The Loss of a Friend (Luna)
My sister cried, yelled, and talked to me until midnight. I know, I should have been protecting the ponies of Equestria from nightmares, but my sister needed me more. It was then when I learned of Discord's death. I told Tia that it came as a surprise, as she could expect. What I didn't tell her is that I felt a strange emptiness inside. After hours of me listening to Celestia, I excused myself, under the pretense that she must sleep.
The stars were shining without a single cloud to block them. I walked through the castle halls, and found myself in front of balcony where I had once protected Canterlot from Changelings. Walking out, I looked upon my beautiful night sky. I felt a tingling sensation, and a blinding ray of silver magic shot from my horn. I looked at the sky, and saw a new twinkling star. I suppose that Discord really is dead, I thought. As I can only make new stars when I hear of a dead citizen. I remember every single name of the dead ponies that I have made a star for; however, one stands out in particular: Wishing Star. That poor, poor girl, I thought, remembering the blue mare with the yellow mane. She had such great potential; I was going to make her my apprentice, and a future alicorn. She was the first star that I made. When ponies heard of that, they started wishing on stars...some think that she grants them to the ponies that need it most.
I flew out into the crisp night air. Ponies are strange creatures, I thought. They hold onto the littlest grain of hope, even when the hope cannot be seen. I flew past my sisters window, and saw that she was sleeping soundly on her bed, and there wasn't a nightmare to be seen. Even my sister, who isn't completely a pony anymore has the ability to think that she can keep her problems to herself...and look how that ended. I no longer feel this way of thinking as my own way, but I did, once...
I was a little filly, only five years old, when a strange creature came up to me. He said that his name was Discord the Draconequus, and then he made it rain chocolate milk all over me. I got very upset and chased him all over the castle gardens, but he just kept teleporting just out of reach. He called out, "You will never catch me 'cause I'm a god!"
I got so upset that I jumped onto him and held onto his horns. He tried to teleport away, but I held on so tight that he had just brought me with him. He just scowled, and then asked if I wanted to be friends with him. I immediately agreed.
I laughed at the memory of young Discord. His voice had been very high pitched, and his tail was as long as his body. My laughter echoed across the Castle. Wow, I suppose that I still am a sentimental...strange. Another memory came to me, on when I was about ten years old.
I was sitting in the Gardens, fuming with anger. My sister had sent me out of my room because she needed room to practice her advanced spells. With that, I had stomped out and come here, the only place that I could think of. A loud pop came from behind me, followed by me floating, non-intentionally. "Hi," I had said, not turning around. Some wind came, turning me around, only to find his crazy eyes there with no body. I screamed, and laughter came from underneath the eyes. A second later, the rest of Discord's body appeared.
"Why you so down?" he asked.
"Because, my sister is stupid!" I replied, thinking that that was answer enough.
Discord wasn't pleased with this answer. "Just because your sister is stupid doesn't mean that you have to be down!" he said making the flowers around him laugh.
I sighed. "My sister kicked me out of my room, my own room, so that she could practice magic! Why couldn't she have used her own room!?"
"Eh, only because Sun-Butt is stupid," Discord replied. A mischievous grin appeared on his face. "Hey, I know! Why don't we play a prank on your sister!?" I nodded earnestly. "Okay, so here's the plan. We take some fruit and smear it all over her window, then make loud squawking noises, so that it seems like a bunch of birds pooped all over her window!"
We carried out the plan, and it caused some very large laughs. I started calling Tia Sun-Butt behind her back, and somepony must have heard me one day, because soon the entire kingdom was calling her that behind her back.
I keep thinking back, keep thinking of the little things that Discord did, each time helping me, each time strengthening our friendship. The day before my sister and I turned Discord to stone, I remember begging to him.
"Please, Discord! You must let go of your tyranny!" I begged him.
"Why should I do that?" he asked, an eyebrow raised.
I paused, not sure if I should give away our plan. "We-my sister and I have the Elements of Harmony, and you know..." I trailed off, not wanting to say any more.
Discord laughed, and he sounded insane. "Hehe! The Elements of Harmony, huh? Oh, scary!" he faked fainting. When he saw that he didn't even get a laugh out of me, he shook his head. "Luna, what happened to you? You used to laugh at everything!"
"I'm worried about you!" I screamed, feeling my rage leave me. "If you don't give up your position, then the Elements will do something to you, and I will lose my only friend!" I tried to stop the truth from coming out, but it did anyway. I remember how Wishing Star had been murdered violently as she slept. "Discord, if something happened to you, then I would be alone." I ran, attempting to hide for a while, then go back. Unfortunately, it was not so. My sister found me, and was enraged by the state I was in. She shut me into my room, and didn't let me out until the next day when we were on our way to his place. Turning Discord to stone was the hardest thing that I ever did.
I found myself crying, the tears falling on the cobblestones below. I am not alone. I have friends now! I forced myself to think, yet the tricky part of my brain thought, but now you have one less friend. I saw my sister walk out onto the balcony, how she does every morning when she goes to raise the sun. I lowered the moon, and I saw the stars fade, all except for Discord's. Wow, even in death he is different.
My sister saw me and waved. I felt emotion build up inside of me, and soon I flew up to my sister and cried into her shoulder.

What Could Have Been (Twilight)
I invited Fluttershy over because I thought that she could do something. She's good with animals, right? Well, Discord also asked for her, but, eh. She will obviously be able to help a dying draconequus, right? I was sadly misinformed.
Fluttershy came over to my Palace, accepting the invitation. She came in, and I decided not to waste any time, so I brought her straight to the room where Discord lay. I didn't tell her one crucial detail -- that Discord lay dying in the room. I made her promise not to run. She went in, and her body was rigid. Fluttershy asked what was wrong, and trying not to upset her anymore, I said, in a detached voice, that a creature had attacked him. I must have offended her, because she started yelling at me. Worst of all, she used The Stare on me. I won't go into detail about it, it's too horrifying. If she hadn't released me, I would still be there, under her spell.
Once I was released, I ran into my room and wrote a letter to Princess Celestia, saying that Discord had died. I kept it, feeling as if something was missing, though I didn't know what. I leaned back in my chair, feeling exhausted.
I stayed there for a long time, deep in thought, until Fluttershy finally came in and told me that Discord was dead. She was wearing her Gala dress, but it seemed more, mature, in a way. It had a white piece of cloth on the back.
"There is something else that you must know," Fluttershy said to me, her head held high.
"What is it?" I asked, thinking that it might be an apology.
"I am pregnant."
I felt stunned. I stood there with my eyes crossed, trying to figure something out.
"Who is the father?"
"Discord."
"Oh...congratulations!"
"Thank-you," Fluttershy whispered, her voice covered in depression. "T-Twilight? What can I do?" Fluttershy, who had been holding it together surprisingly well, finally broke down in tears.
"I don't know, Fluttershy," I responded, truly lost for words. "I really don't know."
"Oh, Twillight!" she sobbed, rushing into me, crying on my shoulder. "I-I promised him that I would stay here, that I would raise our child! But how? I can't see a future without him! How can I raise a being that will be the god or goddess of Chaos without him? I just don't know what to do!"
Fluttershy took a deep breath and looked around the room. "I'm afraid that the pain and misery will be too much for me to handle," she admitted finally, not looking at me.
I sat there shocked. Although she was easily scared, Fluttershy was one of the strongest ponies that I knew. If she was feeling overwhelmed, that was a problem.
"Well...um..."
"Don't worry Twilight I didn't expect you to answer...you never had this happen to you!" Fluttershy's eyes filled with tears and she fled the room.
"Wait! Fluttershy!" I raced after her. Half and hour later I gave up the search. I walked to my study and plopped down on the chair, exhausted.
I looked at the letter that sat on my desk and realized why I had felt that it was not yet finished. Well...I had better add about Fluttershy...but I can't tell Celestia the truth! But I can't lie completely either...I had better tell about how she was when she first came in! Yes! There we go!
I sent the letter to a messenger and asked him to send it Princess Celestia. The words still rang in my head.
Dear Princess Celestia, If you are holding anything important right now, I would suggest you put it down, else you drop it. Well, Princess, I would like to sadly inform you that Discord has died. I swear on my friend's lives hat this isn't a joke. He was attacked by a strange creature in the Everfree, and he just kept getting worse. Fluttershy was with him when it happened, she's pretty shaken up, but otherwise okay. Celestia, if you need anything, please let me know. I am here for you. Sincerely,
Princess Twilight Sparkle
I know that I have played a few pranks on her, so I had to put that it wasn't a joke. Why I put that I can help her is a mystery. I can't even help my friend, much less my mentor.
After giving the partially nonfactual letter to the messenger, I went to my room and laid down. My body was ready for sleep, but alas, my mind was still whirling like a tornado.
What is wrong with Flutteryshy? She has never been this troubled before...did she really love him that much? Well...obviously she loved him enough to have a child...but enough to think of suicide?
I was tossing and turning, not able to stay still.
What about me? She seems furious with me for no reason. Doesn't she know that I'm grieving too?
I gave up on sleep. Untangling myself from my covers, I walked to the room where Discord lay.
I used my magic to open the door, and noticed for the first time the swirling motion of my magenta colored aura. Celestia once told me that the aura of a unicorn makes him or her special. That had brought up a lot of questions, the main one being, "What if two unicorns have the same color aura?"
Celestia had to think about this, but ended up answering, "That will never happen. Even if they appear the same color, there is still a difference in the tone, shade, etc."
I finally opened the door, and saw nothing. Well...nothing except the bed, and the lamp, and the table. No body was anywhere to be found. Surprisingly, that brought tears to my eyes which had been dry prior to this.
It's just the dust! I thought, trying to cover something up. It's not because I didn't get to say goodbye, or anything.
Yes, it is. I couldn't lie to myself any longer. I didn't get to say goodbye to the one I love.
Once thought, the idea kept growing.
I used to fantasize about us going on a date, and then coming back for a cup of coffee, or, in Discord's case, a cup of chocolate milk. Then, when he had to leave, he would kiss my cheek.
The tears flowing down my face didn't seem enough to compromise for the loss I felt in my heart.
I was going to ask him out, but then he asked Flutterhsy...things went down-hill from there.
I recalled all of the events that had led up to this moment, and most weren't all that great.
I even already named our child Pandora.
I finally broke down sobbing. The weight of the memories and the death of my secret love was too much. I broke the window and grabbed a piece of glass. I looked at it, and saw the shimmering lights that flickered in the lamp. I saw the door, and knew that Spike was somewhere out there, sleeping.
I brought the glass closer.
I remembered my friends, especially Fluttershy. I remembered Princess Celestia, Cadence, and Luna.
I dropped the glass, and it shattered. I used my magenta aura to fix the window. I went to the bed and laid down, hoping to meet Luna in my dreams.

The Loss of an Enemy (Celestia)
The ponies just keep coming and coming. They come to me for advice, or to solve problems. The problems they bring are just so, materialistic and domestic. They don't seem to understand that life will not end if they lose a chicken, or if their wife had a miscarriage. There isn't much that I can do, I mean, the task has already been done. I sit there, on my high throne, separated from everypony else, day, after day, after day. Somehow I manage not to go insane. Somehow, I sit here and help ponies with problems that aren't even really problems.
Right now, I am walking the Palace halls, wondering about this anomaly that I have survived over a thousand years of listening; just plain listening. I have never got a chance to speak up, I only get to listen. Listen, listen, listen. A voice sounded from behind me, frightening me out of my thoughts. "Princess!" A purple guard ran over to me. He wore the badge of a messenger, so I figured that I should wait. Plus, I had already turned around, a signal that I had heard him. Oh, careless me. I must be better, or else I will never have down time. Seriously, though. Ponies somehow manage to find me wherever I go. I feel very watched. The guard caught up to me. "Princess," he said, a little breathlessly. "I have a message for you, the sender said it was urgent."
I sighed, thinking that it was just another complaint about how uninterested I acted today during court. "Thank-you, dismissed." The young stallion galloped away. I continued to walk the Palace halls, but this time, I walked with purpose. After a couple of minutes, I got to my "Royal Chambers", a.k.a. my room. Everypony always tried to make everything sound more grand, more royal. The truth was that my room was just like any other bedroom in Equestria. It had my bed, a closet, and was connected to the bathroom. Okay, maybe that's different, but you know, who cares? The point is, I'm not that special. I plopped onto my bed, and opened the letter. Inside, I could see my fellow Princess Twilight Sparkle's scrawling handwriting.
Dear Princess Celestia,
It's so funny how she still titles her letters that, even though now we are equals.
If you are holding anything important right now, I would suggest that you put it down, else you drop it.
I checked, nothing but my Princess gear.
Well, Princess, I would like to sadly inform you that Discord has died.
Oh, okay! Discord died-wait, what! I had to read the sentence over again. No way could Discord, who is a GOD for, well you knows sake, DIE?! I shook my head incredulously. Oh, this must be a joke! An elaborate one, but a joke all the same. I thought this until I saw the next line.
I swear on my friend's lives that this isn't a joke.
Oh dear, oh dear, what is happening?
Please, Princess believe me.

I had the strange sensation of being in a whirlpool. I felt tugged to one side, always in motion, until I found the bottom. Sadly, my thoughts were still swirling. Discord, what? Dead, no way! I sat down, strangely out of breathe. Why do I feel like this? I HATED Discord...why? I realized that I had started pacing, so I plopped onto my
I remember Cadence giving me, Luna, and Twilight lessons on how to calm down. Step one, breath. I tried to control my breathing, to make it slow and steady, but I couldn't. Okay, step two, close your eyes. I closed my eyes, tried breathing slowly, yet the image of the letter that Twilight sent me appeared. I started panicking. Okay, step three, which is, what is it? Oh, right. Stay positive. Well, it isn't the end of the world that Discord is dead, we just won't have a God... I screamed, muffling it by a spell. The spell felt good, giving me power. I continued to destroy things in my room bu a mere touch with the golden magic from my horn. After five minutes of me abusing my power for rage, I felt slightly better. I now knew that I had the capacity to think properly.
Okay, so Discord is dead. You know what? I think that this feeling that I have is fear that I won't have anypony to take my rage out upon. "Oh, dear, what am I to do?" I asked myself quietly. What am I to do? I felt myself fall, fall onto my bed, and fall asleep.
The room was dark. I couldn't see anything. Then, I heard voices.
"Princess Celestia, this person just stole an apple tree from my yard."
"Princess Celestia, my wife is breaking up with me, but I don't have any rights against her.
"Princess!"
"Help!"
"My"
The only sound was the people asking me for help. Finally, I couldn't stand it anymore. "STOP IT! SHUT UP! I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR PETTY ISSUES! GO AWAY! LEAVE ME ALONE!"
The voices stopped. Only one remained. "Sister, are you okay?" I turned around, and saw my sister Lulu standing there; however, she wasn't the little sister that I see day to day. She was my height, and her hair was majestically flowing behind her.
I was about to tell her that I was, but everything came out. "No, sis', I'm not. I can't stand how I must listen to everypony day, after day, after day! I never get to talk! I only have to listen! Listen is all I get to do! I want something else to do! I want to be listened to!" I was crying now, my tears unstoppable.
Luna nodded. "Yes, I have sensed this. Why have you not come to me? I have been here the entire time. Why did you not come and ask for help?" Her voice was hurt.
"Do you want to know the truth?" Luna nodded to me. "Well, I was afraid. I didn't want to burden you. Oh, dear, Luna! What is wrong with me?" I cried into her shoulder, cried like I was the little sister, cried like there was no tomorrow.
"Sister, you must wake up. Wake up and we can talk." My sister gently pushed me away. I looked at her, and nodded. I felt myself go into the blackness, and...
I woke up, and for once in my life, felt completely supported.
