What a Doctor can "Do"

It had been 1 year and 6 months now since I met Twilight Sparkle. We were the new couple seen around Ponyville and people often asked me how I got her. In which case I tell them: “Some things are just meant to be”.

I woke up after another romantic date-night, which involved a very expensive salad and 2 bottles of champagne, I decided to take a chance. I was going to use that ring that the Princess’ gave me, tonight. There was just one small thing, I had to meet her parents.

I found out where they lived by finding the last letter her parents sent to her.

Canterlot, figures...

I gave Twilight a kiss and left her to do her work. I told her I had to go to Canterlot for something I needed in my office.I put on my suit that had sat in the closet for a year now and took to the skies. I found the spring air refreshing and cool in my mane and feathers. I landed on Canterlot and made my way to the Sparkle household.

I knocked on the door and was met by a dark blue stallion.

“Hello, you must be Night Light,” I said, “My name is Doctor Stanley Do.”

“Oh yes, Twilight mentioned you in her last letter, you’ve been together for almost 2 years now right? Come on in, we’d love to meet you” Night Light said to me.

I entered the home and Night Light ushered me to a seat in their den.

“Velvet? Doctor Do is here?” Night Light said into the kitchen.

“Who?” a female voice responded

“You know...Twilight’s boyfriend?” He said

“Oh of course! Just a minute, let me make you some drinks!” Twilight Velvet replied.

“I won’t object to that.” I said

Twilight Velvet returned a few minutes later with 3 glasses in her aura and set them down on the coffee table. She then sat down beside her husband on the sofa and looked at me.

“So. Stan. We know a lot about you already, but why don’t you tell us a little bit more about yourself?” Night Light asked me

“Well, I supposed I could start off with my 4 years abroad?” I ask picking up the drink with my wing.

“Oh Celestia! I’m guessing that you learned that abroad?” Twilight Velvet said pointing to my now drink-laden wing.

“Yes m’am. I learned these tricks from the flightless pegasi colonies. I can maneuver them very well. They double as a horn for me.” I said flexing my other wing and taking a sip of my drink. It was an iced tea with a hint of lavender.

“Wow, where else have you been?” Night Light asked.

“Well, I did spend a year in the northern regions. That was so cold but I did learn a lot about carnivorous seals. They had been attacking locals because they kept dumping their fish scraps in the water!” I said

“Wow, how interesting. I’m sure you shared all of this with Twilight!” Velvet said

“Yes I did, and that brings me to why I’m here.” I said

“And why’s that?” Night Light asked.

“I would like your permission in marrying your daughter.” I said, finally getting the burden off my chest.

This took Night Light and Twilight Velvet a full minute to comprehend.

“I have the ring and I have our best interests. I love her and I would die for her if it meant she would live.” I say, nearly choking up at the end.

“Do you mind if we talk about this in private?” Night Light asked.

“Do whatever you need to, I can wait all night if that’s what you need.” I respond in a very professional tone.

They both nodded and left the room. I sat back, my heart doing backflips and front flips all over the place as does my mind.

What if they say no?

What if they condemn me and force me never to see her again?

What if...

I began breathing very deeply, another technique I had learned abroad, and emptied my mind of those thoughts.

It was 2 hour later that they returned.

“Stanley,” Night Light said

“Yes Night Light?” I responded, standing up.

“You have our blessing to marry our daughter. We would love to have you as a son-in-law!” Night Lights said, a single tear running down his face, while dozens fell down mine. I ran over to them and hugged them. I could hear both of them sobbing softly. I pulled back and spoke.

“Night Light and Twilight Velvet, I want you to know that I will never let your daughter down. I will never leave her, and that I will always be there when she needs me.” I say, sow sobbing.

“We think you are perfect for Twilight. We are just sad that-” Twilight Velvet said weeping

“that your little filly is all grown up?” I finished the sentence for her.

“Yes...” She said

“Now you go get her Stan, she’s your girl now” Night Light said.

With that, I flew off into the late afternoon sky, heading for the castle.

I arrived around dusk. Opening the library door to find Twilight hard at work.

“I’m back!” I say

Twilight looks up at me and smiles.

“I see that you didn’t bring back anything from work” She giggled

“Well they didn’t have what I needed so I browsed several other stores and couldn’t find shit!” I said.

“Alright then.” She said looking back down at her papers.

I walked up behind her, and put my soft wings on her shoulders.

“So, I was thinking I could make us some dinner here, have some wine, you know, just the two of us” I said, massaging her shoulders slowly, working out the tension.

“I like that idea, why don’t you go get changed?” She said moaning slightly as I massaged her shoulders still.

“Sure,” I said, moving my wings away from her shoulders and heading towards the stairs. I took off my suit and put on my usual white lab coat. Then, I found the ring in it’s hiding spot under the dresser in an inconspicuous box, and put it in my pocket.

After getting downstairs, I got to work making a smoked salmon dish, while Spike made a salad. I finished and invited Twilight in.

“As usual Stan, this is delicious.” She said contemplating the meal she was eating.

“I think I’ve got it down to a science.” I say, taking a sip of wine.

Now or never!

I got up from my seat and walked over to Twilight.

“Twilight Sparkle. You were one of the first ponies I met after my return, you helped me get a starter job, you brought light into my dark world and opened up new doors. You then gave your love to me and my life has never been the same since. You have cared and loved me as I would you and I want it to stay that way forever.” I confess to her.

I get down on one hoof and pull out the box and open it.

“Twilight Sparkle, will you marry me?” I ask, looking her right in her gorgeous purple eyes that had seduced me many times and waited.

“Yes” she whispered.

I pull the ring out of its box and place it on her horn like a crown.

We embrace and kiss for a good 5 minutes.

“I love you Stanley Do, with all my heart and soul” she said looking into my own sky blue eyes, big tears now dripping from hers as well as mine.

“I will never let you go” I whisper to her.
