome my loyal subjects to my youngest daughter's cute-ceañera. I hope you will all enjoy the feast we have prepared and hopefully, we will get to know each of you better." said King Moonlight. After is introduction, Princess Luna started to talk.
"Hello everypony! I am so glad that you all could make it. I am sure that I'm gonna make tons of friends tonight." said Luna. As soon as she sat down, everypony got their food.
"Hey dad, do you think I can befriend the princess?" asked Dusk.
"Son, she's a princess. Her friends have to be high-class." replied Night Frisk.
"But, she said she wanted to make friends." retorted Dusk.
"Dusk, you can't befriend somepony way above your league. The only thing you can do is respect her and bow when she passes by, okay?" asked Rose Heart.
"Okay, I guess I can befriend somepony else." said Dusk.
The party was swell. Everypony enjoyed... well, mostly everypony. Princess Luna hated how everypony bowed to her. She was just young filly who wanted friends. Why did everypony treat her so differently. She knows that she is a princess, which means being respected and stuff, but she still wanted to be treated somewhat like a regular pony. Whenever she tried to join in on other foals' games, they would always just bow and stop playing. She did not like this.
Another pony didn't enjoy either. Dusk couldn't make an friends. Everypony was so amazed with the royal family that nopony noticed him. Eventually though, Princess Luna walked up to him and asked him if he wanted to be friends. Dusk, remembering what his parents said, just bowed and politely declined. Inside his mind, he really, really, wanted to accept the princess' offer but he had to obey his parents. Besides, what could he possibly do to please or entertain the princess anyway? He was shocked when the princess shouted and ran away from him after he said no. "What was that about?" asked Dusk.
Princess Luna was about to give up. Even a lone colt didn't accept her friendship. Why was everypony so... so... annoying? Every time she tried, she failed. Nopony would treat her like a regular filly. Just because she was a princess, didn't mean she didn't need friends. She had to find a way to befriend foals from Ponyville without them bowing. If only ponies could see her not as a princess, but as a regular filly for a change. Just then, it hit her. It was perfect, she devised a plan so amazing, there was no way it would fail. She decided to use her magic to disguise herself so that anypony who saw her would not recognize her. She just had to sneak outside the castle tomorrow to put her plan into action. But for now, she just tried to enjoy the rest of her cute-ceañera.
