when Equestria starts going dark and crazy Princess Twilight goes to Canterlot where Princess Celestia and Princess Luna show her a strange portal that connects Equestria to an ancient land of over a hundred kingdoms. Cadence then tells them of a strange happening at the Crystal Empire and Celestia and Luna are forced to tell the truth of the crystal heart and the elements of balance.
