Living
Living
Load Full StoryI love my house. It is a beautiful house. Its red walls and tiled roof bring a shimmering light to anypony's eyes. The dirt that surrounds my house is soft and warm. Sure, it is not what you would consider the most attractive lawn, but at least the the stepping stones outside of the door help bring it a meaning. A meaning that there is somepony here who cares for there home.
All of my life I have stayed inside my home. Well, if you count Ponyville as my home as well. Although, I mostly tend to stay at my actual house then to wander off into the streets of the town. I don't mind taking a stroll or two, but being in the comfort of one's home and relaxing is my philosophy.
I don't mind guests here either. Some come and go, others stay a while, but there are a few that tend to stay here for even longer. They come in and come out during the day, and at night they sleep in the beds. I don't mind them being here. I just hope that they don't mind me living here! One day, while I was sitting silently in my rocking chair in the kitchen, I heard one of them coming in.
"Applebloom, do you know what happened to Big Mac's yoke? He can't go to work plowing the fields without it!" The pony cried.
"No, I don't, AJ," a voice replied as a small filly with a red bow appeared behind the door. "Did you ask Granny Smith yet?"
"I was, but she's a snorin' like a frog with snot up it's nose. I think I saw it in the barn. I'm gonna go look there." AJ replied as she trotted out of the kitchen with Applebloom behind her.
I chuckled with a twinkle of amusement in my eyes. Once again, they had lost something in my house, but it was alright. It would take them just a few minutes to find the item anyways.
"Found it!" AJ's voice cried from afar.
I grinned with light-hearted humor growing inside me more.
"Right on time." I whispered softly.
Suddenly, I heard the little filly creep back inside the room with a curious gaze in her eyes.
"Applejack, did you hear that?" She said as she looked around.
"Heard what, sugar cube?" Applejack questioned as she entered the room as well.
I smiled at their pondering faces. They seemed to have heard me, which was a good thing in my eyes since most ponies tend to ignore unexplained occurrences that were created from entities like me.
"You must of been hearing things, darlin'," Applejack said as she rubbed at Applebloom's mane playfully. "Come on, let me fix you something."
Once again a smile had been forged upon my face at hearing words like that. My guests were making food for each other again, but not just any food. The food that I had once tasted on my very lips when I was a child. I remember back when I would come home from school, I would come to this house to be greeted with the sweet aroma of fruit, but not just any fruit. Apples. Yes, I remember the days where my mother would cook apples in any way possible. Minced, baked, fried, and even candy apples if my grades were going good. Therefore, I watched in complete fascination as the one named "Applejack" brought out a fresh pile of apples and began slicing them for the one named "Applebloom".
"So, when are you going to tell Big Mac we found his yoke?" Applebloom spoke as she eyed at the apples Applejack was preparing.
"When he wakes up. I reckon in 'bout an hour or two. He was really exhausted yesterday after he was plowing in our fields." Applejack answered as she finished mincing the apples and placed a few in front of Applebloom.
"My fields, you mean." I whispered to myself.
I watched as Applebloom quickly turned her head to where I was sitting to find nothing but an empty chair, or so she thought was an empty chair.
"Applejack, did you hear that?" Applebloom questioned.
"Hear what?" Applejack questioned as she took a bite out of an apple.
A long pause commenced from the small little filly as she looked in my direction. A cheeky expression had fallen upon me. I shouldn't of made her so worried with that comment I made.
"Nothin'. It was nothin'." Applebloom said quietly as she returned to eating her apples.
I breathed a silent sigh of relief. It was now the time I had to leave, or leave this room to be exact. My mind had begun to drift to the curiosity of the rooms upstairs. Therefore, I began to follow soothingly. I felt at the steps as my ghostly hooves galloped upstairs. Strange as it may sound, I felt the stairs underneath me. Well, at least I knew what they felt like. I came up and down these stairs thousands of times. The very texture and feel of the wood was embedded into my ghostly soul.
I had finally reached the the second floor of my house. I looked around and noticed an two open doors near the end of the hallway. So, with curiosity getting the best of me, I galloped to the closest one near me and stared into the room to see one of my guests snoring like a cow. Although, this was not just any ordinary guests. It was the red one. The one that the others had called "Big Mac". They said that he was asleep, and he was. Though by the looks of it, it had seemed that he was oversleeping. This would be something that nopony would tolerate back in my day, especially the fact that they were slacking.
"Wake up, you old coot! You hear me?! Wake up! This is your…sister, Applejack!" I shouted loudly with my best impersonation of a Mare's voice.
I watched in amusement as Big Mac had shot up straight in the air and hopped out of bed with all four hooves planting themselves firmly on the floor.
"Eeyup." He cried frantically as he rushed out of the room and ran through me, causing chill bumps to form around his hooves as he sped quickly out of the room.
"That took care of things well." I whispered as I galloped out of Big Mac's room and headed straight to the other one.
Suddenly, I heard a strange voice in the room ahead of me. It sounded like that of a mare that I once shared many fond memories with. Quickly, I crept into the room and gazed in fascination at a green, old mare with a white mane who lied fast asleep in her bed. It was my daughter. I was elated to see my very own daughter. Even though I never got the chance to spend her old years with her since I had already passed on, and even though she has these weird folk in my house, she is the best daughter that a stallion or a mare could ask for. Silently, I crept even closer to her. I then quietly gazed down at her from above, and gave her a kiss on the cheek as a symbol of my parenthood. Even though the kiss was not actually real, it had meant a lot to me. Suddenly, the eyes of my daughter slowly flung open, and she stood in horror at seeing me.
"Peeping Tom! We got ourselves a peeping Tom!" She shouted.
I froze in horror at what I was hearing. How on earth could she see me?
"Eh, at least I taught you what to do when you see a peeping Tom. I'll be seein' ya later, sweetie." I smiled happily at my daughter as I disappeared into thin air.
"Who the hay was that?" She screamed wide-eyed.
"Granny, what's the matter?" Applejack questioned as she and Big Mac appeared in her doorway.
"I think I just saw…I think I just saw…a peeping Tom!," Granny replied with a huff. "This nightmare night is starting off with a rocky start this morning. What's next? A ghost?"
