Adventure's End, Advanture's Beginning.
Well shit.
I knew I had pretty craptacular luck, but I didn't think the cosmos would look down on me and say
"Y'KNOW WHAT JAY? FUCK YOU, YOU DON'T GET A CAREER ANYMORE."
I mean really cosmos, really? It's bad enough that have scars galore across my body, thanks to you throwing wave after wave of deadly monster at me, but then you have to go and destroy my very hard work and life? Seriously, I worked hard on all of that, maps, markings, language works, codes, fucking rumors. Yeah cosmos, I did my work based off of rumors. I found treasures and scrolls thanks to rumors. I KILLED AN ANCIENT CREATURE THAT'S HAUNTED EARTH, THANKS TO A TOWN RUMOR.
Did I forget to mention, cosmos, that I was rich? Yeah, I had the life of a fucking king. You know that millennia old coins and scriptures a worth a ton, right? Oh but guess what, not just that, but I was forced to sell them because of you! Those things were my blood and soul, my very life was dependent on them, and woosh, there they fucking go. Oh but thanks for the nice house I couldn't give two shits about. I love living in a home that makes me feel like I'm once again trapped in a cavern with two-trillion K I had to spend eight months in. Yeah, that was fun. I love repeating it.
But I guess I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let me explain.
My name is Jay Abram Aarons, and I am a sorcerer and treasure hunter. In fact, I'm the best of the best. I spent about ten years of my life, devoted to any kind of magic I could find. At the age of eleven, my mother was killed by a victor beast (wolf-like creature that takes the head of it's prey as a souvenir.) and I decided that I would leave my town. At the age of thirteen I reached my first treasure-hunt, a little family gold in a gargantuan necropolis. Pretty interesting story, I had heard the rumor in the town's tavern, (don't be surprised that they let children, small place, needed money wherever you could get it.) a few drunks started talking about the family treasures down below the city, where they buried their dead to avoid rot and sickness. Twelve-hundred K worth of coins, all belonging to the tailor family in the village.
Of course, I at first thought it was bullshit. This was the case until a young girl and her mother informed me that it truly was real, and that it used to belong to them. They told me that their father was the famed tailor, and had disappeared whilst going to the necropolis to search for it. They said they would split half of the chest with anyone who could find it and return it. I still thought they were bluffing, trying to take me for a fool. But the eyes on that girl, damn was it heartbreaking... and kind of cute. Anyways, I ended up accepting the challenge, despite the warnings of the drunkards, and made my way to the underground. I was in there for sixteen days, in the rotting maze and the wretched smell. I was chased by ghouls and zombie creatures for all sixteen days, barely getting any sleep. On day fourteen, I found the chest in a hole in the floor (I totally didn't cause it, promise... get that look off your face... I DIDN'T DO IT I SWEAR.) and decided to jump in an retrieve it.
The first thing to meet me there was another ghoul. I really didn't find it a threat, since I knew more than enough battle magic at that point to destroy it with one shot. I was about to obliterate the thing, before I noticed it was cowering away from me, and after some time and effort, I figured out it was the father that had gotten lost down here... don't ask me how, it was a tiring process. Anyways, I finally exited the horrific, light-barren place, and made my way to the tailor family. Imagine the look on their faces when I showed them the chest, and when I had to bring the news of the father... and when I told them I wouldn't take any money from them.
Almost seems stupid, really... but hey, I'm not greedy. That was the end of my first adventure, and the beginning of the hell that is my career. All the way up to age sixteen, almost seventeen, and I'm sitting in my newly constructed home, banging my hand on a table for what I did. I destroyed the maps that lead to lost artifacts and powers, eliminated every clue leading to my escapades, and sold every single treasure I had come to collect, just so I could settle down in one building for the remainder of my life. Oh boy, was I excited for the most boring life ever.
But it didn't take long for the strange to happen.
I sat at my work table one morning, re-creating some old drawings for spells and such. I had accidentally made the incorrect symbol combinations on my work piece...
Allow me to elaborate.
For a spell drawing/circle to work properly, there must be specific combinations of symbols or Tej, which will create a spell that is near impossible to pronounce. It was a system devised by a much older caster named Tejirek, who understood that in the years to come, the spells that were created at the time would be near impossible to pronounce. So, he created a language of symbols, that when combined, automatically pronounce almost any spoken spell for you. It's complicated, and difficult to get used to, but once you have it down, you'd wish you could worship Tejirek for his work.
The spell I was trying to recreate was known as the Kful-drevniga-opits. On paper, this looked like a alchemic circle with an arrow, a small map, and a pitchfork end with only two tips. In translation, this meant 'Move, Location, Earth.' (The arrow represents movement, a map represents area, and a two tipped pitchfork represents farming or the ground.) However, I had accidentally made three tips on the pitchfork, all leading inward. This was Kful-drevniga-lopis, a spell that translated into 'Move, Location, Aether' (or, other-worldly) Normally, the spell would've become dysfunctional, and just sort of burnt up. However, due to my own stupidity, I accidentally wrote Stial (Equine) where as I meant to write Stjal (Emerald [as in, the Emerald kingdom, which I resided in.]) All in all, this what I managed to write:
'Move to the location, the other-worldly realm of Equine...' or to explain, 'Move me to the un-earthly realm of the equine.'
Being the worlds number one stupid, I decided to test the spell without looking it over to make sure that it was correct... which is considered a taboo in some places. At first, I expected to be teleported at the castle gates, where the guards would give there usual greeting. But once I activated the spell, and heard the whispering, I closed my eyes. I felt a cold rush of wind across my face, inducing a strong pain in my scarred face, but I heard no greeting. Perplexed, I carefully opened my eyes, only to discover that I had been transported to a large clearing, smack-dab in the middle of a depressing looking forest.
And, being me, one though instantly clouded my mind.
