Blood Legacy: Book 1: Darkness Rising

Destiny.

There are some ponies who believe, that our lives are guided along their path, by some strange, unseen force. A force that we cannot recognize or define with words, but it is there all the same, driving our lives from beginning to our inevitable end. There are some who believe that, there are those who have grander destines than others, and that they are destined to rise up and become hero’s, to conquer great adversaries and challenges. But if you were like me, when I was younger and more stubborn…then you would not believe in such a thing as fate or destiny.

But before I go too far into my life, allow me to explain, how I came to realize what I do now, and how my destiny, helped to shape a new age in Equestria. But before I get into that, let me tell you more about the world that I live in.

The Grand Empire of Equestria.

How you might ask, did the once small kingdom of Equestria, grow into a large Empire? The answer to that question, is a tricky one indeed. Well…if you ask me, it all started with a deal.

The deal between Lord Nocturne and Grey Sky.

Before you ask, allow me explain some things about our history. Lord Nocturne is a very powerful and ancient spirit that dwells in the pits of Tartarus, he was known to have frequently found ways to escape and travel to the mortal world above, to tempt unsuspecting mortals with pacts, that would give them power beyond imagining, but at the price that they sells their lives into servitude. On many occasions’ through Equestria’s history, Princess Celestia and Luna have defeated him, and returned him to his solitude.

It was only a matter of time, before they would fail to stop him.

As history tells it, Nocturne made a deal with a valiant, but greedy young Lieutenant in our army. The deal would be, that Grey Sky would be given unimaginable power, and control over Nocturne’s army of shadowy figures, known as Shade’s. But in return, Grey Sky would use his great power to conquer Equestria and the world, and become his servant. With Nocturne's guidance and leadership, Grey Sky initiated his plan of dominance.

The Princess’s watched helplessly as their kingdom fell around them, as none of Equestria’s soldiers, could best the might Grey Sky’s demonic army. In a final desperate defense of the capitol, Celestia and Luna sacrificed themselves to stop Grey Sky, in doing so, sealing Lord Nocturne in Tartarus for eternity but their sacrifice came to be in vain, as his army rolled across the land, punishing all those who stood in their way.

Soon…the neighboring kingdom’s of Maretonia and Saddle Arabia fell to their army as well. But Grey Sky did not stop there, a few decades after he had taken over the kingdom and cemented himself as the true ruler, the armies of Equestria swore their allegiance to him, and sent his armies across the Great Sea, towards the Gryphon’s homeland. But not just to the east, he sent his armies down south across our border, and right into the heart of the Dragon’s territory as well. With the element of surprise on their side, Grey Sky’s army quickly overtook their land under military occupation.

The war with the gryphons went on for nearly a century, but with the advantage of fighting on their terms, the Gryphon’s had managed to stop Grey Sky’s advances, to the point where the war had reached a temporary halt, and has been for many years after.

All hope seemed lost in our world, but there was a shining light of hope left in the world.

The Light Seeker’s.

The Light Seekers were a society of ponies, founded by Princess Twilight, whose sole duty was to study and unlock the infinite magical possibilities of all pony races. Not long after Grey Sky had conquered Equestria, Princess Twilight enlisted the Light Seeker’s in her quest to fight against Grey Sky. Years later, Princess Twilight mysteriously disappeared under strange circumstances, and the society of magical knowledge seeker’s, quickly found themselves outnumbered and forced into hiding. But they vowed to uphold their promise to the Princess of Magic, and have been fighting ever since.

After conquering Equestria and the surrounding lands, Grey Sky had himself crowned Emperor, and united the lands as one official Empire.

A little over 200 hundred years have passed since then.

My story begins in a small town in the far reaches of Equestria, where I found myself forced into a conflict I wanted nothing to do with. But It was there that I started the journey that changed my life forever, and helped me to realize the true meaning of destiny.
