Dancing With The Night's Winds
All my life I've felt like an outcast, an unnecessary shadow, forever damned to be in the shadows. My silent screams resonate in my mind, and I go under again. The water helps me arrange my thoughts. My whole life has been overshadowed by my elder sister, Celestia. Nopony ever noticed me, or they feared me. I would hear my name in the wind, like a whisper. Taunting me, it sneaks between the folds of my mind. The water helps.
I first found my ability to create "mind water" when I was still becoming Nightmare Moon. But before all of that, I had a love. A true, magnificent love. My horn lights up, and a letter materializes.
My love, do you think of me? I wait for you, weep for you. Do you not love me anymore? If not, then I shall take my leave. Goodbye, my darling.
And like that, he was gone. My only love, nevermore. I searched and searched, but it was folly. He had died by the time I was able to locate him. My love for him was strong, so I made him a star. He now shines, and twinkles in the sky. Every night, I sing a melancholy tune to him, so he knows I still care. After I finish, I light the sky with his star, setting off a chain reaction. After it is done, a constellation has formed, permeating my very soul, and the night, with it's existence. My tears merge with the water, as my magic collapses the letter again. Many times I feel useless, and wanted to end it all. All it would take would be a gulp, under the surface. But my thoughts of such things are suppressed by Tia. She always tries to console me, tell me I'm wanted. But she will always have more love than me. Always be more appreciated.
My thoughts drift back to my lost love, and of my new one. They both mean the world to me, and I know he would desire me to continue my life. My cold, lonely, eternal life. My new love is one Celestia would surely brush off as absurd, and would demand I not be so foolish. Twilight Sparkle, how I long for you. You remind me of his past self, before the hatred corrupted his mind. Sombra couldn't control it, but he still sacrificed himself to save me. But he still failed, for the Nightmare still planted itself in my head. Taunting me, using me, engulfing me, with no end in sight.
When the nightmare took over, I was powerless against it. But it let me see into his mind, and I finally understood why he did the things he did. He wasn't in control, but my sister didn't realize this. She only saw her subjects endangered, and acted swiftly, with no previous thought to his feelings or mine. I tried and searched long, but never got results, 'til it was too late. Now, I muster my strength. I know it will absorb my strength, but I can bear it no longer.
As I submerge myself again, I think about Twilight. She's the only one who's made the effort to understand. Her friends progressed in time, but they were first hesitant. The society I knew is gone. I can't bear the differences. Once fully engulfed by the liquid, I reach deep, into my thoughts. I select one of Sombra, before the Nightmare took over his soul. I hold the memory, feeling it caress my face in comfort. I search the thought, before finding him. I pull, and slowly his consciousness comes out. I feel my strength fade from my body, but I care little. He looks around, drowsily, before fully opening his eyes.
"Lulu, is that you?"
The nickname brings tears to my eyes. That name was only ever used by him and Tia. It brings such fond memories. "Yes, Sombra, it's me. I've missed you terribly, and I wanted to ask a question?"
Sombra's eyes had a glint of confusion, but he seemed to shrug it off. "What is it, love?"
Hearing him call me that, I almost couldn't bring myself to pursue the question. His gaze wandered around, and I felt his heartbeat quicken. I took a deep, lingering breath. "Sombra, you know I'll always love you, right? I was wondering, if you could... let me move on, I simply cannot bear life without living love. It's a shell, a hole."
"I know, Lulu. Pursue whatever makes you content. I will always love you, and you'll never be at peace with my soul bearing down on you. I know it's hard, but please, for your sake, let me go."
Tears clouded my eyes, and I choked. "Alright, I'll try. Goodbye, my love." And I let the memory fade, as all must. His warm smile enveloped me in joyous sorrow, for I loved his smile, but that would be the last time I ever saw it. As I regained consciousness, the water drained. I decided to go for a stroll around the exterior, and to get some air. The night's winds held me, caressing me in their cool, welcoming touch. He was right, I had to let go. For his sake, and for my own. It was too heavy of a burden. As I looked up in the sky, I saw his star, fading ever so slightly. His picture flooded my memory, one last time. I could see his face, his enigmatic laugh. His eyes, deep purple before the Nightmare. And most of all, his way of seeing the beauty in the darkness. He always loved my night, and would sing me songs to comfort me when I was otherwise unaccompanied.
As I walked, my thoughts then drifted to Twilight. How she could see the truth behind a pony's eyes. Her intelligence, her eyes, her smile. All were desirable, and made her the most beautiful mare I had ever met. She had made all the efforts in Equestria to understand and help me, and she had succeeded in several instances. She continued to invade my thoughts, as I swirled around, forgetting the world, dancing with the nightly winds embracing me.
Author's Note
I had this idea since yesterday, when I did my RariTwi fic, because I'm a bigger fan of TwiLuna than RariTwi, and Luna seemed like Sombra would have been her lover at some point, before all the Nightmare Moon stuff came around.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed. And here are the song references. As you may have guessed, I'm a Silent Hill fan. THE GOOD ONES, 1-3 and Shattered Memories. The other ones don't count. <3
