Seemed to have turned pink while he wasn't looking.
"All right, children, settle down," croaked their doddering teacher, Ms. Hackney. She brought the safety knife over and hoofed it to Button. "Make a wish when you cut the cake, Button."
He wished his teacher wasn't such a buttinsky and made the first slice. What was she even doing here anyway? It wasn't like he didn't have parents... well, parent of his own. Not that his mom was around right now, but she'd at least left his presents on the kitchen table this morning. He wondered if everypony in high school had teachers this clingy, or if it was just his luck.
"Now let's all play pin the tail on the pony!" Ms. Hackney gurgled, before Pinkie Pie hip-checked her out of the way.
"Hey, that was totally my line! Everypony party!"
Kiddie games were not Button's thing. He grabbed himself some cake and made tracks for where Sweetie was standing with her friends by the punchbowl. The first thing he noticed, again, was her coloring. Her cheeks were definitely redder than usual. Second of all, as he got the least bit closer, he realized she was laughing and audible over the general commotion of the party.
What in Tartarus?
"Hey, Sweetie..."
His salutation died off as she cantered away from the table at his approach, still laughing. He tried to follow her, but Scootaloo hooked a foreleg around his neck.
"Word of advice, chief," she murmured in his ear. "That one? Gonna blow. Your. Mind tonight."
"Who wha?"
"Try some punch!"
Apple Bloom thrust a cup in his face, and he backpedaled. He would have lost his cake slice if not for Scootaloo's preternatural reflexes.
"N-no thanks," he said, swallowing and eying the glass like it was a live cockatrice. "I don't drink much."
Apple Bloom frowned and looked at Scootaloo. "Aww, how'd he know it was spiked?"
Scootaloo shrugged.
"S-spiked?" His eyes darted left and right. The Princess's "number one assistant" had always kind of freaked him out, especially after he started getting bigger. Said dragon did not appear to be attending the party, but one could never be too careful.
"Yeah," Apple Bloom said, sagging. "I nicked some o' my family's private stock, 'cuz I wanted to get you both drunk for your big night."
Scootaloo chortled. "Sweetie's had enough for both of them, if you ask me." She elbowed Button, pushing him forward. "Go get 'er, tiger. Oh, and don't forget your cake."
The plate magically reappeared in his hooves, cake slice perfectly untouched. Whistling, Scootaloo walked away from the table, and Apple Bloom joined her, their tails entwining. Button Mash stood there with his mouth open for rather a long while. At last, he screwed up his courage, shoved the entire piece of cake in his mouth (it was good!) and stomped off after Sweetie Belle.
It didn't take him long to catch up with her, but no matter how fast he ran, she remained just at the edge of his sight. He'd dash forward, and she'd stumble away, giggling, to a new hiding spot. The chase went on across Ponyville, in and out of alleys, between buildings, and through bushes. The streetlamps flickered to life as the moon rose.
He realized far too late that she had been leading him along to somewhere in particular: Carousel Boutique. Eyes half-lidded, a tiny smile on her face, she beckoned to him from the door. Nervous though he was, he followed her, and this time, she let him catch up.
"W-where are we going?" he murmured.
"Shh!" she hissed. "My sister's out at the party, but you don't wanna wake up Opalescence. She's old and doesn't care who she hurts these days."
Oh, right. Button hated cats even more than he feared dragons. Dragons were big and scary, but cats ate living creatures, like mice... and fish... It figured he'd be dating a pony who spent a lot of time around one of the meanest ones to ever exist.
Sweetie was leading him upstairs, step by calculated, staggering step.
"Where are we going?" he whispered, as loudly as he could.
"You'll see!" she replied in the same manner.
They crept up the stairs, freezing as the sixth step gave out a loud creak. But when no other sounds came from the dark house, they continued up.
It wasn't like Button had never been to her room before, but something tugged at the back of his mind. What had Scootaloo said? Whatever was going on, he couldn't quite put the pieces together. He'd just have to wait and see.
Still, he couldn't help but feel a little cold pit of nervousness in his stomach as Sweetie opened the door to her room and tossed her head back. She gave him a look he could only describe as hungry.
"C'mon in," she slurred, prancing through the door.
He glanced at the walls and, finding nothing out of place, swallowed that little cold ball creeping up his throat. He could do this. It was just Sweetie Belle, no reason to be afraid. He'd conquered a horde of level forty Champion Firetouched Morgroths before. This was kid's stuff. Tipping his propeller beanie forward on his head, he marched in through the door.
Sweetie was nowhere to be seen, but at least she'd left a lamp on beside her bed.
"Where'd ya go?" he called out.
"I'll be out in a minuuute," came her voice from elsewhere in the room. "Just lay down on the bed and wait."
With a shrug, he moseyed over to the bed and hiked himself onto it, coming down with a hard pomf and sinking into the soft sheets.
"What're we gonna do on the bed?" he yelled, shifting around on his back.
His answer came in the form of Sweetie Belle slinking out of her closet. Wearing makeup. And socks. Striped socks that matched her mane.
"Happy birthday to you..." she cooed, her voice low and sultry.
Button's face turned bright red and his eyes went wide. "S-S-S-Sweetie Belle?" The second word of her name came out as a squeak.
She took two slow steps toward the bed, swinging her hips. "Happy birthday to you..."
He made more strangled noises. Things were moving around in places they shouldn't be. He whipped his hat off and placed it between his hind legs.
"Happy birthday, Mister Button Mash..." Sweetie stalked forward, shoulders shaking, and climbed onto the end of the bed, all the while regarding him with those half-lidded eyes. She reached out with her teeth and delicately removed his hat, carelessly tossing it aside.
"Hap-py birth-day--"
She moved forward just a little more, until her head hovered over his rear end.
"To--"
She leaned down and planted a kiss on him, right there.
"You," she finished in a whisper. He could feel her breath across the fine hairs coating his stomach. Things were definitely moving down there.
Her lower lip jutted out and she batted her eyelashes at him. "What's the matter? Got nothing to say?'
"Y-you look nice!" he squeaked.
She only raised an eyebrow at that before giving him another predatory smile. "Are you ready for your birthday present, Button?" She drew his name out with a moan.
He shrank back. "W-what is it?"
That same smile crept over her face. "Mmm, I think you know already..." She parted her lips languidly, letting him see the full length of her tongue before she leaned down and gave him a long, slow lick. The whole time, she kept her eyes on his.
Oh. Whoa. The word he had been looking for this whole time was "blowjob".
"W-w-wait!"
Sweetie tossed her head back with an exasperated sigh. "Oh, come on!" she cried, her normal squeakiness returning. The makeup in that moment mocked her looks instead of enhancing them.

"None," he answered quickly.
"Then we might as well be married." She licked her lips and leaned back down over him. "I've been wanting to do this a long time, Button. And you wouldn't say no to a gift from your fillyfriend, who worked on it so hard--" the word came out with a strange overemphasis-- "would you?"
Her lips parted once more with a tiny moan, and she licked along his quivering shaft, which stood to attention. He could only think of three things.

The pain intensified as his legs fused together. His hooves flattened and expanded into leathery flukes while a dorsal fin wrenched its way from his back. Brown scales grew in under the hairs and his gills opened.

Lungs no longer suited for a land environment, he gasped for air.
Weight shifted onto the bed and he turned to look over his shoulder. Sweetie knelt beside him, staring at him with unmatched intensity.

His eyes widened.

"I-it's okay," he said, keeping his neck below the water line. His voice was weak. "I'll be fine, I just need to regain my strength..."
She licked her lips, her eyes dropping to the side. "Is this why you don't like going out in the rain?"
He nodded. "Or swimming."
"Or taking baths."
He nodded again, then caught himself. "Hey!"
She giggled and wiped at her face, smearing the black lines even worse. "I'm just glad you're all right. I don't know what came over me. And then when I realized you'd blacked out, I..."
Turning onto his stomach, he reached out and touched her hoof, doing his best to smile at her. "It's okay. And now you've seen... this, so..." He tilted his head. "I guess we really are kind of married."
She leaned in and kissed him gently. "I love you, Button."
"I love you too, Sweetie." He sank back down into the water, frowning. "I'll be all right in a bit, I promise, just... let me get some rest, okay?"
She nodded and stood. "I'll leave the door open. Just yell if you need anything." Frowning, she added, "Rarity's going to have a fit when she comes in here and it smells like fish, but I'll worry about that later."
"Hey! I don't smell like fish!"
She giggled as she left the bathroom. "You kind of doo-oo!"
Pouting, he sank below the water level. Then he took a deep breath and hugged himself. That had been close. Thank goodness Sweetie had been around to save him.
Gosh, and she didn't even freak out about me. Maybe we should get married.
A warmth spread into his heart as he thought about her. He smiled, but the toll the ordeal had taken on him reasserted itself and it became a wince. It was going to take a long nap in the bath before he got his strength back, most likely.
He was just lying back on the fluffy little bath pillow Sweetie had so thoughtfully placed on the edge of the tub when the door squeaked.
"Sweetie? Is that you?"
There was no answer. He closed his eyes, willing to relax and not worry about whatever was going on behind him. Then he became aware of the sounds of something scuffing across the plush carpeting, and coughing. There was a low growl from somewhere near the door. A chill ran up his spine.
Heart racing, he peeked over the edge of the tub. Sweetie Belle's cat stood there, sniffing the air. She was old and rangy, nothing like the pampered fuzzball she had been when they were foals. Her permanent sneer had only become more pronounced with age, and she moved with the jerkiness of painful arthritis.
Despite this, his blood ran cold at the sight of her. He was too weak to cry out for help, too tired to move. All he could do was watch as she took one shaky step after another, spitting and stumbling. She licked her lips and that frown turned into the cruelest of smiles. She opened her mouth as Button tried to scream. He couldn't make a sound.
