Within the realm known as Equestria, a land filled with pony-kind and various other mystical beings, there is a race known as changelings. The Changelings were insect-like in their appearance and were ruled by Queen Chrysalis. She has tried many times in hopes of gaining great power and complete rule over Equestria. Thankfully have all failed, but Queen Chrysalis is not one to give up on her goals.
Within a volcanic area of Equestria, once used by dragons long ago, a group of changelings and their mighty queen them could be seen. They have traveled for days with little rest. The queen had a secret: she had a friend who was not a changeling back when she was a princess of the hive. She wanted to see her friend again…Queen Chrysalis had found an ancient scroll depicting a powerful source of magic within this area.
The group of changelings finally made it into the lava fields at the base of a massive volcano. Old ruins of an ancient city stood in the midst of flowing lava. Once there, the queen ordered her changeling minions to search the area for the first clue to the magic’s location. The various changelings looked under rocks, behind stone columns, and in what remained of the ruins storerooms.
After a time of searching the changelings found a magical tablet in a room of the ruin. Queen Chrysalis lifted the tablet in front of her with her magic, when all of the sudden the tablet shot out a beam of magic at the volcano causing it to erupted. From the volcano came something odd, an onyx colored rock was rolling to the ruins as the changelings moved to protect the queen. The rock exploded and from it a pony came running out of it. This pony an unicorn ran from the volcano a great speed until it finally stopped at a few feet from the Queen, its coat was onyx colored, its eyes had yellow flames coming out, its main and tail were violet flames billowing in the breeze, and it wore strange dark armor with skulls decorating it.
Queen Chrysalis got a good look at this dark pony to realize who it was. He was a bit taller than Queen Chrysalis. This dark unicorn walked up to the changelings who stood their ground, until the Queen allowed the dark pony to meet.
“Excuse me lovely miss…are you the one who summoned me? I hope so…”
“What?! Don’t you remember me?” Queen Chrysalis had a mixture of surprise and confusion as the dark pony looked upon her.
“Sorry about that, my memory must have been affected by that summoning you did to me…”
“Don’t worry about it, lets just get you home.” With that the changelings escorted the dark pony back to there territory in the badlands.
Back in a time long ago in a realm beyond Equestria…
The day was rather cloudy and winds were very chilly, but living in the mountains, that was rather normal. A dark unicorn lived in a little burned down remands of a wooden cabin near an abandoned human town. His cabin was built just next to the mountain side with a slight slope a few meters in front of it. He guesses he should be grateful that he never got caught in a landslide. The house was burned but then he was, Volkun, the Never-ending Flame. He was a legendary beast born of flames and darkness making the burned cabin perfect for him.
So, Volkun was in his cabin, sleeping away the day like usual, when he heard the roaring of mountain wolves and the screams of a young filly. At first, he thought it was just the sounds of an animal with a similar pitch, so he remained in the cabin, but then he heard it again. His heart pounded and he began to sweat a cold drop from his forehead. He couldn't take it and he burst through his cabin door and galloped left along the dry dirt trail.
Once he reached the end, a few minutes later, he jumped off the ledge and galloped through the tree lines. Volkun nearly tripped over a few rocks to smash, face first, into trees, but his hooves were holding him well that day. After awhile, he couldn't hear anything anymore. He was huffing and panting, trying to see where the source might have been from, but those clouds would never let more that a slight beam of light pierce through the canopy above. He thought that the source had been killed, but he heard the yell again. The difference, this time, was that it came from one of the mountain wolves. He ran in the opposite direction to see this weird, black thing with its dangly horn glowing a bright lime green. Three other wolves were about to pounce on her when he yelled at them. They turned around to see Volkun charging in and blasting fire from his horn at them. The mountain wolves turned tail and fled at the sight of the mystical fire beast.
Volkun made sure they were gone, but he turned to look at this tiny black thing hunched against a fallen tree log. She was trying to push herself away when she saw me. You see, Volkun had a rather impressive build and also a demonic look to his being. He supposes she was scared of him as well. As to what she was doing there that day, he did not know. He reached out to grab her, but she began to swat at his foreleg. It was funny to see such a tiny creature trying to hurt him. She was bleeding all over her body, and she seemed drained. He supposes the magic she had used before left her tuckered out. She had turned her head away and clenched her fangs as she batted at his legs, but that's just how it is. Volkun grabbed her and dragged her screaming body to my cabin. She was a loud one, like a young colt being taken away from a toy he really wanted. She was kicking and screaming like crazy.
Volkun pushed the door to his house open. My cabin had simple carpets of shed lion fur threaded together, with black couches made from synthetic leather and filled with cotton. All of it burned but that was the life of a fire elemental. She immediately galloped behind his burnt couch and hid there. She very much reminded him of a cat, what with her unhealthy obsession of poking her little head from around the corner of it and staring at him with them big 'ol eyes.
"Come here, I need to help clean your wounds." Volkun told her.
So he waited for her to avert her gaze, and he sneaked his way around the couch, and scared the tiny creature, causing her to run in the opposite direction. He ran after her and picked her up with his hooves.
"You are too tiny and weak right now to be running around the forest.” Volkun knew this would be a long day.
After finally tending to her wounds and feeding her some forest berries she sat in front of a fire he started to harm her up. So Volkun decided to ask her some questions.
"Who and what are you and what were you doing in the forest?"
She didn't answer.
“You know I’m not trying to hurt you right?”
“Y..yes. my name is Chrysalis…”
“So what are you? I’ve never seen a creature like you before.”
"You...You know I'm a changeling right?" the tiny changeling asked with a high-pitched voice.
“I have no idea what a changeling is and I’ve lived on Lore for a long time.”
“Lore? What is that?” this made Volkun think for a second until…
“You’re not from another realm are you; do you remember how you ended up in that forest?”
“I was drinking from a water pool in a forest near my hive when I fell in, then I found myself in that forest.”
“I hate magic sometimes.” Volkun rolled his eyes.
“I want to go home…”
“Well I guess until I can figure a way to get your home, I’ll take care of you till then.”
After some more forest berries Volkun was about to go to sleep when he felt something next to him, which he look to see The filly laying there, sleeping and curled up beside him, this made Volkun feel something in his ancient heart…peace, a warm peace he hadn’t felt in ages. Volkun like this feeling as he slowly went to sleep on the floor of the burned cabin.
It had been a few months of searching from the ground to the sky before Volkun found the magical pool that Chrysalis within a glad near the forest. During that time Chrysalis had developed a little crush on Volkun, she felt he was her only friend in the entire world. Volkun in his mysterious ways taught Chrysalis to never give up on achieving your goal be it good or evil. Eventually Chrysalis left throw the pool and back to her world.
Back into Present Equestria…
After a long trek the group of changelings and there queen made it back to the badlands, the queen dismiss her group and took Volkun into her throne room. During the time walking to the badlands Volkun started to remember his little filly friend that he took care of.
“Chrysalis? Is that you?” Volkun now remembered her.
“Yes my old friend, I’m glad you remember at last.” She hugged him and Volkun hugged back.
. . . .
Volkun was running as fast as he could possibly run in a strange snowy field, his elemental fire did not seem to help fight back this odd cold feeling in his hooves. Something was chasing him like a lion after its prey, He could no evaded it or stop and fight it, he just had to run. The sound of metal boots crushing twigs like bones breaking filled their air. The sound grew closer and closer as Volkun began to slow down.
“Where are you Volkun!? Your masters demands your attention!!” yelled shadowy figures that rose into the air behind Volkun a looming shadow of horror rising like giants over a mountain. A darkened hand of the giants grabbed Volkun easily, then devoured him slowly and painfully.
Volkun awoke in a panic, covered in sweat. The dreams always horrified him and it seems even in another realm he could not shack the past. Volkun got up off a bed in the guest quarters, Queen Chrysalis gave him the room after there reunion. The room was quite, well decorated, and comfortable compared to Volkun’s past homes, which considered of old rundown buildings in the middle of nowhere.
The fire elemental soon left his room in search of a midnight snack to calm his frazzled nerves. One the way to the fortress kitchen area he saw various changelings performing even more various tasks from cleaning the floors and walls to other taking stock of items they have or need, and patrolling the fortress. Volkun found it all impressive to see the Queen run a tight ship of her people.
Volkun finally arrives to the kitchen area and take some magic from his horn to make an old fashion brimstone meal. He found brimstone that he summoned quite tasty compared to other stones he could eat. Once done he took his meal to a table and eat it slowly as he thinks about his dream.
He was, Volkun, the Never-ending Flame, a legendary beast born of fire and darkness. However he was once slave to a group of vile humans who used dark magic to enslave his kind and others under their heels. Volkun remembered the time of his enslavement like it was a bad dream that he thought he escaped from, but to forever haunt his mind.
Out of a corridor Queen Chrysalis strolls up upon Volkun, noticing his worrying aura from her room and his depressed posture on the table. Chrysalis puts her hoof over Volkun and comforts him as he eats his meal, once done she asks Volkun what was wrong. He explains that before they met long ago he was once a slave and his past of his torment, and one day the humans vanished letting him free to roam the world. Chrysalis embarrasses Volkun and tells him to not worry. Volkun soon returned to his room as the Queen returned to hers.
. . . .
It had been a few months later that Volkun was in the changeling’s territory, his time spent running for excises and reading books about this new realm he was now a part of. All the time Queen Chrysalis was watching him, his strong musicales, his flowing flaming mane, he was dark but amazing. So one day Queen Chrysalis had Volkun join him for dinner one night.
“How are you liking your meal Volkun?”
“This is great, my compliments to the chief and to the his lovely boss.” That made Chrysalis blush a bit.
“Thank you old friend, by the way I had a question.”
“Yes…”
“Do you ever think you will find a creature worth sharing your live with?”
“I think I already have.” Volkun got up from his spot on the table a moved closer to Queen Chrysalis, her heart was raising and her face was red like a rose.
Volkun spent the night romancing the Queen which she rather enjoyed. There romantic time together was magical and even more some when Volkun proposed to her, she instantly said yes.
The following Wedding was a lavish afire as Volkun and Chrysalis wed under the stars, the two danced and kissed for what seemed like an eternity.
