The Daily Life of Vinyl Scratch

Previous ChapterNext Chapter

DJPon3. One of the most recognizable names in the music industry. She is a maniac, a total party animal who does whatever she wants on a Friday night with not a care in the world for Saturday morning. You have no idea how sick I am of hearing that.

You see, just because I'm a DJ and I like Dubstep and Electronic music I'm a rebel, a raver, and utterly irresponsible. To be honest, most of it is true. But to a certain extent, okay? My personality is often EXTREMELY exaggerated.

Anyways, I want you to know what it's really like for me.

There were many sounds, such as the fans cheering, the photos being snapped, and the people backstage instructing. They all fought for DJPon3's attention, but none stood the chance against the music she could feel flowing through her veins. Down her arms, through both hooves, and into her DJ setup. The music then soared into the air near the audience and through the wires connecting to her headset.

The electricity running through the wires felt much like the way her music was sent through her veins, playing music. It was as if she was part of a well-oiled machine.

Vinyl Scratch is an entirely different person. THIS, is DJPon3 to the core. The DJ so deeply connected to her music, which mesmerizes herself and others. The thing she enjoys more than anything.

But, unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.

DJPon3 checked her stop watch. The DJ never planned out what she would play, but she would also never walk into a performance completely blind. Most of the time, she would plan ahead basic mixes she would use. Still, most of it was unpredictable.

Anyways, she checked her stop watch. The reason she did this was that she would often keep her song going for too long. Seeing she had kept this up for over 7 minutes, she quieted down the music in a nice finish.

She yelled into the mic to the crowd before leaving the stage. "Thanks for coming, everybody! Stay awesome!" That was kind of her catchphrase. DJPon3 walked off the stage and signed a few autographs before trotting home. She was moderately famous, at least in the music industry.

Suddenly, this pony was not DJPon3 anymore, but rather Vinyl Scratch. So, Vinyl Scratch trotted home.

Vinyl was exhausted from the show. It was particularly long and there were more ponies that attended. Since she had about an hour before her late-night shift started, Vinyl took a short nap on her couch to avoid falling asleep right in the middle of pouring somepony's drink. At least it's late-night, there won't be as many people as there would be at her standard 9:00-11:00 shift, so she wouldn't need to work nearly as hard.

You see, although Vinyl was a very good DJ, it was not enough to earn a living. So, Vinyl was a bartender at a club she often DJ'ed. That club was like a second home to her.

Vinyl often flirts with ponies to get better tips. Vinyl would flirt with colts as well as mares. No, not because she's bi. No, not because she's a lesbian but won't admit it. No, not because she's crazy, either. In fact, Vinyl Scratch is very much straight.

The real reason is because many colts find her attractive, but naturally there are rumors about her being a lesbian. Vinyl just lets the rumors spread, because she honestly doesn't care. If someone bothers to ask her, she will tell them the honest truth, though.

She is thought to be lesbian because of sexuality stereotypes. Lesbians are supposed to be either more masculine than normal or more feminine that normal. Same could be said about gay colts. But while they do apply sometimes, these stereotypes are often incorrect.

Since Vinyl seems to fit the stereotypes, she is thought to be a lesbian, and that's that.

Most ponies feel negatively in one way or another about Vinyl flirting with any costumer that looks like they have money to spend. To that, Vinyl simply will say, "What's the problem? I get some extra money, and they feel happy because they are worth flirting with. We both benefit, and that's what matters."

That is the way Vinyl Scratch thinks. The consequences far are more important than the action itself. For example, white lies are considered okay by most ponies because it makes another pony feel happier, while lies in most other situations are considered bad. They are both lies, they simply have different consequences. Or how murdering an innocent citizen is a horrible thing to do, while executing a mass murderer is not.

It's the way everypony thinks, really. Vinyl is simply one of the few who understands it.

Somewhere in this deep, philosophical thinking, Vinyl fell asleep on her cozy little couch.

Some time later, Vinyl wakes up from her nap. Felling well-rested, she jumped from her couch and out the door, down the street and towards the club.

She checked her pocket mirror when she approached the building. After all, studies show that the prettier the employee, the more they get paid.

Vinyl walked into her booth, and looked around for somepony to flirt with. Ahah! A classy-looking mare with a beautiful, dark brown mane and cute pink bowtie. Perfect. She probably has money to burn!

She walked over to the mare. "What I can get a cute mare like you?"

The mare had been looking in a different direction, obviously deeply thinking.

Upon hearing Vinyl's words, she slightly jumped and turned her head towards Vinyl.

"Oh, I-I don't.... I mean, I've always preferred wine." The mare said with a Canterlot accent not thick enough to be hard to understand, but still be attractive. She was speaking very awkwardly and unnaturally, but Vinyl just found it adorable.

"So, nothing, then?" Vinyl asked, confused by the mare's stuttering.

The mare blushed, obviously embarrassed. "No."

"Then, may I ask why you are sitting at the bar?" Vinyl asked, trying her best to not to laugh.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you asking I move?" she asked, still blushing.

"No, it's perfectly fine. In fact, I like having you around." Vinyl asked, feeling drawn to the mysterious mare.

The mare smiled. "Thanks."

"You got a name?" Vinyl asked while drying a clean cup.

"Pardon?" The mare asked.

Vinyl sighed. "What's your name, miss?"

"Oh," The mare blushed more than she had the entire time she'd been talking to Vinyl. "My name is Octavia."

Author's Note

Woo! Finally got this chapter done. It took about a week to write it, working on it over an hour at least 5 of the days. I really wanted this one to be well thought out and a great introduction to Vinyl. Anyway, in the next chapter you'll be hearing more about Octavia's perspective on her and Vinyl's meeting, and the events leading up. It should be out around next Friday, but I really don't know. Hope you liked this chapter!
